How could this happen - broken wingsuit

Recommended Posts

We have two demo Birdman GTI wingsuits in our dropzone. On guy was regularly renting it and after jump he saw the suit, near left leg is shreded right by the seam.

We were thinking but couldn't think of sure reason how could this happen. The suit for this guy fitted perfectly not tight, no too wide.
Maybe while sitting in airplane with closed and zipped wingsuit little before exit?
Maybe in opening?
Maybe the suit already has a small defect in that place?
Has anyone experienced the same problem?

I guess it's not hard to fix this thing, but unfortunately we have no reserve materials for fixing, so maybe best idea is to send it back ir for repair? but on the other hand i am afraid it can take long time, and summer is going to end and we want to fly these last weekends ....

I had (minor compared to you, but quite identical) damage like that on my s3, from when I was learning to backfly.

The legwing flapped so much on my back (as I could fly it fully tensed) and the flapping started tearing into the suit after a dozen or so jumps..

It could be that, or people rented the suit, who didnt properly fit it.
And started tearing the seems when sitting down in the airplane..?

If you email birdman they'll gladly repair it for you, or send you a patch of fabric.

But any rigger will be able to fix this for you in 5 minutes...most of then have the material in their shop..

Strange. When I was learning I had some damage very similar to that happen on the GTI I was using. Just showed up out of the blue during pre-flight inspection.
