Qstarz BT-Q1300s

Recommended Posts

Aside from being/looking like a keychain, it does well. It's so small/thin that you can use a piece of Gaffers tape over it to mount it to a helmet. Keep in mind that it can only LOG at 1Hz( receive 5 Hz update rate only; logging only 1 Hz maximum). The battery runs down/out anywhere from 10-12 hours.

You mean recieving and logging @1hz?

What about al this other stuff: http://www.paralog.net/using-gps.html ?

Paralog uses the gpsbabel library to talk to GPS units. gpsbabel supports the Qstarz BT1300s so it works with Paralog too.

Or did you mean the GPS units mentioned on the Paralog page? The Qstars unit is definitely the most recent unit. The ForeTrex and Wintec's work ok, but the Qstarz is smaller (the same size as a dytter), more sensitive (faster GPS aquisition) and has more logging space.

Jarno (mccordia) and I both use the Qstarz BT1300s. It works great and will log at 1Hz.

Cheers,

Costyn

I dont have problems connecting it to Paralog.

I made a test jump (ws base) past weekend and somehow the altitude readings are wrong (unit recorded level flight) for the WS part.

Can you explain how you set up this unit in relation to recomendations on the paralog site (SBAS, WAAS,...) ?
Did you set it to 5Hz reading and 1Hz logging?

Thanks!

Bor

Hmm that's weird... you did have a good GPS satellite acquisition?

I've been trying to get into the setup program (QTravel) to check the settings, but it's asking me for a product key I didn't know I needed. I've emailed Qstarz about it, waiting for a reply. It's been a while since I set it up, so I can't tell you what the current settings are. I'll let you know once I do.

You can see the settings and configure MTK loggers using BT747 (freeware).

NICE! Thanks for that! B|

I see that I've set my settings to log every 1 meter. That way I can use it both for skydiving and for geotagging my photo's without having to go in and change the settings.

In reply to bor's question: it doesn't look like I'm using any special settings. See the screenshot from BT747 for the settings I'm using.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,

Costyn.

Thank you, but Im still having troubles. I made another jump on a different site with settings you posted and I get same problem with recorded height.

Could you post a screenshot of your settings in other tabs (Output settings, Filters, advanced sett.) in BT747?

I got the BT-Q1000EX, pretty accurate logging, but the software that comes with it is a pile of crap.
And there is not really a good way to mount it, apart from duck tape.

I bought it because Jarno told me it would be fun to log my jumps, but so far I found it all but enjoyable.. ;) I see a freaking line on google maps that tells me where I have been, but that I already know... I was there when I made the jump, so yeeeeehh awesome, but it has little to no value to me... so if anyone wants a BT-Q1000EX ;) I got one available for cheap...

I might be a MOAB, or otherwise I'll bring it to some other boogie.
