BillyVance 34 #1 July 23, 2007 I just made my first wingsuit jumps yesterday and they rocked! I really don't know much of anything about wingsuits except how to hook them up with the rig, and the 2nd and 3rd jumps were really smooth. I was using a Phantom. The distance I covered on the last two jumps were ridiculous! Talking with locals and using the DZ picture, they're saying maybe a mile and a half. So what kind of wingsuit is the Phantom, compared with others? Any sources I can go to to read up on them? jakee 1,500 #2 July 23, 2007 The FAQ at the top of the forum contains a list of current wingsuit manufacturers and their websites. The Phantom is what most people would describe as an intermediate suit, in a similar category to the Phoenix-Fly Acro, Bird-Man Firebird and possibly the S-Fly Expert in terms of ease of use. There are bigger, more high performance wingsuits out there (PF Ghost and Vampire, BM S6 and Blade, Tony Suits Mach1 etc) but IMO you will get much better much more quickly by sticking with an intermediate category suit for a good chunk of jumps. Generally speaking they are more stable, less tiring, easy to use in most flocks and still offer huge maxed out performance once you really learn how to fly them. From personal experience I would say that the Phantom is an absolutely excellent suit and you would not go wrong by getting one, but of course demoing a few different suits before making a decision would be the best way to go.Do you want to have an ideagasm? monkycndo 0 #3 July 23, 2007 I agree with Jakee on sticking with the intermediate suit. And I just so happen to have my Phantom listed in the Classified section. 50 donations so far. Give it a try. You know you want to spank it Jump an Infinity
BillyVance 34 #4 July 23, 2007 Damn... I had no idea that wingsuits were that expensive. I had figured maybe $400-500, not $800 and up. But hey, it makes sense in how complicated the suits are compared to standard RW suits. So I've got a choice... keep my Lightning-equipped CRW dedicated rig... or sell it to get a wingsuit... I think it's a pretty easy choice... The CRW rig has sat for more than a year unused as I really have no one close by to do dedicated CRW with, whereas with a wingsuit, I can go anytime, anywhere. We'll see where I go with this... monkycndo 0 #5 July 23, 2007 Now that you have truly flown the nylon, you'll start doing the Wingsuiter's CaaCaw verses the CReW Dog woof.
skyshimas 0 #6 July 23, 2007 I just flew the wing suit for the first time yesterday-it was awesome! it was bird-man GTi. I looked up their website and they say that GTi is intermediate or advaned suit and firebird good for beginners. but from the pictures it seems that firebird has bigger wings? Also it looks like phantom(phoenix-fly) would be a nice siut to learn and advance in wing suit flying and eagle from tonny suits. The guy who I flew with said I did realy good my neptune showed 58mph at the lowest fall rate
jakee 1,500 #7 July 23, 2007 The Firebird is kinda the evolution of the GTI. It has more performance but is also easier to fly.Do you want to have an ideagasm?
VectorBoy 0 #8 July 23, 2007 So I've got a choice... keep my Lightning-equipped CRW dedicated rig... or sell it to get a wingsuit... ... Simple, keep the CReW rig and get a used cheap 7 cell for it-= Pd160, triathalon, cheap reserve ( unless you have a sport rig suitable for WS now) and then get a second hand WS from the classified.
