  1. Agreed, it would be much more fun if everyone agreed on everything and there was peace on earth. Unfortunately, I don't think we'd get much done in that case, as we'd all agree on the first thing that came by and we'd still be bashing rocks on antilopes' heads to get our food. In any case different people have different ideas on how to best solve a problem. Some of those people have worked very hard on their idea and feel very strongly that their idea is the best solution. In defending their idea people will do many of the things you listed. It's just human nature and I think it's part of the process and I don't think we're on the road to hell. 2. The holes in the corners are indeed a thing you want closed. The material there was Y shaped (I think) so the tension gets divided somehow (not sure of the reasoning behind it actually). When I modded my old Blade some years ago I had my rigger close up these holes as well. The cuffs don't fit as nicely, but there was definitely no air leaking out any more. Why go through all the trouble of getting as much air into the wings as possible and then having a giant hole for the air to leak out (even get sucked out by the Bernoulli effect). Nice mods. They look really neat. The glue looks better than the sewing on the Blade (which was done by a skilled rigger). Cheers Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  3. During the 1st artistic wingsuit competition, ankle docks were part of one of the rounds. I can't remember really having a hard time with them, neither making the dock nor having someone hanging on your ankle. Of course, that's just with 2 people. I agree that it will become difficult as you add a 3rd person that tries to dock on the already docked 2nd person. The 2nd person is, as you mention, going to need his leg wing to be able to fly relative to the 1st person. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  4. You know they have a word for that? It's called a 'troll' (see wikipedia for an informative article), and most internet forums have at least one. Yuri is the wingsuit forum's resident troll. We'll just have to learn to live with him... Until that time, "don't feed the trolls." Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  5. Damn... you're right... I should've checked my calculations... I'll change it in the post as not to confuse people. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  6. Oh and yea the weatherforecast for Terni looks really good during the competition! Clear blue skies predicted! Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  7. The live scoreboard is finally live! http://www.wingsuitcompetition.com/scores/ Sorry it took a while. I'm on vacation in Switserland, and there's not much time for coding.
  8. Above certains contact speeds, water is like concrete. I don't see it as a viable landing surface, unless you want to skip across it... Water isn't compressible so doesn't have a very good cushioning effect. A huge aircushion would be best... Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  9. Graphs or it didn't happen! Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  10. Yea seriously Yuri, WTF is wrong with you? We've never seen any hard data from you... If you're so amazingly awesome, put your money where your mouth is, otherwise get off of your high horse and STFU! Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  11. Very very impressive Tony, nice work!! glad you could jump even though the weather was so shit. Except that those are the results for all tracks that have ever been uploaded to the Paralog Performance Competition website. For the Marl scoreboard, please go here: http://www.wingsuitcompetition.com/ppc/showevent.php?category=Time&event=Wings+over+Marl+2009&units=metric So no, Robi didn't participate in Marl this year. The score that you posted Butters, was at Gransee last year. Cheers Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  12. Hey Justin, You have an Alti-track right? I'd be interested to the graphs from JumpTrack. Cheers, Costyn. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  13. Tony? You serious? Come on guys. I know you are eager to make sales, but given the experience level quoted, this is PAST STUPID! Agreed, in my opinion putting someone with so little wingsuit experience in big suits like the SM1 and the X-Bird is irresponsible. Everything went well, but it could have gone badly just as well. What was the reasoning in putting him in this suit? I think he would've not been able to appreciate all the cool aspects of ths suit if he has no experience to be able to compare it with? Sorry Tony, I respect you and the things you make and do, but this was a bit silly if you ask me. Cheers, Costyn. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  14. In vein with this thread, I present a small video I made of some jumps I did with some freeflyers 2 weeks ago, while wearing my wingsuit. It was hard work, but a lot of fun. There was a unusually low camera to freeflyer ratio on the jump, so you don't get to see much of me, unfortunatley. I did take my camera on the 2nd and 3rd jumps though, so you can see my angle. I had to do a lot of carving to keep up with the 140mph fall-rate, but it worked ok. You can watch it on the Fly Like Brick site: http://www.flylikebrick.com/playmovie.php?id=52 I also posted it to World Wide Wingsuit News, so it might look familiar if you frequent that. 15. I've used it in the past to upload stuff to Tracking Derby without much fuss. I haven't played with it for more than a year, so they might've "broken" it for Mac OS X. Unfortunately I don't have any time to try it out for ya... maybe next week, I'll let you know. Cheers Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  16. Thanks, but Mirjam and I are being picked up by a chauffeur of the aparment rental agency that we're renting an apt from. So we don't need transport. Jerry still needs transport though I guess? Cheers Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  17. Mirjam and I will be arriving on the 22nd with Austrian Airlines, and we'll be staying in Kiev for the duration of our stay. On the days we're going to the dz we'll take a local taxi. We've booked an apartment with this agency: http://www.uarent.com/ Reasonable prices, clean looking apartments and recommended by the Lonely Planet guide book. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  18. I mailed them and unfortunately they're fully booked that weekend. The Lonely Planet has a bunch of hotels, hostels and apartments listed in Kiev. Hotels are amazingly expensive there, the cheaper option is to rent an apartment with a couple of others. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  19. Haha nice! I've done the same with Mirjam, she'd fly in her slowest atmonauti/track (sub 100mph vertical), I'd fly beside her in my wingsuit, and then under her and she'd land on me, and we'd keep flying together as a rodeo. Good times.
  20. As you so often say yourself Denis, show us the GPS data, or we don't believe it! Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  21. I've always envied his boundless energy. Jarno can party hard, sleep little, and fly hard for about a week. After that, on the way home, he crashes and sleeps and is suddenly very quiet for Jarno's usual banter. So yea he has the strange ability to delay the need for sleep for a while.. Very annoying when you can't match that... Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  22. Houdah GPS is a nice graphical tool you can download tracks & waypoints with; support nearly every type of GPS. ***I've tried Paralog Desktop for Mac but it requires a version of Java that only Mac OSX 5 (Leopard) has. Hmm they don't do the java updates for 10.4 any more? Strange... Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  23. Hmmm I'm thinking you should try combining the two; see how long you can hold your breath while doing a wingsuit jump. Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  24. 1. Deniq 2. Hagen 3. Benedikt 4. Costyn 5. Jarno Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
  25. Jarno said Gray Mike had a GPS so with some luck we'll be able to see it. And I'm sure that Jarno will post his Alti-Track graphs when he gets back home. Cheers Costyn van Dongen - http://www.flylikebrick.com/ - World Wide Wingsuit News
