  1. Thought I'd pop in & say Hi! As long as the weather plays along I'll start my AFF on 12/17 and finish that same week. And since my Days off are Sun,Mon,Tues I plan to be a Monday jumper as well. So hopefull you guys don't get too far ahead of me between now & then! :)
  2. My real name is Jay. I believe I've seen you up there a few times!
  3. I've been lurking a while and post on something every now & then, but decided it was time to pop in for a formal-ish introduction. I started IAD at freefall express in Mt.Vernon MO 15 years or so ago, But after a couple of jumps I ran outta time & money. Then I got started working a couple of jobs, got married, had kids etc and time got away from me. But a year or so ago my job was eliminated and I was given to choice to move to either Ohio or Central Florida if I wanted to stay employed. Long story short I wound up moving just outside of Deland FL & found out that I was practically living in Skydiving Mecca. So I've spent the last year or so taking the Wife & kids to The Perfect Spot at Skydive Deland for lunch until she finally got the hint. I finally scrounged up some time off & some cash and I'm all set up to start my AFF in December. So if you see a bearded newbie hanging around, stop by and say hi :) I'll be sure to keep ya'll posted on my progress
  4. Colonel Joe Kittinger stopped by Skydive Deland today. Was an honor to meet him in person & shake his hand!
  5. I have.. I wouldn't say thats "normal", but it's really not alarming either. As long as you've got good 316 SS jewelry in just leave it alone, bleeding will stop. and just be careful when you clean it in the future so that you don't irritate it and get it started again
  6. My 1st jump was an IAD jump when i was 19, but that was almost 15 years ago, and I couldn't remember if i told my parents or not. So I just called my mom to ask, and she said I did not tell her.. just like i did not tell her when i decided to get a few tattoos and piercings (it was the 90s.. that stuff was still cool ) but THEN she said thank you... and told me I always did a good job of protecting her from my shenanigans so that she didn't have to worry. Unfortunately I ran out of time & money and never made it beyond a handful of jumps, and never finished the IAD course. But I just recently moved to Deland and found out that it's pretty much skydiving Mecca. So I'm scrounging up the money, and making the time. So I'll be starting My AFF very soon. But this time I'll probably tell mom
  7. I know most of you guys are experienced tunnel flyers\skydivers so this may not help you guys. But for a guy like me who has never set foot in a tunnel, and is still gathering funds for AFF, it's a pretty good deal The groupon is for $75 for 2 people to take their introductory tunnel flights (two 1 minute flights), however I asked and instead of 2 people, 1 person can use all 4 minutes of tunnel time. Seeing as the normal rate for a 1st time flyer for 4 minutes is $110 this seemed like a good deal to me, so I jumped on it and thought i would share http://www.groupon.com/deals/sky-venture-orlando-2?c=all&p=1
  8. now it's a single engine, experimental, amphibious plane from Illinois .. thank god they wait for the facts before they report them....
  9. newest update still called it a skydive plane.. but in addition to calling it a "twin engine experimental" .. they said it was amphibious
  10. now they (local news) just confirmed that they spoke to skydive deland, and that it is not one of their planes but they are still calling it a skydive plane (a twin engine experimental)
  11. on the latest update they said it was 2 men flying the plane, that they were from out of town, and the the type of aircraft was described as "experimental" by the pilot and co-pilot ... which does not sound like any of skydive deland's planes sounds like media speculation...
