handyploy 0 #1 October 13, 2003 hi i've bought a wings w 13-1 thats supposed to fit a 150sq/ft canopy though it's very thight. once the bag is in the harness, i'm almost unable to put a quarter loop to place the lines against the bottom of the harness. 2/3 is used by a swift 5-cell(size unknown) so that leaves a small space for my main canopy(pilot 150 aerodyne). Sizing chart for wings proves this is a correct size. Does anyone has tips for that problem or is it just a problem due to new material that has to strech? tobi778 0 #2 October 13, 2003 I cram a Vengeance 120 in a Wings W-7. It's tight but with careful packing it fits. Oh, I too am unable to rotate the bag, so I just leave it grommet up, no biggie. My rig seems a little easier to close now when it has ~100 jumps on it than when it was new, can't say if its because fabric streach though.
mr2mk1g 10 #3 October 13, 2003 the instructions for packing wings are clear that you can leave the D-bag grommet up when packing if you like. FIND OUT THE SIZE OF YOUR RESERVE!! I would never jump any piece of kit without knowing exactly what size of canopies I am jumping (and a hell of a lot else about it too for that matter.) You're a little unclear as to where the size prob is... it seems as though you are worried about the length of lines you have left over after making you D-bag stows. If this is the case and you find there is not enough line left over simply leave out the last stow on the D-bag. (Get another packer to confirm you can with your kit - dont just take my word for it.) So long as the mouth stows are made on the D-bag, the rest are just there to keep the lines tidy and dont change anything about how the canopy deploys. AggieDave 6 #4 October 13, 2003 I have a Wings W-13 with a PDr 176 and a Heatwave 170 in it. I've put 150s in it, no problem. I'm not sure what the varation of the W-13-1 is, though.--"When I die, may I be surrounded by scattered chrome and burning gasoline."
bkdice 0 #5 October 13, 2003 At my DZ, 4 people, including myself, have bought brand new Wings in the last 2 months. We are all happy with our containers, but all of them are sized a little small. We all gave specs of the canopies we wanted to put into our new containers, and it was still a very tight fit. I have 3 jumps on my new container, and packing it has been a nightmare. However, it seems that for the others who have had theirs for 20-60 jumps, the packing gets a bit easier once the material breaks in.
sammer 0 #6 October 13, 2003 I just got a new W-13 that was sized to fit my Hornet 190 main and PD176R. It is REALLY tight...but that's what I wanted. I'm not sure what the -1 part of the container size designation is, but it seems odd that it would be tight for a Pilot 150. I don't have any problem rotating the bag in mine. You should probably find out what kind of reserve you have and give Sunrise Rigging a call. -Sam
kitof1976 0 #7 October 13, 2003 It seems really odd that you have a problem fiting your 150 main in a W13-1 because I have a W9 and I fit a triathlon 150 in mine with not that much troubles. I also have a 150 reserve in it also.Sure it's a bit of a tight fit but it manageable. It became easier to pack after a few dozen jumps though. "We see the world just the way we are... Chrisky 0 #8 October 14, 2003 Just got my new one this weekend, W8-Ext with a Paratec Faqtor 120. I packed the main coming straight from the other d-bag, so there wasn't a lot of air in it and i still had to really work it... But that was the very f.. ahem, pre-second packjob on that D-bag.. Most of the stuff was still quite stiff and will take a few jumps to break in for sure. Apart from that, Great piece of equipment! And btw, nice pic bkdice! The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ... jrpayne 0 #9 October 14, 2003 Try psycho packing, I used to pack a airlocked 150 into my W-10-1. It got a little easier as the container got more broken in.
mr2mk1g 10 #10 October 15, 2003 HHAHAHAHA, you have NOOO issues. I just put my 190 into my W13 several times last night. Looks like I will be buying that 170 I demoed at the weekend.
plankton 0 #11 October 15, 2003 I have pilot 150 packed in Wings w13 and I think that it is a little loose. I would prefer to have W13-1 for the canopy. As I remember that Sinrise site had information that w13 is sized for ZP170 and w13-1 for ZP150.
