Here's a fun jump I did 2 weeks ago I did with a friend. I was flying the suit and Mark was on my back. These are screenshots from the video. I would post the video, but the cameraman wasn't wearing a wingsuit, so we quickly lost him after our little formation started flying. :-) And so there's not a lot of good footage. The plan was that the cameraman would be doing atmonauti on his back, and be able to keep up with us, but that wasn't really possible.

In the first few pictures we're still almost head down, but later it levels off and the formation really flies. My pro-track said something around 80 to 90 mph. It was stable too, we weren't rolling forward or anything. It got too overcast later and so we weren't able to get enough altitude to try the jump again that day.

Yeah, my posture wasn't that good, but I was concentrating more on keeping it level.

It was silly and we had a good laugh. So I wanted to share this crazy formation with you all.

Looks more like a canard (Burt Rutan)or tandem wing (Mignet flying flea).

Since I don't have enough jumps to jump a birdsuit myself, my hubby (Courteney) takes me with quite often (in the form of rodeo) It is SO MUCH FUN!!!! I am trying to "surf" on his back currently, but couldn't manage yet. Our last jump we tried an "upside down" rodeo...

Upside down rodeos are fucking cool. You don't even have to wrap your legs around the pilot, you can simply hand from the mudflaps or chest strap.

The the uninitiated:

Face off in "Mister Bill" fashion with the pilot poising and the passenger back to the wind in the door. Exit in "out-in-fly" fashion and simply cruise away. Your passenger can either wrap legs around your waist or hand underneath you; it's cool that way. They fly along underneath you and drop off when their grip fails or you get them safely back over top of the "normal" freefall cone.

Why is it that wingsuit flying is the one thing in the sport that still gets me going like a first jump student?? I look at these pics of the Atmonauti and the upside down rodeo and think how damn cool it would be to try that!!

Once I can get back to jumping full time as a weekend warrior I will be focusing on wingsuit flight.

How well does one of these 'hanging' rodeo's fly (compared to a 'normal' rodeo?).
What speed/distance are you getting?

How does it fly compared to a regular rodeo? It seems as though it might fly a lot better since you don't have an upright passenger screwing up the airflow over your back.

I have been the hanger and the pilot before. I was actually the hanger while jumping my own suit. It's tough on the arms to be the pilot (like any other rodeo), but it's definitely more stable than a regular rodeo; at least in my opinion.

Funny, we found the exact opposite... On the first few jumps we tried it we got into a weird oscillating motion that very quickly got so strong that the passenger simply had to let go. Sometimes the passenger started swinging left to right, on other times the passengers legs would start swinging up and down.

This may have been because the passenger wasn't simply hanging as inert weight; he was also trying to fly his body.

So. a word of warning to those wanting to try it out; make it just a two way on the first couple of times to see how it works out...

Well for one thing, if you did try something like that (both wearing wingsuits), the hanger would not be able to have his hands all the way over his head (unless he had a Prodigy maybe). But it is possible to fly linked exits, in more ways than one I'd imagine, although I don't think you could fly one just like the picture shown.

Yeah, I've seen that on some atmonauti DVD as well. A whole bunch of people doing atmonauti around someone in a birdman suit. It was so busy around the wingsuit that it wasn't really clear if there was someone sitting rodeo style on the birdman. But I'm guessing there had to be, to increase the fall rate of the birdman (or he was wearing lead).

This was actually what we had planned in our original dive. Combining atmonauti with birdman. Except that our formation flew too well, had too much lift for anyone without a wingsuit to keep up with. :-)

From what you've described, the footage you saw was not of this jump but a similar one.

G/Rod's jump (his 600th I think) was as planned-straight line dock with G on Rod.

I'll scan and post the photo tomorrow.
