Best advice I've read. Throw all statistics out of the window and as mentioned above don't do the jump unless you feel that you could handle it on your first jump. If you jump thinking I'm nowhere near 750 jumps and it happens on say your 10th one it's going to be a huge WTF is going on and you may not be mentally ready to cope, deal with it and ultimately save your life

I don't agree with this. Has anyone ever been parasailing before? I have, way before I ever got into skydiving. Back then all I knew was that I was hooked up to a parachute and being towed behind a boat. It was fun and nothing eventfull really happen. At that time I had no idea that there were differences in skydiving parachutes and parasailing parachutes. These guys saw a canopy and probably said "hey, I've seen one of these being towed behind boats all the time, why not a car?" If the incident involved a skydiver then I think the Darwin Adward should be given out, but not to a whuffo. Yes I've been parasailing and you know the best thing about coming down hard is water is a hell of a lot SOFTER than than ground

OK, if you have to choose between a broken back or a broken leg, yeah, go with the broken leg. How about option 'C', no breaking anything? Your orientation to the wind only controls your horizontal speed component. Into the wind will give a lower horizontal speed, and with the wind will give a higher horizontal speed. Your vertical speed (aka, the speed at which you hit the ground) is controlled by flaring the canopy. You can be landing downwind, in a 20 mph donwwind, and if you flare properly, your vertical speed upon touchdown will be the same as if you were landing into the wind. Any resultant injuries would be from your considerable forward speed, and how you handled it. Your number one job when landing your canopy is to have your wing level. Your number two job os to flare the canopy. Everything else is optional. If you're downwind, with a level wing a good flare, you will have little to no problems. If you hit a tree, house, or cow, and your wing is level and you have a good flare, you stand a good chance of walking away. If you are in the center of the flattest field you can find, and landing into a steady 8kt wind, and you are in a turn when you hit, or you fail to flare your canopy, you're gonna get messed up. See? Wing level + good flare = good chance for a safe landing, even if you screw up everything else. Wing not level and/or no flare = expect to bleed. I like option C. Whatever made him change his mind and try to turn 180. If you're not going to make it where you wanted to land he should have just thought AAARRRGGG FUCK IT and land into wind as the original plan. You look cooler landing with no injuries (even if you're not spot on the lz) than lying in the dirt waiting for an ambulance or lying in the dirt dead before ending up in a body bag.

The PIC is in command of the aircraft and all occupants. If there is an accident or incident ultimately the finger will be pointed at him. Enough said.

Instead of staying in a B&B why not save your cash and get a tent. They are going for next to nothing with sleeping bags and a blow up bed. Hinton has a good bathroom with showers.

Over 20 people have been reported dead now and I'm sure that it's really the tip of the iceberg. Guys just one request and try email this to as many people you know. Don't try and call any mobiles in London because the network is totally jammed and if anyone does need to make an emergency call then they won't be able to.

The busses were even fuller due to the fact that the tubes were hit first so people resorted to buses. Fucked up thats all I can say. Thankfully I was on a 7am shift or else I would have been caught up in the thick of it.

This was my first visit to Russia and I spent 4 weekends jumping at Aerograd where I easily got 46 jumps. I could have got double that amount if I was at the club from 1st load to last load every day. Everyone was very friendly and even though there was the obvious language barrier by learning a few Russian words you can easily get by. The food hall is great and by pointing or making friends with one of the regular jumpers you can eat very well. The toilets and showers are very good and the club is busy building huts to stay in which should be ready in the next few weeks. From the moment I got out of the taxi at the DZ (3pm) I was made to feel very welcome and after the paperwork and a slight weather hold I was up in the air (4pm) and managed 6 jumps by 9pm. My only problem was that I could not stay longer. This is a very very well organised professional safety conscious club. I do not have a negative thing to say about this club. My thanks to all staff and club members for making my trip to Aerograd very memorable. I WILL BE BACK AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

Yes I am saying that if cameramen or tandems did not have there bpa membership then they too could not jump. I recall an instructor name not supplied who did not have his card with him so was unable to teach his course. As for the cameramen and tandem instructors they made sure they had the required documentation. So YES the RULE did apply to everyone. How about you go and get your facts sorted out about the incident that you are bringing up which happened almost 2 years ago. I have video evidence that shows that there was no fuck up by me. If you would like to know further pm me and we can discuss it. You my friend need to GROW UP. At least I have the balls to turn up at my club of choice week in week out, if there ARE any problems I don't post them onto a public forum and make a bad name for that particular club. I agree it is a really great place to jump. The hotel is a bit of a hole but it is pretty cheap. There is no hot water but it has the main thing A BED oh and breakfast. There are showers at the DZ which are pretty good. I guess you can always take a tent. The taxi should cost no more than 250 roubles. One piece of advice bring some good mozzie spray or cream as they can be pretty ferocious. Blue skies

No matter how good looking you are or thin you are you are going to have body/skin flappage. Just look at someones face in freefall now imagine that it is there body. Naked jumps are great fun I've done 3 already and planning another in about 20 jumps (300)

It's a tradition in South Africa to do your 100th naked. I did my 86th naked for the pilots 1000th hour piloting skydivers. The four of us jumpers got to the plane, the pilot cut the engine got out and started stripping then told us why so we all looked at each other and thought fuck it lets all do it. My next one was my 100th jump where about 6 of us did it naked. Great fun jump. 200th jump sit fly with camera dude. It hurt more in sit fly so theres me trying to hold my nuts and stay in the sit. We have someone who takes photographs of skydivers coming in to land. She did not know that I was doing a naked jump so her comment when she was taking a picture was. "Someone has a skin coloured suit on with a real looking penis" I have about 20 jumps to go now till 300. Should be getting a topless girl on the jump as well.

I have to laugh at this thread as it has been started by someone who obviously is to narrow minded to look into the future. For your business can you not see that by stopping smoking yuo may actually encourage people who don't like being in a smoky bar to your establishment. In the near future trust me the smokers will return. I spent a weekend in ireland (Dublin) a few months ago where smoking has been banned in all bars/restaurants. Every single bar/club that i went to over the course of the weekend was packed. People just went outside to have a smoke. It did not stop them coming. Guys Kolomna is a great place to jump. I jumped there for my firs*** well the time before my second time see I didn't say that other word. I got 6 jumps on Saturday even though I only started jumping around 4pm ish Does anyone have a telephone number for them except the one that is advertised on dropzone.com as I desperately need to call them.
