16 yo looking to get into skydiving
ridebmxbikes replied to Nick117's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
And learn how to pack parachutes! You could even do that on the weekends during school too as long as it doesnt interfere with your school work. Excellent way to get jump tickets! -
Haha, guy is probably flying a petra by now

As a vidiot i dont get to have wind limits but i do appreciate all ti's who don't go in too extreme of winds! On the other hand if its only me and ti's i have some clear airspace to throw down a wicked downwinder!

There may be a lot of people out there that might be uncomfortable to have you strapped to their backs because of looks, its unfortunate you have to go through that. Just keep trying and make sure you let your personality shine through so bright they can even see the outside apperance! Never give up on your dreams and i wish the best of luck to you!

Confused on Joining USPA for A License?

Yeah, skip that part. Its just a generic form for new and renewing members. Just fill in what you can. If they have any problems with something they will just call you. -
Price Question, 2003 Reserve Canopy
ridebmxbikes replied to Rebecca-Berlin's topic in Gear and Rigging
Weird. I am a younger rigger, not old grey-bearded one. I have ratings and I haven't been jumping anywhere close to 40 years. I got plenty of round manuals, I have packed (and continue to pack) plenty of rounds, and I have jumped and landed plenty of various rounds (both reserves and mains). sorry, just wanted to brag :) I know a guy with a 31 year old round reserve and he has no problem getting it re-packed. The rigger says a lot of people wouldnt touch it because of its age but it looks brand new and passes all the tests so why not! He just says good luck with all the trees if you ever have to use it ive been trying to trade him my mr150 for it but he wont go for it -
sit-fly jacket instead of wings?
ridebmxbikes replied to ridebmxbikes's topic in Photography and Video
Ha, thanks for your replies guys. I guess im gonna have to bite yhe bullet and save for some wings. I do find myself in the knee low position but still have no idea how im getting into it. I just know when i do fall into it its really comfortable to film in. Haha, i tried that front float exit, it gave me an awesome exit shot of the tandems face with the plane in the back round but they quickly got away from me. Had to fly super fast back to them and didnt do the pop up for the drogue shot for more face time. Thanks again guys! -
Ask them how you can get them to come to your dz. If you can get enough people together im sure you can make it happen. Money talks. Or you can try to talk to people and ask who is the right person to talk to. If you want to take a crew course then they must have some dogs there you can talk to.

sit-fly jacket instead of wings?
ridebmxbikes replied to ridebmxbikes's topic in Photography and Video
hey all! I'm a new videographer! I'm 5'5" and 130lbs. i started filming tandems a couple of months ago and found a tandem can actually out float me! ran into the gear store and found a sit-fly jacket that gave me the extreme slow range for some of them guys. my problem is, is that i think i lost my extreme fast fall range (150-160mph) for the heavy guys even with a couple of extra pounds than what i usually wear with them. I've even done 160mph with no weight on and kept up. do any of you think i may not be able to shut down the arms enough? do any of you have that problem with a camera jacket with wings? maybe i should just get a real camera jacket? thanks in advance for your replies! -
Shhh, stop giving the scammers tips!

you could always go with an original saber with a stock slider, you can make em open as fast as you want, its long openings were 500 feet which were firm but smooth transitions through the opening stages

Chest rings on containers - pros and cons.
ridebmxbikes replied to degeneration's topic in Gear and Rigging
More education needed for me - How do chest rings affect harness turns? Thanks. ................................................................................. Ask hard-core, competitive pro-pond swooping canopy pilots. Research photos of them in competition. I cant see having chest rings making any difference to the hard core swoopers because most of them completely undo their chest strap because they have belly bands. Even the ones that do keep the chest strap connected, the chest strap is so long that it doesnt have any tension to make a difference from a harness turn. -
You are the comic gift that keeps on giving. I thought that was herpes. Same thing except penicillin wont help this! And neither does with herpes, I'm afraid. The main difference is, in order to get herpes you at least need to have accomplished something. Why ya gotta be gettin all technical n shit?!

