lurch 0 #7 October 21, 2008 Gotta love it... last possible moment, my ass... Still, this is, what, 3 or 4 times now at least, our home DZ winds up in the globe and at least 2 or 3 of those were feature articles about the flock... I had my own feature article a couple years back from when I was the only one around, we got clips from articles on the whole flock once we had one on the walls from last year and the year before, and now this one with rock solid flocks. And not one use of the phrase "death defying" anywhere in it... journalism is improving. Not bad guys! Tweet! -BLive and learn... or die, and teach by example. Skwrl 56 #8 October 21, 2008 Well, Lurch, in defense of the journalist on this one, you do tend to deploy at the last possible moment. (Yes, I know, not as low as some, but...) We've gone from 'half a guy' in Utah to a fairly consistent group of 6-7 a weekend, and once in a while, there are more. We're a King DZ. Advice? Avoid the political bullshit as much as possible. Have a lot of fun and let others see you having it. Develop a skill set that everyone can participate in. Don't get caught up in "I started this, you didn't" or other grand-stand plays. Just have fun. Smile a lot. Help others to see what wingsuiting is all about. If that fails, offer reach-arounds and free beer. And sponsor a "purple" day. Be sure a lot of cameras are there. Your flock will increase.
PhoenixRising 0 #13 October 21, 2008 ya, Dont give up. Wingsuiting is easy and Safe. Most people dont see that yet. Get some people trained and as they grow into it, they spread the love, before you know it there is a tight knit group. The scene At pepperell is because There are a Great group of guys and gals and we fly together all the time. If you want we can set up a date for me to come out next summer and train some people. Ill even leave some demos after to entice people to use them. howardwhite 6 #17 October 21, 2008 Well, now I have the paper in hand. On top of Page One, there's a picture of a smiling Rick Hough, looking at the camera. DSE 5 #18 October 21, 2008 Check out the "could use some feedback" thread from Flock University. Download the document. Start working on relative work. Just learning to fly in very close proximity at relative rates will improve your skills VERY quickly, IMO. Everyone can work on that. Maybe put up a four-way team. Fly to Utah for the first Wingsuit Relative Work competition in July of 09.
Butters 0 #19 October 21, 2008 I'm talking about getting people into wingsuits while you're talking about people with wingsuits. The people with wingsuits here are already working on relative work. DSE 5 #21 October 21, 2008 to get people INTO wingsuits, find a suitable instructor in your area. IMO, having a guy that wingsuits occasionally isn't the answer to getting people instructed. I went that route the first time around and decided wingsuiting wasn't for me until Campos convinced me to try it again. If you can get a few people lined up, it might be worth it for one of the manufacturers to send a rep to your area to do a number of FFC's in one shot. Getting demo suits likely isn't a difficult thing to do if there is a qualified person to put people in them and instruct them on first-flight. I get to WI a lot...maybe you could make it easy for me to come to you?
