Altimaster 3 problems.

Recommended Posts

My altimaster stops counting down fairly often. I have to whack it a couple times to get it to go back to the proper altitude. Are their any remedies for this? Or do I need to send it back to company for maintenance? Or am I screwed and need to buy a new one?

Altimeters are sensitve, fragile instruments, whacking them tends to throw them off and eventually cause them to stop working. I cringe when I see students/experienced jumpers clap, give each other high fives, etc with altimeters on.

Contact alti-2, they should hook you up.

I think I have had the same problem with my alti-3, and it's brand new. It really freaked me out, though. I looked at my alti, and I was at 11,000. Then i looked back about 3 seconds later, and I was still at 11k. Either I had stopped freefalling, or my alti had gotten stuck. Which one do you think it was? ;) But on the plane ride up, I noticed that the clouds were at 6k, and when I got to the clouds, my alti indicated 6k. Does anyone know why this happened? Thanks!

Alti will fix it!
They are very small and sensative movements in that instrument. Partical infiltration and corrosion from moisture can cause many problems. Home remedy repairs or the use of lubricants and cleaners also create more problems.
Alti has their own ulrasonic cleaning solution an aircraft quality test station and ready to install parts. Let them rehab it! Don't wait until you are cruzin thru you hard deck with a frozen needle.
Let them do it up for you right so you can be boasting about their great customer service .
