  1. too bad we couldn't make a petition like they are doing in the uk http://www.visordown.com/motorcycle-news--general-news/dont-move-near-a-track-if-you-cant-put-up-with-the-noise/25960.html
  2. IIRC, the slider on the Katana is built in part with mesh. If you put an RDS from another manufacturer on the canopy that does not have the same size mesh area, you will affect the opening characteristics of the canopy. Please contact PD directly if you intend to do this and get their input before doing so. support@performancedesigns.com I think thats only on bigger katanas. I havent seen the mesh up to 120's. A friends 150 has yhe mesh though. Havent ever seen a 135.
  3. its funny you say that even if it was 7 years ago. the reason i started skydiving was because even though i could get hurt it wouldn't be every week.
  4. Whatever is the most unstable with the most amount of people! If it doest get wierd then its not a party! If you tell us what kind of plane you jump out of we could be a little more specific.
  5. wow! awesome video man! thanks for sharing!
  6. If you are planing go to a sabre2 150 then demo a sabre2 170. You may be even able to trade your pilot for a sabre2 or even sell your pilot and buy a sabre2. I do like to test jump other stuff a lot to. It just lets me see how other canopies fly and is tons of fun too. Just remember to do hop n pops on unfamiliar canopies.
  7. Also, listen more than you talk, no question is stupid, kick any ego you have out, and you may need to grow some thick skin if you are gonna be hanging out on here.
  8. Step 1- cutaway, quit your job and find a full time dropzone. Step 2-learn to pack and start making a couple of bucks for jumps, first step to get your riggers ticket for even more money. Step 3-sell the bike for your first rig, you cant transport all your skydiving gear anyways, also dont blow the money on jumps. Your own rig will be the best investment you can make in this sport. Step 4- get 100 jumps and become a coach, free jumps and you will learn a lot yourself. Step 5- get 200 jumps and start wingsuiting, also go take a base course. Step 6- get your aff rating and tandem rating, also learn to fly camera(real money makers) Step 7- do 500 base jumps and 500 wingsuit jumps Step 8- wingsuit proximity jump! Skydiving is a huge journey. There are people that can win a gold metal i. One discipline and feel like an Aff student in another. Theres no rush and its really easy to find a discipline that you didnt consider and get side tracked. You are almost finished aff. You are already in the one percent of return jumpers. You are on your way! Stick to your goals and follow your dreams. blue skies! P.S. You're already flying dude!
  9. I would agree, but that's not the same as saying you can't do conservative HP landings if you have been doing them previously. And before I get jumped on for that; yes, there are more and less conservative HP landings. IMO if you're jumping a cross-brace, you should not have to go back to straight-in landings if you downsize. Of course, there is nothing wrong with doing it, and everyone should be able to land straight-in, but I don't think it's the same as when a student downsizes. +1 doc. There definitely is a difference between throwing an easy turn for shits and giggles and ripping a turn looking to get everything the canopy is worth. Im pretty decent at 270's and just started 450's today. Being on my katana 107 and having flown a velo 103 a couple of times. If i jumped on a velo 96- velo 90 id probably throw a medium powered 270 on it first jump. My progression usually followed learn something, downsize, get back to where i was, dial it in, learn something new and get decent on it, downsize again. Thats been my approach and its been working for me( so far anyways). As far a students go, its the same. Learn to flare, downsize, get better at flaring for stand ups and get more accurate, downsize. The only thing i dont agree with is learning bigger turns with a really high loading on a small as canopy. There's too many mistakes to be made with bigger turns and the bigger turns are a whole different animal compared to 90's. If it works for someone though then more power to them. We all have different paths to our progression, but the ultimate goal is to land to swoop again.
  10. Lose the AAD and you wont have to worry about landing a reserve unconscious
  11. TBH that doesn't seem all that extreme to me. If he just downsized one size and was competent at 180 or larger turns before then I don't see much of an issue purely based on the info you gave. That doesnt seem to extreme to me either. Not like being on a sub 100 canopy at a 2.6 w/l and trying to learn 180's on it with only 500 jumps(if your profile is correct). Also you state you have 200 jumps on it. So youve been jumping a sub100 crossedbraced @2.6 w/l since 300 jumps and you're worried about someone else? Ha, id be more worried about you than the other guy.
  12. well like i said, the bungies were sufficient once i just moved the knot. i didn't try to jump it before the knots were moved, i just noticed it looked loose when i hooked them up.
  13. got my funk in and put a couple of jumps on it!. suit came in on time as said. i don't have enough experience to give a review about any flight characteristics or comparisons vs other suits. upon first hook up i found the bungies for the zippers a little loose for my harness. i just slid the knots down to tighten them up and had no problems. fit of the suit felt perfect! got over three minutes of flight time per my neptune 2. flew with a ghost both just relaxed and we just stayed right on side of each other no problems, the rest of the jump was fun. i just know this is a really sexy jaw dropping suit that i had a lot of fun on and know it only has more fun to be had on it. i love my funk!
  14. Nice choice! I love sabre's! just remember any time you downsize or switch canopies just remember to do some hop & pops away from traffic and do some canopy drills. You're gonna have a lot of fun on that canopy!
  15. the main thing to do is take your experience you had and stick it in your tool box. do you remember how strong the winds were? they sound like they were at about your limit for the canopy you were flying. good job on not panicing and landing safely! the stronger the winds are the more upwind your holding area needs to be. when winds are at your limit, don't go past anything thats downwind of where you want to be. once again good job landing safely! that's rule number 1!
  16. I had actually contacted precision about the x-mod for the fx last month. They didnt seem to have any problems doing the mod.
  17. its just like a tracking dive or a landing pattern. know what jump run and the winds are doing. get out last so you know if jump run changed or turned at the last second so you know where everyone is. figure out if a right hand pattern or a left hand pattern would be best based on jump run and out landing locations. the more powerful the track the wider you make your pattern. if you are new to a drop zone, talk to locals about local policies and try to keep an open mind. maybe have them lead a dive for your first time there. navigation takes experience. its even harder in a new suit or new location. p.s. following my advice may cause off landings and not only will i not take responseability but i will also point and laugh!
  18. Oh, i was more talking about the innie/outie system eating handles. I like the loops. It makes for a tight wing and makes unzipping a breeze.
  19. i would like to see more options for the squirrel suits. my funk should be arriving in about 3 weeks. i hope my suit won't be handle hungry. i didn't know that problem existed i guess thats what i get for ordering something newly released
  20. Sounds good to me! Very smooth but formal.
  21. welcome to "customized settings" Yea. Geeez. Things that make you go hmmmmm learn something new everyday
  22. Since the aad's are already controlled by a computer device why can't they make them customizable? "Oh, you're a swooper?"Just set the firing point to 2000' and have it shut off at 1000' or what ever you want. If im gonna spend 1500 bucks on an electronic device i should be able to customize the settings
