Audible/logbook for wing suits.

Recommended Posts

Guys,

My ProTrack doesn't log flight over 2 minutes, by design.
I needed Audible/logbook and got last week Neptune2. Out of 5 jumps it logged wrong 4 (openings after 10 seconds out of the door or started logging at 4K feet and etc.) It seems that modest flare in flight trick it to canopy opening.
Jenn from Alti2 was honest that Neptune2 wasn't designed for wing suits.
FYI I have v2, average flight from 13 to 4k about 2:20. I'm working on body position for longest time.

What do you use to log time? Are there any Audible/logbook on the market that would work with wing suits?

Thanks,
Vlad

Ive been flying the AltiTrack from L&B, and out of the +- 300 wingsuit jumps I have on the unit now, only one had a log that 'broke'. But that single one aside, its always logged, down to even the most extreme dive/flares and low speeds.

If you also have the unit log your canopy flight, you can even get a speed full-readout when the unit is triggered into thinking you pulled.

Out of the fallrate loggers Ive used, its the one I like most (esp. with the easy to read analog display)

There are quite a few threads on this same question/subject, so do a search if you want to read more..

I too, use an Altitrack and *most* of the time it works. I've had around 30 out of 300 jumps "break" but it might be due to the high speed of the King. It frequently thinks I deploy at 10K. I've tried almost everything. I also had no problems with it in my Blade, but the Mach1 seems to have probs.
Neptune 2 does the same thing; I have on in my helmet along with an Optima for audible only.

Waiting patiently (or not so patiently) for the N3 that was due out last month or so. Hoping it's better.

Interesting.....

Such an excellent self distraction from work; time for a "study break"...

Looked at my Altimater Neptune 2 box; says version 2.6.1 on the box label. I have not downloaded any of the latest maintenance utilities; TOO LAZY to hook up the computer IR port. No Paralog either; I just copy the data into my logbook at the end of the day.

I did notice a few weeks ago a "broke" jump; but did not think anything of it until DSE's comments to your post. I fly a Blade and SM1 so I will keep an eye out for this. I fly my Neptune on my hand out in the airstream for good data and have an Optima in my helmet for an audible.

Other than that I have had great success with my Neptune 2. I'm going to be "on alert" for a "broke jump" so if I see it I can think back to what happened on the jump that might have caused it.

Not sure if the comment from the Altimaster rep is a "well qualified statement". I would like to hear a detailed and technical explanation into why its "not meant for wingsuits". Just because somebody at the factory says something doesn't make it a hard fact. How much does she know about the product; technically? I'm curious for the explanation.

If Neptune 2 wasn't meant for wingsuits then why do I get consistent speed readings for 12k, 9k, 6k, 3K, an average, and good times past 2 and 1/2 minutes. Other wingsuiters have posted 3 minutes or even more from high altitude. Works for them.....I don't buy her comment "wasn't meant for wingsuits". If it wasn't meant for wingsuits the logic folllows that I would never get any consistent data at all. But I guess it is possible for a wingsuit flight to "trick" whatever makes a Neptune work.

I had great success with a ProTrack when I was flying a Firebird but kept "peggin out" the ProTrack at 99seconds; so I gave the ProTrack to my wife.

I shall now pop an Adderall and get back to work!

I have to agree with you as I and a few other wingsuit pilots worked with Alti-2 about 2-3 years ago(before Jen was working at Alti-2) to specifically address the Neptune showing a deployment on wingsuit flights. In an older version of the software there was actually a Birdman setting you could choose in the menu. The current Neptune is not as susceptible to showing a deployment as it used to be when it first came out. That is not to say that it doesn't on occasion show a deployment but it is a lot less common than it used to be. However, every data logger on the market has at one time or another mistaken a Wingsuit flight as a deployment, some brands more than others.

I'm running the latest software on my Neptune and am still experiencing more than occasional problems. [:/] Oh well, it works great as a visual altimeter.
