I did a hop n pop from 4g this week-end and I was given shit for opening low. I pulled at 3000 but I fly a spectre and I wasn't in the saddle until 2000. I talked to lots of "big DZ" jumpers that never experienced the sphincter-tightening joy of jumping out low. Up in Canada, old-schoolers call it "going for a little air bath". Screw th doctors, screw all who think differently! I got my ass to my local DZ today and after watching a few loads land, I manifested. I had to do it. I spent all winter wondering if I was going to sell my rig because of the epilepsy, and then that MS diagnosis last week... So I got my ass geared up and did a hop 'n pop at 4000 ft. I was in the door and all I thought about was "this bastard won't get me without a fight!" and I went. I did about a 10 sec delay (it almost took me that long to get stable!), pulled, had a really funky line-twisty opening, got out of that and landed cross-wind. The DZ owner was in the field when I landed, he knows what up with me, so he gave me a big high five and a big grin. I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!! And as long as I can, I'll keep doing it. I wasn't jacked like on other jumps, but I had this feeling of vindication, like I won out over something. I'm glad you guys were here to support me. Along with a few of my buddies back home, you're the people who made this happen. Thanks PS. my rig WILL NOT be for sale. COngrats on your nigh jumps!!!! It is absolutely freaky at first, but I really got to enjoying the peacefulness of it all. Since my seizure in December, I've been in and out of doctor's offices, taking tests, being probed and prodded and I was finally referred to an expert who knew his shit. He sent me for an MRI last moth and called me in to see him yesterday. The conversation started with "The good news is that it's not a tumor and it wont kill you..." He then proceeded to tell me that the MRI showed damage to the white matter (myelin) on my brain... He asked me about nubness in my extrmities, fatigue and all these things to which I kept answering "yes, it happens often..." Then he looks at me and says "It looks like what I thought. We need more tests, but it's about a 90% chance that you have Multiple Sclerosis" SO that's it. I have a condition for which no cause has been found, no cure has been found and might land me in a wheelchair next month like it may not manifest itself for another 5 to 10 years. Anyone out there know something about this bitch? Is my skydiving career over for good? Will they give me my drivers licence back? What the FUUUUUCK???????? I need a hug and I want a stiff fucking drink, although I haven't touched the shit in seven years. I'm sure i'll get over it and keep on living, but right now, this sucks sweaty moose balls! _________________________________________ Did I just kill another thread?

I compressed two vertebrea at the end of the season in 2001. When summer 2002 came, it took me a good long while to get my ass back up into the plane. It's OK by me. I had to build up my balls again, and I was also concerned for my back. I eventually went back up and had a great summer. My two cents: 1) Trust your gut. If it don't feel right, don't go. I called a few loads last year. On one of them the guy that took my spot caught a microburt and broke both legs and another guy drifted 15 km from the DZ. I'm not kidding! 2) My back was fine on openings. Actually, its felt pretty good... straightened out my spine and all. Howver, when your back hurts before a load, refer to #1. 3) At 30 yrs old, after several serious falls in my life, I had to realize that the warranty on my body is about up. As such, my approaches are careful, cool and easy. No hooks, no madness and if there's traffic, i'll take the student field and a hike over the closer high-traffic spot. The season started here in late april, and I still haven't gone up. I had a tough winter, my wife had a baby boy and I'm now "offically" diagnozed as epilpetic. Physically, I think I could jump, but right now my head's not in it, so I figure I'll wait, maybe hit a boogie or two and see how I feel... IF it;s good, i'll go large again next year. April 23, two days past Easter, and we get SNOW!!!!!
