New video online (long flights and porter-chasing)

Recommended Posts

I just uploaded a new video.
Some experiments in camerawork, a few funky flybys and lots of long flights and fun playing in the air. Check it out! (and take special notice of the wonderfull barrelroll-to-inverted-rodeo technique Costyn invented!:P)

Very nice work Jarno! I'm all hyper again from seeing all the footage of those cool jumps. That was a lot of fun.

Zeemax, the video's look different because Jarno is not using a wide angle these days. Makes for some cool looking footage.

I finally got round to uploading the complete video of the flight Jarno and I made out to sea in April. There were pieces included in the above linked video, but I had GPS data on this jump as well, which I overlayed onto the video. Thought you guys might enjoy it.

Here ya go:

Thats nice Costyn.......how many IT degree's does it take to be able to lay the flight data over the video?;)
Is it pretty easy??

Hehe yeah it's pretty easy, especially if you have some experience with mucking about with video files. And with all my IT degrees I already did the hard part, calculating lots of statistics from 2 coordinates and an elevation. :P

The tool I use to convert from GPX to SRT (subtitle files) I put online here. The instructions for multiplexing it with video data are there too.

However, during testing with some different GPX tools, I encountered some bugs. The tool is not that robust yet. Unfortunately I do not have that much time at the moment to thoroughly debug and test it. Any other people with Perl programming experience out there?

Cheers,

Costyn.

Not too bad, Paralog makes it so you only have to have graduated from high school to make it work:D

I wasnt even joking...I remember watching Costyn at yours J...doing some of this and thinking he was coming uP/programming with some new formula for glo white toothpaste....

Is it easy for us... erm 'write your own program in xxxcode' idiots....or is it easily picked up via paralog ( which I am getting )

Uncle Charlie......just the mere mention of 'Photoshop' and 'Frames' is making my left eye and right ear twitch uncontrollably at the mo....far too much time on Premiere Pro over the last week....I even started to stroke my PC last night to make it render a bit faster.....that was a clear warning to STOP ..lol:S

Well, since you have already figured out Premiere and Photoshop and things like that (which are pretty damn complicated), this shouldn't be too hard for you; no programming required, I promise. :)
1. A program to download GPS data from the unit and write it out in GPX format GPSBabel does this.
2. A program to convert GPX data to subtitle files (SRT files); this is what I wrote with my gpx-to-srt script (anyone can use this script on this website! It's free! You don't need to download anything, the script resides on the webserver).
3. A program to encode the subtitles into the video stream. This is something VirtualDub can do.

These tools are all free and open source, and my weapons of choice. :)

Well I must say your dedication to making good videos shows, Darren. They are all excellent.

Cheers,
