Probably the same way that we get criminals to follow the rules about drunk driving. And murder. And speeding. And robbery. Wendy P.
-
Of course, this could also apply to active or retired police officers, and the business of policing...

Personally, I miss the late 0’s to the mid-teens the most. It was more diverse, and most of the people, with some noticeable exceptions, had points that that wanted to make other than “lib bad/conservative good” or vice versa Wendy P.

So you're disagreeing with the concept of college requiring some competency in the English language? Or just with the concept of Kallend actually having authority? Wendy P.

Isn't prevention cheaper than curing? Especially a "cure" like incarceration, which leaves people without job options? Wendy P.

A. By “not really” I meant not really appropriate. I’m sorry I didn’t make that clear B. I took out the color identifier deliberately. People of all colors and ages live in trailers; sometimes it’s a practicality issue, sometimes it’s a cost issue. In rural America, trailers are often where the poor people live. Wendy P.

That’s scary there. Anyone who thinks they’re destroying in God’s name is scary Wendy P.

Not really, but I was quoting Wendy P.

To be fair, most “trailer trash” come from backgrounds that are disadvantaged, too Wendy P.

Ah — equal protection. Frankly, I hate that. Laws should be laws, and discretion shouldn’t only apply to people just like you. Situational, not personal Wendy P.

How about between poverty and single mother households? And maybe even with criminality and violence. Wendy P.

Well, got me! Wendy P.

The only church I really felt like a part of had about 40 people. They got together to worship and discuss with each other, in a way that they thought would be welcoming. It wasn't everyone's cup of tea, but it served our community. Until the minister had an affair with a parishioner... 40 members just isn't enough to sustain that. Big isn't always better, but neither is small. Wendy P.

Move on. And, consider that maybe putting two and two together doesn't always mean the answer is four, because it's not really just two and two -- we interpret facts and turn them into stories that make sense to us. It's on us to get enough facts to figure out the difference between our comfortable story and what actually happened. Wendy P.

I think he's talking about the supposed victim, not the fact of the fire (which is truly horrific). Current speculation is that she was homeless, but information hasn't been released because family hasn't been notified, and that's probably because of a combination of the condition of the body and lack of ID. Lack of ID, along with the fact that she was apparently wearing multiple layers of clothing (witnesses), indicates that she might have been homeless. And no one deserves to be set on fire. Wendy P.

And how do you propose to get those urban people to relocate to rural areas -- without changing the rural areas (do you think your town or city would change if it were to grow by 500%?, which would still be less than making all of the cities the same size as the rural areas). Crowding people makes some things change. The whole thing about being rural is that your actions don't impose on anyone else -- because they're farther away, not because they're so much less offensive. You can shoot your gun at cans on the back fence if you live a mile away from anyone else. It's harder in a suburb, and harder yet in a city. You can speed pretty egregiously on rural roads, and race others. Try that in a city and you're killing a whole lot more people -- because there are people already there. You can play music as loud as you want, and have the wildest party ever, without impacting your neighbors. You have to be more polite in a city. Assholes (and they're all over) can be assholes in the country -- their impact is oversize in a city Wendy P.

What makes you think that it's the physical area that matters, and not the people? Urban areas make up 3% of the land area, and 80% of the people (Census data). What do the rural areas lack that all those people don't move there? How can we fix the rural people to make them more welcoming (see what I did there?) Wendy P.
-
And, again -- is that because cities are evil, because cities are crowded and generally have a concentration of poverty in certain areas, or is it only because cities are run by Democrats? And why do cities exist in the first place? Could it be because there aren't enough opportunities for people in rural America, and at least in a city your social network is physically closer? Poor people are generally far more dependent on their social network. We have too many people to have them all be rural without some huge, way-over-the-top, mandate. What do you propose doing with all those people? Wendy P.

I also speak from a position of experience. And I'm not about to say that some city, somewhere, isn't going to go too far. I'm also going to say that it's no worse than some city, somewhere, saying that every adult HAS to own a gun (Kennesaw, GA). If you don't like it, leave. Wendy P.

I went to my brother's, and celebrated with his family, along with that of my other brother (staying with us) -- son, daughter-in-law, her parents (all from India), along with his daughter and ex-wife, and the ex-wife's boyfriend. One big happy family; we had homedade Swedish sausage, a vegetarian alternative assembled in cornhusks, Brazilian homily pudding, Indian and Swedish sweets, and a lot of family fun and conversation. It was the Indian parents' first time ever seeing snow. Wendy P.

That’s what debate is about. Just because you heard it and believe it doest’t make it true, and just because I counter it make it false. And vice versa. Wendy P.

Do you have any sources for that last one? Because I doubt it Wendy P.

If you celebrate the holidays, I hope they’re wonderful. If you don’t, I hope you can avoid stores… And best wishes to everyone! Wendy P.

And that was told me by a woman who was on the same boat as us scuba diving a couple of weeks ago. She wore full make up and false eyelashes for scuba. Consider the source. Wendy P.
