TomAiello 26 #6 May 2, 2005 QuoteHi, I wanna get a GPS to get some hard data on glide-ratio etc when flying my suit. Which models did you try and what do you think works best? Thanks, Obi Etrex Vista has worked pretty good for me. It takes glide angle tracks and lets you download them into a PC. Be careful to set it to record as often as possible, and try to download the track immediately (rather than saving to the GPS memory) since it loses some data when you save it to the GPS memory. Have you looked at Flybirdman.com? I know that Kevin was doing some GPS stuff, so he might have some good info over there.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

TomAiello 26 #8 May 3, 2005 Quotewhere are you mounting it? helmet? visor? chest mount? I played around with several mounts (chest, leg, helmet, etc) and found that the GPS on the back of my head seemed to get the most consistent readings.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

veter_ 0 #11 May 4, 2005 Is it only in their catalog? Their website lists Vista (not Vista C) for @270 (Vista C is $400).
TomAiello 26 #12 May 4, 2005 QuoteIs it only in their catalog? Their website lists Vista (not Vista C) for @270 (Vista C is $400). Nope. It's their Anniversary Sale, so from May 6-15 you can get it in the store at that price. I'd guess that means you can get it on their web site at that price starting Friday.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com

kansasskydiver 0 #14 May 4, 2005 I bought the foretrex101. Haven't downloaded the info to my computer, but i like the functions it keeps track of, decent rate, horizontal glide, eta, max speed etc. it's small and was decently priced<--- See look, pink dolphins DO exist! veter_ 0 #15 May 4, 2005 How about accuracy? Is it enough to accurately determine glide ratio? Is Vista more accurate?

I like Oziexplorer, but there are lots of GPS software packages around. I think that one of the jump log software makers even has a GPS download package in beta--check the threads in this forum.-- Tom Aiello Tom@SnakeRiverBASE.com SnakeRiverBASE.com
