  1. Caroline and Joe, thanks for your offers. As sson as I know flight details I might PM you. However it might not be necessary as the DZO also offered to take care about it. M. vSCR No.94 Don't dream your life - live your dream!
  2. Paul, happy birthday also through here - and enjoy your holiday. As this thread might be frequented by folks who know me from TX - I am planning to be at SSM on the weekend of July 7 - so be there!!! M. vSCR No.94 Don't dream your life - live your dream!
  3. I think that this is a typo. I f I remember correctly, until you get off student status, you have to use an AAD. Some bakground: The Airtec (manufacturer of CYPRES) website states, that it has sold some 80000 units of CYPRES I. From what I know (feel free to correct me), there has never been a misfire with CYPRES I. When it fired, it was due to the fact, that the activation parameters where fullfilled - this might not always be intended, like on highspeed approaches, but it wasn't, what I call a misfire. It also sometimes didn't fire, when you expected it and again, this wasn't a misfire but an improper activation. The user in the case I have in mind forgot to set the difference between starting point and DZ elevation. The early VIGIL had some misfires on the ground due to static electricity issues, but the company has replaced the "old" models and up to now, I haven't heard about VIGIL misfires. All the "not expected" fires where again caused by hitting the parameters. From my point of view it is, as I haven't heard of any such case. Even if it would fire at 150 ft, your reserve would probably not inflate as mentioned before. For all you technical freaks: How do you define machine? Does an altimeter already count? If so, you better rely on a machine as altitude awareness needs some jumps to be trained. Beside the AAD topic, I personally like to encourage you to put up as many questions as you can think of. While a lot of them might be stupid from our/my poin of view, they certainly aren't - at least in first place - for you. My instructor always told me that there are no stupid questions - just stupid answers! Enjoy your training, M. vSCR No.94 Don't dream your life - live your dream!

  5. No, but I wasn't allowed to answer to your invitation. Didn't we had to put our birthdays in the database somewhere? If not, shouldn't we do so? Yes, I kind of know them - that's the reason I want to go there (just received a nice invitation!!!!!). And as I do nearly everything to get a free jump, I am trying to sort things out to come. And for the good old times, I might again bring my all-black jumpsuit, as it was most suitable for Texas temperatures. M. vSCR No.94 Don't dream your life - live your dream!
  6. Hi there! I want to go to Skydive San Marcos on the above mentioned days. Here is my problem, I am flying in from Europe to Houston and would need a ride KHOU - SSM on July 6th and back on July 9th or 10th. Anyone? M. vSCR No.94 Don't dream your life - live your dream!

  13. Nasal saline spray might help as clocked ears often come through sinus problems. Also Sudafed might help. But talk to your instructor whenever you want to take any medication prior to jumping. M. vSCR No.94 Don't dream your life - live your dream!

  15. If you look at this http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_attachment;postatt_id=61040; you see the front pae of my excell logbook giving me counts for each canopy and each plane I jumped. Do do the formulas you have to be accruate in writing the names: sabre 2 is a diffferent canopy than sabre2 for example. If you want to sort by other things, you could add a column for work/fun, one for RW/Freefly/CRW/Base... And then come up with a formula to count it (I use "if"-clauses checking the cell, and then for rxample add 1 for RW and 0 in the other counts if the cell has "RW" in it. 20. Thai Sky Festival - running right now: http://www.thaiskyfestival.com/ Bu I would suggest to get some more jumps even if no requirement is posted for some of the boogies because you don't want to worry about winds pushing you over the see without being able to handle this. Also, a lot of these boogies offer organized bigway jumps and you also don't want to screw these jumps and be put to do single jumps. M. vSCR No.94 Don't dream your life - live your dream!
  21. I still log. In fact I have three different logbooks: 1) a paper version, where I also write some debriefs or intersting things that happend - this is fun, when you read it after some months. I also draw the formations in there (up to 16 ways, anything bigger I try to get a print out) and on interesting jumps try to get the signature(s) of people involved. For example some in japanese writing during a Bigway Camp in Perris. 2) the JumpTrack logbook which you can buy for the protrack. This is in order to log freefalltime. 3) an excell spreadsheet with some automated statistics (see attached screenshot of the frontpage) like number of jumps out of aircraft XY, number of night jumps, time in days since last jump, number of jumps in actual year, ...) In Perris they required to show them the logbokk with at least the last 20 jumps signed. In Germany you have to make 12 jumps a year to stay current, so some dropzones look for the last 12 jumps. 22. 15 in total, with nearly all of them having photos from below and above the formation on the record jump. vSCR No.94 Don't dream your life - live your dream!
  23. Different location of the camer guy -- yes. different location of the jump -- no. In regards to the next record: In his interview on skydiveradio.com BJ mentioned that 444 would be a pretty cool number. From my personal impression that would be still doable with the five planes - even if this time it was already pretty "cosy" in the hercs and I don't know if Ben could extend the oxygen system. It will probably take at least 2 years but my guess would be 3+. M. vSCR No.94 Don't dream your life - live your dream!
  24. We broke the record? Really??? O.K. I'm gonna have a Singha immediately. M. vSCR No.94 Don't dream your life - live your dream!
  25. Hi sweetheart, nice avatar! Hope you have already signed up for the camp - it's a lot of fun and it might bring you to Thailand one day. blue ones, M. Edit to add: Oops, you need to do 75 more jumps - so hurry up!!! vSCR No.94 Don't dream your life - live your dream!
