EXE canopy

Recommended Posts

Ok people, I've seen a couple of old threads on this canopy, but there's surely more info out there.

Im looking into buying an EXE170. I flew it at the weekend and it handled nice, (high winds though so couldn't put it through its paces). I'm looking for opinions from others who have put in a load of jumps on this canopy who are gonna know it intimately. My main frame of referance is a Sabre 190. I'll be back in a week to jump it again before I decide, but all opinions are welcome.

Good canopy / bad canopy?

Cheers

Hi,i put a little over 300jumps on a chuteshop SA ZP150 @1.4.[V.
Similar if not the same as the EXE]

1.Packs very easily like F111.

2.Quite reponsive to toggles, more so than a simiarly loaded Safire.

3.More ground hungry @ full drive.RE:Safire.

4.V.Short recovery arc.

5.Flare is progressive but nowhere near as powerful as a Safire.

6.To summerise,i enjoyed this canopy alot and it taught me alot!Somepeople have said this canopy is a SA"COPY"of a Sabre but ican't comment as i've never jumped a Sabre. However [re.safire comparison]overall i found the Safire to be more modern superior design to my'ZP'purely for things like glide and flare power.

N.B.Sorry about the comparison with the Safire, but it's the only other canopy ive jumped thats in the same CLASS.
.CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.

My wife owned a 170 before moving to a sabre2 after a year. She found that the ZP.exe 170 was nice and responsive, so much so that when she jumped a sabre 150 she felt it flew as responsively as her 170, with a higher decent rate.

She was very happy with it, and jumped it in a variety of conditions with no problems.

Overall a good canopy and I think you'll be happy with it, especially since it should be cheaper than buying a US canopy.

I had a ZP EXE 155. I did about 250 jumps on it in a 12 month period.

Nice canopy...

Packs very nicely - closer to F1-11 type fabric rather than the slippery PD type material

Apparently it has quite a steep glide angle - but I had nothing to reference it to.

You can fly it conservatively, straight in or you can give it some stick on front risers if that's your thing. But it does flatten out quite quickly (short recovery arc)

Openings are nice... I had the occasional twist - but that was probably my body position. I would recommend rolling the tail quite a few times to get a nice slow opening

I have a EXE170 and have put over 200 jumps on it in the last 6 months or so.

In my opinion its an excellent begginner/intermediate canopy and i can highly reccommend it. All of my openings have been nice and gentle bar one (which was my fault).

Backing up SpinDoctor's post it can be used conservatively, and responds well when using it more agressively. It wasnt long after graduating from AFF that i started using this canopy and i learnt a huge amount about canopy control from it, thankfully it is very forgiving as some of those lessons were learnt the hard way.

The only criticisms i have of this canopy is that the glide angle is very steep and there have been loads of occasions when i have not made it back from deep spots when others have (and yes i know how to use my rear risers:P!!). Also, the ZP material that chute shop uses to make these canopies seems to be of a poorer quality that that of other manufacturers. I bought my canopy new and after about 250 jumps the wear really shows compared to other canopies with the same amount of jumps.

If you are going to the BCPA freshers meet then you are more than welcome to come and pick my brains some more and have a few jumps on it (for a few beers ;) ) I have a bright orange one with black stabilisers (the canopy that is).

That's a common misconception. While the fabric feels like it's worn compared to the US based ZP it has the same life span so don't worry about it. If anything it makes it easier to pack :)

I'll be there, infact my car is already packed and my rig is sat behind me in the office (so it can't get nicked from the car park).

I'm there from tonight, you'll see me, im the one that looks like I've been doused in petrol and had a match tossed at me.

Thanks for all the responses guys, I think I'll be buying the canopy next weekend.
