Butters 0 #102 May 25, 2011 QuoteRe-read post #12. Butters' statement was: "Smaller suits also cause less disruption to the air flow around them, making it easier for others." Nothing there about weight or fall rate, just suit size. The statement is factually incorrect as it stands. Does a smaller suit weigh less than a larger suit? Yes. So weight was implied. Does fall rate change whether a lighter object has more disruption than a heavier object? No. So fall rate doesn't matter. Keep grasping at straws ..."That looks dangerous." Butters 0 #103 May 25, 2011 Quote Quote Quote Quote Quote A jumper + equipment with mass m (say, 80kg) falling at a steady fall rate v (say 40m/sec) is using up gravitation potential energy at a rate mgv (= 80*9.81*40) = 31,392 J/sec. or 31.4kW, which ends up as atmospheric disturbance. The size if his or her suit doesn't affect the answer. If you want to be specific than go weigh a T-Bird and an S-Bird ... do they weigh the same? No. The size of his or her suit does affect the answer. PS: Now add a weight belt. Grasping at straws now? Are you asking yourself? After all, I've been right from the beginning ... a larger suit causes more disturbance, a larger suit with a weight belt causes more disturbance, and a larger suit has a larger area of disturbance. Having trouble admitting you're wrong now? "Smaller suits also cause less disruption to the air flow around them, making it easier for others." is NOT in agreement with the fundamental conservation laws of physics, for reasons already explained. From a theoretical standpoint, a larger suit will weigh more than a smaller suit and thus a larger suit will cause more disruption in accordance with the fundamental conservation laws of physics. From a practical standpoint, a larger suit flown inefficiently produces more disruption over a larger area than a smaller suit flown efficiently."That looks dangerous." Nothing there about weight or fall rate, just suit size. The statement is factually incorrect as it stands. Agreed. Now you re-read post #26. What Butters said in that was 100% accurate. Your larger suit (with added weight - a necessary condition added by you in the same post) causes more turbulence (from the weight) and more turbulence to those around you (i.e. a larger field of turbulent air) (from the size). And you responded with a pejorative "nonsense." Whether he understood physics or not, he was right.www.WingsuitPhotos.com

Bones 0 #107 May 25, 2011 I recall a similar, but less heated thread involving Yuri_Base a couple of years ago. Jarno-didn't you come up with an "appropriate" graphic that helped to clear things up?
Plover 0 #108 May 24, 2013 Once again the moderators here have chosen to delete a bunch of perfectly innocent messages. So now it's time for some payback once again. Tsk tsk. It's too bad they continue this program of self-induced punishment. It would be so easy if they just left those innocent messages alone, and public. But, when they fucka wit me, I fucka wit them. So here we go again.
