What do you like about canopy flight?
ridebmxbikes replied to ianyapxw's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
i love canopy flight! my favorite part is landings and i do a lot of hop and pops to practice drills up high and not be around anyone else. some say i do too many hop and pops, i say its because others don't do enough! be safe and get coaching! -
How do backflips affect free fall speed?
ridebmxbikes replied to davidg39's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Know what I'm doing next jump. just cannonball it straight out the door, hang on to your knees as tight as possible and see how long you can hang on! it really depends who does the flips, I'm a light ass and you won't see me lose any altitude relative to someone else in a quick backflip. if we have a 4 way with a backflip involved i have to slow down my flip so i can sink with everyone else. -
ok, ill bite. i received my A license in 23 jumps. no tunnel time. i blew threw my aff in 5 jumps after 3 tandems. did 1 coach jump and had my a license stamped off. took about 2 1/2 months. yes i did cut corners and skipped step. was it right? nope. started jumping a 135 at 30 jumps and was thrown onto 4-way scrambles at the same time and wasn't even the weak link with the lowest jump number besides me on my team was 500. but i also stayed jumping. if i only did 1 or 2 jumps a month theres no way i would've been able to pull that off. the 25 jumps give or take? i wouldn't put too much hope into the take part. uspa requires 25 jumps and the average on a good program that i see is 25-30 jumps. its not too often i see someone take 50 jumps to get it but i do see it happen. hope some of this helps!

What was your very first wing suit size.
ridebmxbikes replied to stayhigh's topic in Wing Suit Flying
I started on a birdman classic ( still on it ) with almost 400 jumps. The hardest part that I found was trying to not go low on everyone. I'm almost flying it in the stall position. I'm gonna attend my ffc next month and am excited about trying new suits! -
I don't always ask for logbook signatures but when I do I need 30 of them

New skydiver not feeling the 'it' factor
ridebmxbikes replied to InternetNinja's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Eh. You created a fantasy of skydiving in your mind that didn't match up to the reality. Keep jumping and figure out if you like what it actually is, or move on. It's not the end of the world. Spend your money and time elsewhere. Skydiving will still be around if you decide to try it again someday, and it (and your life) will go on if you don't. -
distance from the gates to...
ridebmxbikes replied to ridebmxbikes's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
ahhh i get what you are saying now. i was thinking you meant if you were already low with roll and an aggressive pitch to fix the roll. you are right though, you do have more power to correct the pitch if there is no roll. -
you do need a profile to post items and contact sellers, you just don't need to fill the profile out. when you check out their profile, look in the upper right hand corner and it tells you the date the profile was registered. if it was registered 3 days ago you may want to be slightly more cautious. if it was registered 5 years ago i really doubt a scam has been being prepped for that long.

distance from the gates to...
ridebmxbikes replied to ridebmxbikes's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
like I've said before, I'm really not worried about pushing it yet. just getting the feel for it right now... kinda like a new car before you go off drifting in it i would have to disagree on this part. i could be wrong or confused so correct me if i am. if you are low and you need to bail on something to not worry so much about the roll and level out the pitch. you can deal with the roll after you get back to a safe position. kinda like one would perform a ground carve? -

Just got it a 11am yesterday and only got 4 jumps in on it. I can get a video if you want but there won't be much to see, I still getting use to it and Im not trying to push it hard yet Ok can't figure out how to put a YouTube link but its dscf0109 about the 8th video down Third jump on it. The red flag is about 100 feet. I can feel I can get a crap ton more out of it. Just gettin the feel for it -

My apologies as well. I also didn't catch the sarcasm. It can be hard to catch in a written form sometimes. -

Oh, my bad, I only had that thing for 30 jumps. I have a katana 107 now. I came from a katana 120. -
distance from the gates to...
ridebmxbikes replied to ridebmxbikes's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Thanks doc, I wasn't even gonna respond to another negative comment. While I to try to set up my initiation to hit gates Im not concentrating on them through the swoop which is why I don't always hit them. Working on power and distance and most importantly staying alive and keeping my femors intact! I asked a simple question about distance from... Not a how to hit gates or how to anything.I appreciate the actual answer to the question I asked. Thanks! -

distance from the gates to...
ridebmxbikes replied to ridebmxbikes's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Haha, I take every course that becomes available. I'm always down for a course. I'm not gonna push getting the longest swoop and hitting the gates till I get use to this wing but I don't think it'll take that long. Hitting the gates isn't new to me. I can usually hit them... At least where I jump at. If I go somewhere else that would be a different story -

ridebmxbikes replied to ridebmxbikes's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Don't get to travel a lot. Work, jump too much to travel any so on. It would be a while before I had the chance to hit a pond but figured it could be a good goal to look forward to in the future. I guess I could ask my next canopy coach whenever he decides to do another course but I figured why not post in some forms and see if I could get a generalized answer. -

ridebmxbikes replied to ridebmxbikes's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
About to get a new(to me) canopy and was wondering. On a typical pond course how for is it from the gates to dry land ? And how far is the accuracy zone from the gates? I know they vary and you can make a target however far you want from the gates but was just wondering what the average was. -
What makes skydivers so different from whuffos?
ridebmxbikes replied to Guru312's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hell, I've already seen a couple people burn bridges at dropzones, houses, physical alterations and I've only been in the sport for two years. I do sense a special bond with jumpers though. Maybe because we all love to talk about skydiving so we all have an easy ice breaker and something in common. Maybe its because as students we hear of the special bond between skydivers so its programmed in our heads early on.