Go Pro 3+ on a Cookie G3: Advice/Suggestions
ridebmxbikes replied to jumps13's topic in Photography and Video
No experience with the roller mount but ive mounted a few standard mounts on g3's. Put the helmet on and raise your visor till your vision is unobstructed. If you look up you should only be able to see the edge of the visor. Once you have your visor adjusted, Take the helmet off and put the sticky with the camera mounted on it up to the edge of the top of your visor. Center your placement from side to side and stick the sticky. Now you have an unobstructed view when your camera is mounted. When you un mount the camera the visor will go all the way back as normal. Be sure to clean the mounting surface of the helmet first before sticking and let the sticky mount cure at the very least overnight before use. This is only the system i use to install them and its worked for me and a few others. -
Opinions please- cookie g3 dual camera setup?
ridebmxbikes replied to ludikris's topic in Photography and Video
Just started videoing tandems myself. While i was training i was using a g3 and a go-pro. I was thinking of doing the same thing wiyh yhe duel camera mount. The video is a lot shakier from the g3. I got a camera helmet with a ratcheting chin strap and the shakes went away. Just remember its like everything else in skydiving, always use the right tools. -
Know a girl that broke her arm on exit out of an otter. It was just a small fracture. She was doing coach training jumps, she left and the instructor didnt, clipped her arm on the way out. She was a champ too. Still jumped the rest of the weekend! Of course she didnt know it was broken till she went to the doctor monday. Another friend was doing a 3-way chest strap gripped exit and had his shoulder dislocated on exit. It was his right arm, he still stayed with us through the jump and had to go straight to silver at pull time.

How aggressively did you down size?
ridebmxbikes replied to Nerra's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
whoa! hold on now! you were going great till that last little part! the risks with downsizing rapidly and getting into high performance landing are greatly increasing your chance for dying compared to trying a new trick on a snowboard or hitting a new ramp. i rode bmx(street and skateparks) for 14 years. never have i experienced a jump as high or speeds as great as one of my hp landings. you won't get hurt as often skydiving as some of the other extreme sports but you can't afford even 1% of the mistakes skydiving as compared to other sports. We're talking downsizing here, not HP landings. In my mind they are very different things. Someone may choose to down size to get a little more performance and a slightly faster landing, that's different to pilot induced performance i.e swooping. And for arguments sake, here is the BMX equivalent of swooping :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8aSpdpOdPeg The more you downsize the more hp everything becomes! Yhe smaller you go the more you have to fly your parachute to the ground. Eventually you will have a hp approach weather you want it or not. Someone cuts you off, bad/unplanned landing pattern. You are gonna have to deal with the unperfect landing someday. Swooping isnt guessing you are at the perfect altitude when you start your turn. I start my turns from all kinds of different altitudes. Its about flying your canopy all the way to the ground and not just "i wont make any heavy turns under 2000". Flying your canopy and "swooping" are one in the same. A little downsize is whatever, you start getting aggressive with it, everything becomes hp, from openings, malfunctions, turbulence, and yes, landings too! Thanks for the video! Brought back a lot of good memories! But ill yell you this, ive built a ton of dirt jumps using refrigerators to take the edge off digging, ive over shot those landings, nose bombed and came down straight on top of my head and walked away with nothing more then a headache(no helmet). The only carnage ive seen from bmx in 14 years only compares to the people ive seen flying big a$$ student canopies flying straight in. Ive also broke my bike frame the same way as in the video too! Also, i noticed you didnt post your progression, how long in the sport? -

Honestly not trying to be an ass: Is a 1.5 wing loading on a Katana at 400 jumps really what people are considering conservative these days? While it certainly isn't the most aggressive downsizing I've ever seen, I wouldn't call it conservative by any stretch. You are right in my opinion... even the move before it, wingloading is ok but canopy choice is most definitely not! I think some people missed a bit of sarcasm about his downsizing. Haha, i was being a little sarcastic, but after posting right after popdoc's i look like a good boy. Haha -
I would have to assume 3 years from the time your uspa membership started.
