  1. Just out of intrest. Did you know this before you jumped ? My original question was more to do with jumpers attitudes to the reserve repack cycle. ie. is it just a bothersome rule, or a justified safety feature. It seems from most replys that people would be happy from a safety viewpoint to extend the cycle way beyond its current 120 day/6 month period. This leads to the questions, Who decides the lenght of time between repacks? Should there be a stronger lobby to extend it? who thinks the current period is the correct one? "be honest with yourself. 4. Yea sure give it a go The Darwin awards have been a little boring lately "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing
  5. This makes me think about my own attitude. With regards to reserve repack dates (here in Ireland it is every 6 months) I would not attempt to jump if my reserve was out of date. Its the rule you just don't do it. But another rule "you must not jump through clouds" We seem to ignore. I think this is because one was enforced the other wasn't. It's all down to the way you were thought and what was accepted practice as you began in the sport. It is very like traffic lights. We all know orange means stop, but the vast majority of people take it as a signal to speed up and get through the junction before the lights go red. "be honest with yourself. 9. But my question is how long out of date? Where would you draw the line 1 mounth, 6 mounths, 1 year 10 years, when? "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing
  10. OK apart from the fines and the problems caused by being caught what would you do? Is being caught jumping an ilegal rig the only thing that makes you get your reserve repacked? 11. You can get a good 10 seconds from 4000 "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing
  12. I have never seen this in my very limited experience. But if you were not "policed" in this respect what would you do? "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing
  13. I am hoping to get a few jumps in this weekend. So sitting with my Girlfriend I just thought "when is my reserve due its repack?" She said "Surely its not that Important" My thought I am a bit anal about these things gear checks repack cycle ect. So I wonder if you were at the dropzone and discovered that you needed a reserve repack what would you do? Not jump at all until it is repacked? just do this one and get it packed then? say " its ok for the weekend I'll get it done next week"? How long overdue would a reserve have to be before you would not jump? "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing
  14. No you are not alone. I jump a PD190 f111 canopy loaded at about 0.85:1 and with just over 100 jumps I wouldnt say I have mastered this canopy. But I have no desire to downsize I am very happy with my canopy even though I have had to sit out a few jumps where the winds were too strong for my light wingloading. I have jumped a shiloute 170 in 20 mph winds and landed fine but when I did jump in 20 mph winds on my own canopy I landed goiing backwards. Since then anything above 17mph and I sit it out "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing
  15. Maybe it is just bravado to cover up first jump jitters, or it could be that he justs wants to talk skydiving and not having the experience of a few jumps to talk about latches onto things that seem exciting in the sport. But if you think he is the kind of guy that would actually buy a base rig and jump it without real training, maybe you should give your instructors a heads up on what they are taking on "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing
  16. Just a question. How easy would it be to miss this when packing? I would have imagined that it would be pretty obvious when you put tension on the lines and also as you stowed the risers. 17. This has hurt a lot of people..........in every sport "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing

Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing
  19. Thank god we are not bound by uspa/faa rules or we would never get to jump. Once the cloud base is above 2500 ft we are good to go. I have often got out in cloud at 10000ft and fell to 2500ft all in cloud only to be able to see the ground at 2000 "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing
  20. in flight rigging is something that i would never try IMHO if I cant land it as it is I will use the other one "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing
  21. I know a few people with way more around 3000 that have never had a cutaway "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing
  22. Funny I didnt the main flap was a problem as this is not held by velcro but has a tuck tab and is quiet tight. This would be my big fear. I think I will try a few solo jumps with it and if that seems ok get someone to jump and observe me. If nothing looks too bad maybe I will jump solo and try to learn until I can get a more suitable rig. Thanks for the free advice..............it is free isn't it? "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing
  23. Hi sorry if this has been answered to death, but after an hour of searching I can only find advice to people about to buy a rig. I have a classic teardrop container in good condition, velcro riser covers are good. I ask my rigger to inspect them and replace anything that isn't perfect at every reserve repack. I have an exit weight of about 175 pounds and fall very slow flat about 110mph and most jumpers have a problem staying up with this. So I want to learn to sitfly. Is my rig too dangerous to learn on? When learning and presumably going unstable in a sit going to put extra strain on flaps etc? or is this rig OK for sit but not suitable for anything faster? Your opinions would help a lot "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing
  24. At our dropzone we use 2 way radios on the students. The radio is in an inside pocket of the jumpsuit with an earpiece. The 2 way is very handy when a student lands off because you can tell them to take out the radio and talk back to you. Helps a lot when you are trying to find them and lets you know if they are hurt etc. "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? 25. Also watch your altitude you can fire a student cyprus under a perfect canopy with hard toggel turns "be honest with yourself. Why do I want to go smaller? It is not going to make my penis longer." ~Brian Germain, on downsizing
