We're on TV (or 'did we really do that?')

For a new dutch science show, which is basicaly a straight copy of Brainiac, with a tiny bit of wannabe 'stuntjunkies' thrown in (and the whole thing done in a bad way) we, through www.flylikebrick.com, where asked to do an item on wingsuits.

At first they where expecting/hoping to have the showhost do a 5 minute briefing, and jump a wingsuit, but that somehow didnt seem like too bright an idea.
So we cam up with the idea of having the showhost do a tandem, and having us three (Alex, Costyn and Alejandro) doing a flyby past the tandem.

We filmed a lot of material, talking about wingsuits and how the work (in whuffo terms) and then did a lot of filming on the prep work for a tandemflyby.

Then the weather turned bad, so we didnt get to jump, and we set a second date. We got our new suits just before that, and alex sadly had to work (which explains why its only Costyn and me flying, and we're suddenly wearing different suits)

The tandem had a bellycamera. And we had a cameraflyer filming the tandem, and flying behind him under canopy after opening.

The whole thing went pretty well, and we got some really sweet shots of the flyby (more of a diveby, picked a bit too steep an angle)

If you check my company showreel (X sport registration & events) at www.airrebels.com you can see bits of the actual flyby.
Especialy the sound recorded on the bellycam from the showhost was amazing. A big Wooshh (along with a girlish scream)

Then passed quite a few months where we didnt hear anything.

Then, the airdate of the first episode was finaly there, and we rushed to buy a TV guide.

And to our surprise, there is an interview with the showhost (who did a TANDEM) where he talks on and on about his WINGSUITJUMP and how he flew for two minutes, and how he was really flying with us 'the birdman'

But we figured it was just big talk, and the show would show him doing a normal tandem, and us the flyby.

So the show aired tonight, and to our surprise, the flyby was hardly visable. And what did they do?
Mixed the wingsuit stuff and the tandem. And yup. The guy flew with us birdman? intercutting footage of me backflying 'underneath the tandem' with shots from his bellycamera. Even though we exited roughly a minute after him, and where never actually close in freefall.

So there it is...we fly with tandems in freefall for two minutes...woohoo! hehehe

The only nice thing is the explanation of a wingsuit and what it does, which they left intact. But man...you do a nice stunt, and just to make the showhost look cool, they completely edit it out, and turn the actual jump into something completely rediculous..

It was to be expected. But hey...we're on TV

Got to hand it to their editors though. To a wuffo audience, it would appear the host did "fly" with you guys. Perhaps they were paid off by EG to prep us all for the upcoming Tandus....
