Zeemax 0 #1 October 25, 2005 So i was at the DZ the other day and had no birds to hang out with... flying on my own would surely have just been boring... good job there was an aircraft to play with. This video is my second and third go at flying with the aircraft. Sadly we ran out of daytime to try any more (the pilot and i think we know what to do now) and the weather has been shit since The aircraft is a Beaver (the black beaver as its known.. insert female genitalia gag here) and i'm flying my Bird Man S3s. the first thing you'll notice is its not great footage... I'm not a camera flyer by any means and i didn't have any kind of sight, so its all pretty much guess work... Secondly, this is the beer time i've ever tried to edit a video, again this will be why it looks so crappy... anyhow... find it here... http://homepage.mac.com/skydivemacca/iMovieTheater2.html let me know what you think Macca Phoenix Fly - High performance wingsuits for skydiving and BASE Performance Designs - Simply brilliant canopies
tr027 0 #2 October 26, 2005 2nd try was nice. Don't know what ground speed the plane was at, but looks faster than you were going. You might also try cutting the corner more. Nice demonstration was done by Tristan Whitmarsh in Jarno Cordia's video a while back."The evil of the world is made possible by nothing but the sanction you give it. KrisFlyZ 0 #3 October 26, 2005 So you won't even leave the flying Beavers alone . What are you doing up this late anyway...don't you have to work really early or something? Kris.

GeordieSkydiver 0 #5 October 26, 2005 Nice one Macca, I had a similar expierence with a Nomad at Peterlee. Unfortunately i wasn't wearing a camera (I know, it didn't happen ) Good job.Lee _______________________________ In a world full of people, only some want to fly, is that not crazy? http://www.ukskydiver.co.uk
Zeemax 0 #6 October 26, 2005 Thanks all... They weren't serious attempts, just a bit of fun on a sunday afternoon. I did go back to try for real and as i said, but the weather was shit Phoenix Fly - High performance wingsuits for skydiving and BASE Performance Designs - Simply brilliant canopies
piisfish 140 #7 October 26, 2005 did you brief a flightplan with the pilot ?? Would a right hand dive of the plane make it easier? Didi that with our Porter, so the pilot would always see us too...scissors beat paper, paper beat rock, rock beat wingsuit - KarlM
Zeemax 0 #8 October 26, 2005 we had a basic flight plan knowing that i wouldn't keep up with him (we have a much better one now, just need the weather)... In the beaver the pilot sits on the left, so the plan was stay behind and slightly to the left so he could see me. Fly in a straight line, then slowly carve to the left back towards the DZ. If there seemed like an issue of closeness etc, he would hard turn right, and i would turn left.Phoenix Fly - High performance wingsuits for skydiving and BASE Performance Designs - Simply brilliant canopies
mccordia 74 #9 October 26, 2005 if you cross 'behind' the airplane, keep in mind that there is a wake of turbulent air there. If the plane is in a REAALLLY steep dive and you are directly behind it, it could actualy mean that you crash onto the airplane, cameraman-meets-RW4-team style.. Do be carefull..:) I think Perry is also quite an authority on flying with planes, maybe he could enlighten us with some wisdom and do's and don'ts?JC FlyLikeBrick I'm an Athlete? Zeemax 0 #10 October 26, 2005 If the beaver is in a really steep dive it will easily match and even exceed regular free fall speeds... straight down. I love that aircraft Phoenix Fly - High performance wingsuits for skydiving and BASE Performance Designs - Simply brilliant canopies
Anvilbrother 0 #11 October 27, 2005 What is it's max airspeed rating for your "beaver". I think otters can dive and get up to about 140 knots before they have to bank out and slow down Postes r made from an iPad or iPhone. KrisFlyZ 0 #12 October 27, 2005 QuoteWhat is it's max airspeed rating for your "beaver". I think otters can dive and get up to about 140 knots before they have to bank out and slow down Is it really important what the max airspeed rating is? The challenge for the pilot seems like it would be to maintain a steep dive with a slow forward speed(for the plane). Kris.
Anvilbrother 0 #13 October 27, 2005 I am really thinking about the attempt that was made with a drougue attached to the plane to slow it down. If you can dive the plane at a fast speed you know you can catch it. Once you get that done you can slowly start having the plane trim the dive out and get more horizontal speed. Aww skrew it lol I cant really type what I mean. Postes r made from an iPad or iPhone. Spelling and gramhair mistakes guaranteed move along,
