Worldwide Wingsuit Performance Competition launched

Recommended Posts

A note from Klaus..........

Worldwide Wingsuit Performance Competition launched!!!!!

Four years ago, in 2006, Mirko Schmidt initiated a
performance oriented wingsuit competition in Gransee, Germany which was held

for the last three years with international participants.

Modelled after an existing FAI class, the main intention for this
competition was to give performance oriented wingsuit pilots a common ground
to prove themselves in three possible performance classes for a
wingsuit - time, distance and speed - and to find the best overall pilot
while fostering knowledge transfer and further development of wingsuit
technology and flying skills.

This years event in Germany is sanctioned by the DFV (German Parachute
Association) as a German Championship. At the same time, other well known
characters from the wingsuit circus (Justin Shorb, Tony Uragallo, Jarno
Cordia and James "Macca" Macdonald) have been active to hold events following the
same rules all over the world.

Events in Germany (Gransee) and the US (Jumptown, Orange Massachusetts) are already confirmed for Sep. 17.-19., while events in the Netherlands, the UK and Eastern Europe are being planned.

We are currently working on Sponsors and Prize money for each event. Stay tuned and follow this thread and the Paralog website for final details.

Details on the different competitions will follow in due time. In the
meantime, please see http://www.wingsuitcompetition.com/ppc/ for detailed

"I for one am REALLY excited about hosting the Performance Competition for the United States! Giving the U.S. flyers a chance to compete against others in the world and their peers can only further our sport."

Hi there, first my congratulations to this worldwide plans.

It's interesting to see you guys try to find out, who's the best wingsuit pilot in the world. But I doubt, or better I know it doesn't work :o
Already two years ago there were lots of complications with the measurements about the diffrerent circumstances at different dropzones.

All the discussions about wind directions, wind speed, thermal, wingload in ws, dive- and hangexits, temperature, etc.
It will never work to give everybody the feeling, that the result is fair.

Here at this point, it's easy to be excited to find the world's best wingsuit pilot, but it's also easy to see the discussions in the future already.

It will be a great plan to compare the results and I'm sure with the right software and the knowledge, like you find in Paralog, you got the best option to get results for
"...to give performance oriented wingsuit pilots a common ground
to prove themselves in three possible performance classes for a
wingsuit - time, distance and speed
while fostering knowledge transfer and further development of wingsuit
technology and flying skills"

But it will never work to find the best overall pilot

That probably only works at the same dz, at the same time, at the same competition.

That's the reason, why SkyJester's Wings over Marl is happy to share the results, but will not take part in the German Championship/ rules.

Our philosophy was always to put the competitors first, treat them fair and make them happy :)
Thanks
Christian

don´t pester the jester . . or better: WHY SO SERIOUS ? ?
