Modifying a stock suit

Recommended Posts

I just got my large Phi yesterday ... the body fits pretty well, but the legs are maybe 2 inches too long (too long for thicker soled shoes to fix). I'm thinking I'll create a fold in the front of the bootie above the toe using a couple of rivets through the hems, then stitch the material.

Has anyone else modified their suit?

My first GTi was too short and I had a rigger take out the vertical strip that goes around your toe and replace it with a longer strip. The "Frankenstein bootie mod". Sounds like you are going to do the opposite... I almost suggested that to you before but wasn't sure how much shorter you could make it and still have the bootie fit over a shoe. Let me know how it works.

Thanks Tom
I am asking because this add in saw DZcom
the add was making some claims and I asked a friend of mine who has several hundred WS flights.
He said apparently they work and has heard some positive input on Extensions.

I sew and it would be very little effort on my part to make some Mods.I'm not trying to change the suit to a V-1 or S3s. I have been flying the GTi for a few years. I am just getting Greedy and just want to SQUEEZE just a little more out of Her.

For Sale: Classic & GTI Performance Wing Extensions

Price:

The ZP extensions can be easily be attached to the wing, of the GTI wingsuit or even the Classic wingsuit manufactured by BirdMan, by any sewing machine using nylon or heavy cotton thread or by your local rigger in less then 5 minutes. Testing the extensions has proven to greatly increase performance and maneuverability of the suits, as the extensions act as ailerons. An aileron works by changing the effective shape of the airfoil of the outer portion of the wing. By changing the angle of deflection at the rear of an airfoil or wing, this will change the amount of lift generated by the foil. With greater downward deflection, the lift will increase in the upward direction, and the roll will be faster along with easier recoverabilit

I don't think those Wing-Extensions by themselves would do to much for the performance enhancement.
.
So I thought about it for a while and decided to do more than that.
I added on the to the total Tail length. I took it all the way down to the floor with a Ridged but flexible leading and trailing edge.
I think adding a flat (non-inflatable) piece of material should make a significant difference, because the trailing edge would be flat. Thin trailing edge = faster horizontal speed = more lift. So I added on about 5 more inches in tail length. The stock GTi tail was kind cut real short also thick in shape.
Plus the wing extensions with grippers. I also put stiffeners in them to.
Kind of like little stall-tips with handles. The extensions with the Handles do force the wing to a better shape when I put the suit on and give them a pull. Much Better with Total Shape. It pulls the trailing edge of the wing stiffer
I will take it out this weekend a do a few hop and pops to check it out.

Let us know how that works out for you. I know greybeard added an additional cell to the leg wing of his suit some time ago and I believe it added some performance. Perhaps he can shed some light on it and maybe give you some feedback on his experiences.
