FreeflyIndian 0 #1 May 1, 2009 Hello I'm a new wingsuiter and currently flying an old Birdman Classic. I'm 1.7m tall and weigh about 72kg. What vertical speed should I be working towards or averaging? Thanks
Deniq 0 #2 May 2, 2009 BM Classic is good wingsuit for beginners, with appropriate flight qualities. Just for start. Generally for state-of-the-art wingsuit-flying, you must split between solo jumps and flocks: For solo jumps: If you fly for the maximum time (minimal vertical speed), the actually vertical speed for top pilots is about 40-50 kmh. If you fly for distance, the sinking speed is more, about 70-100 kmh. For flocks: dependent on participant skills and his wingsuits about 90-120 kmh. KrisFlyZ 0 #3 May 2, 2009 Simply chasing after the slowest average fall rate will only cultivate bad flying habits. Learn all flight modes between trying to get the slowest fall rate to spending a segment of the flight trying to fly to some place. It is just like making a turn, think about it(I want to go there) and the rest of the stuff is intuitive. Anything close to 50mph is a good. I don't know who these top pilots are but no one of your height and weight has flown 32mph average(from 13k to 3k) in a classic suit.

Re-read what he wrote, carefully.... The only sure way to survive a canopy collision is not to have one.
