flyinfishman 0 #1 April 4, 2005 Looking for opinions from those you that have used the pouch with skydiving and BASE PC's. Have you found it necessary to have the pouch resized for a 28-30" ZP or are you just packing the skydiving PC bulkier? thanks
leroydb 0 #2 April 4, 2005 try packing the pc inside out. by that I mean cock the PC but fold it mesh side up...Leroy ..I knew I was an unwanted baby when I saw my bath toys were a toaster and a radio...
KrisFlyZ 0 #3 April 5, 2005 I am going to steal Tonto's thunder and say 'Short and Fat is where its at" ask him for the details. He uses the BASE pouch on his S3. Kris.
Tonto 1 #4 April 5, 2005 I'm folding the pilot chute the same way I was taught to fold a Vector Tandem Drouge in 1992. I know that folding the PC with the bridal inside is frowned upon these days, but I've done so for well over 4000 dives with no incident and am reluctant to change to the unknown at this point. IMO the BASE PC Pouch was designed with longevity high on the design spec. I would far prefer a spandex pouch, as I have had the PC slip out on 2 occasions when running (yes, RUNNING) to get onto a load. I have experienced no negative traits to use of the BASE PC Pouch on any dives thus far but must point out that my experience is limited and I only have 100 dives with this configuration. While I favour "short and fat" I'm not sure if this holds any advantage in a non elasticated pouch. tIt's the year of the Pig.
LouDiamond 1 #5 April 5, 2005 QuoteWhile I favour "short and fat" I'm not sure if this holds any advantage in a non elasticated pouch. Agreed. You need to think "long and thin gets you in" with the BASE pouch otherwise you get what's called an impossi-pull. The BASE crowd calls this thin configuration a "dildo"."It's just skydiving..additional drama is not required" Some people dream about flying, I live my dream SKYMONKEY PUBLISHING
flyinfishman 0 #6 April 7, 2005 Used a new PC and base pouch today, the 30"ZP and 10' bridle was bulky enough to be secure when packed mushroom style. Not sure about the S3 base pouch, but the V1 is plenty elastic at the mouth. So much easier at pull time...fast.
Tonto 1 #7 April 7, 2005 Quote So much easier at pull time...fast. That's why I use it. None of the negatives just allows me to fly a bit harder for longer without having to build in "looking time" on every dive - just in case. tIt's the year of the Pig. hecy68 0 #8 April 18, 2005 iv bin jumping my flik with an old racer with a 36 pc and iv gone the short and fat on my s3 its like you need a 46 to fill up the pouch . / ??? hecy
kevin922 0 #9 April 18, 2005 There is one way to fold it here though I should update it because I actually use a different way, at step 8 i fold the bottom up to the top (towards the hackey) then fold the bridle.
douggie 0 #10 April 18, 2005 Wow! Birdman must have some variation in their construction. I can go any bigger than a 36" otherwise I would never be able to pull. I even have trouble with the 36" being very tight.

So do you have the bridle inside the package when you fold it? We saw a noticeable hesitation here (non-wingsuit) over the weekend that was likely caused by folding the PC that way with the bridle already S folded inside it. See Dead Jaap's Thread for more details. I'm hoping he'll get some pictures up and start a discussion about the PC pack when he gets home. I'm curious if we've come to opposite conclusions about the same PC pack job, but it's hard to tell without more photos (or even video) of the PC packing. Can you elaborate on your method? JaapSuter 0 #12 April 21, 2005 Here's a video of what I now call the Dead Jaap Pack. Not really related to wingsuiting, but we're talking pilotchutes, and maybe it's useful for somebody. For the record, this video display my thoughts on how not to pack a pilotchute. It doesn't show how to do it properly.
