Stickers in the inside of airplanes?
Pacific replied to CC_Shenanigans's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think it looks trashy. Others (including tandems, students) may also percieve that the plane and organization are poorly maintained. The stickers themselves are usually stupid...appealing to maybe few of those who know the meaning of the stickers. Considering that many DZs don't actually own their plane(s), I wonder how the owners feel about it. -
I have none...I find them trashy. I choose not to be with someone with tattoos.
-
Stupid tattoo Stupid religion Stupid Muslims Stupid DZO Stupid thread
-
No I don't mind...the door is usually already open anyway.
-
They have always opened soft for me. I'd worry about the landing if I were you.

Says the prick with 3000 posts. I have a marketing background. I look at ads differently. Been jumping since 05...already familiar with the gear. I was bored.
-
Thanks for pointing that out. I actually liked this ad. The black/white background makes the rig stand out. A good shot of the rig in action. It actually looks comfortable.

So I'm doing my monthly speed reading through Parachutist, and I can't help but get annoyed by some of the ongoing ads. I've seen some of these ads repeat month after month, but they continue to poorly convey their product. In my experience, advertising is an expensive and critical component of business. Mirage As soon as I open the front cover, I see an interesting Mirage ad. What are they selling? I see a cute couple and an image of them swooping together. Are those Mirage canopies? No, apparently it's a harness/container advertisement. Those look like neat rigs, but I just can't tell from this angle. This ad is slightly less vague than the Mirage ads of last year. You know, the ads where a handsome guy is sitting alone at night in his bar/club clothes...a male escort service perhaps? Wings On page 30, I see a blurry image of an evaporating man. Apparently this is another harness/container manufacturer, but I can barely make out a rig. Aerodyne The back cover is graced by some cute gals as they show off their sponsor, a harness/container/canopy manufacturer. Again, no clear pics of rigs or canopies. My address label covers part of the image, but I can see some bits and pieces of the rigs. I find myself staring at the rig on the left, and the position of the emergency handles. Can customers find them in freefall? Perhaps these manufacturers are confident that their reputations will compensate for the vagueness and/or lack of useful visual aids. Maybe they assume that their products are common knowledge among the skydiving community. But page 31-32 lists dozens of new skydivers who are going to be receiving this magazine on a monthly basis. These newbies will soon be buying new or used gear. Just saying... There were several sharp and cleaver ads throughout this month's issue. The gear dealers definitely have their act together.

Funniest thing I've seen all week. Thanks.

Compared to the guys who purposely sag their pants so low, I can't really find a fault with guy's socks.

Would you move forward after this tandem?
Pacific replied to Interestedude's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Try another tandem...then you'll know for sure. -
Agree. My co-workers are wondering why my cubicle erupted in laughter. I needed that.

Glad i left Eloy when team qatar showed up....

Then all the boycotting skydivers will be accused of being racists. So what? -
Yes, I would. My rig & canopies were made in the USA by USA companies...giving me a good/proud feeling. But that's not entirely why I bought them. They had good products/reputations and I need these items to skydive. Price was also a factor. I don't have an AAD, don't need one to skydive [in USA], and I feel that they are all overpriced. But if you design a good AAD, have the Chinese make it, charge $500.......I'll buy it.

What canopy should I choose to fly next?
Pacific replied to sooperswooper's topic in Gear and Rigging
You should demo the following canopies first: Stiletto 120 Nitron 120 Crossfire2 119 They should fit your current rig and give you an idea of what Stiletto-class canopies are capable of. You may actually really like it even though they are not purpose-built swoop machines. They all fly a little different and demoing will allow you to find the canopy that YOU like best. Remember, these canopies can be swooped and can hurt/kill you if you f*ck up. You're actually at a dangerous time in your skydiving career. I've seen more guys at your level get broken than newbies. When you're ready, you can try my Nitron 108 at Perris. Just don't get any blood on it. -
cheap hop 'n pops -- economically efficient?
Pacific replied to CloudyHead's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Ask the pilot to let you out at 5k. Isn't 3k too low for A license holders anyway? -
Nothing on your poll mentions the feeling of betrayal. That hurt the most. Bill Von was close. You don't even have to be in a coupled relationship for it to be a traumatic experience. Perhaps the worst part is how cheaters try to justify their infidelity.

late-December balloon jump at Perris, need jumpers
Pacific replied to grue's topic in Events & Places to Jump
So how did the jump go? Cold enough? Pics please -
I'm not a donor. What is the criteria for receiving a donor's organ/tissue? What makes you worthy to receive? Is it just a list...first come...first serve?

You lost me in the second paragraph. I used the sticky [profile] mount that came with the Contour. Works perfectly on the flat surfaces of my Rawa helmet. Decided to use the curved 360 mount for my motorcycle. Mounted to a clean surface, both mounts handle 180+ mph.

I own Cutaway and still like watching it from time to time. It's a bit cheesy, but it has a lot of real skydiving footage. It's also a little refreshing to know that both Stephen Baldwin & Tom Berenger did many of their own jumps during the filming. While very fictional, it did show a lot of real aspects of our sport: tandem funnies, student training, license, going broke, competition, DZ romance, bohemians, death, etc...along with a few commonly used one liners. The DVD director's commentary is also interesting.

Closing Pin Necklace, bought or earned?
Pacific replied to ReluctantStool's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Some day you will earn your A license by demonstrating enough proficiency and paying your license fee. Despite the related humor and high expense, your A license is not a consumer product. The privilege that it bestows goes hand-in-hand with the responsibility that is required to use it. As for my necklace...it's a silly ornament for the most part. I wasn't proficient or crafty enough to make/steal one. So I payed for it; therefore, I earned it. -
Finally! Now people can stop asking me, "Am I blinking?"

Thank you for sticking up for your DZ and fellow jumpers by saying something and reporting it. You didn't overreact. It's no different than someone carelessly tossing their cigarette on a playground while kids are playing. Some people just don't get it. Sometimes I really wish that smoking killed faster.
