Can anyone who has never skydived truly "understand" it?
Push replied to lawrocket's topic in The Bonfire
I know I'm pointing out the obvious, but bowling/golf won't kill you if you do them wrong. Anyway, I vote no. As was said, you can understand everything about skydiving but your perspective will be changed if you do a jump, which means that you did not understand it to begin with. Also, even though tandems are skydivers, they are not quite the same as an experienced jumper. To me, a "real" skydiver is someone who had exprienced what I call the click. It's the moment where you stop performing rehearsed motions in the air and start flying, when muscle memory stops being the only real method of teaching and becomes a tool. I think this is the reason for the popularity of freeflying, but I digress. Until you have manipulated the wind and felt one with it, I don't think you are a "real" skydiver, because you have not really experienced the sensation of flying. In no way does this mean that skydivers are better than other people. But I think it does mean that skydivers are different from a lot of other people. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. Heya all, I received an email from "service" about PayPal asking me to update my information. The email looked very legit, it had the logos, lots of graphics, everything. It had a link where I could update my information. On that link there was a form that also looked very very legit with places for me to fill out all information relevant to PayPal, such as my address and CC number. In fact, this form was probably copied from the PayPal registration page. Since the idea of me having to retype highly personal information for PayPal is ludicrous, I first checked the header of the email. Apparently, it was routed to me through some .edu domain, which is suspicious. Then, I noticed this. The link to the form I need to fill out looks like this: http://219.5.44.89:31337/Verify.htm. 31337? Eleet? They were clever up to this point. Please, please, do not fill out this form! If you did, cancel that credit card immediately! And never fill out any forms that request you to reenter any personal information for any webpage for any reason! For the nerds: ping resolves the ip as YahooBB219005044089.bbtec.net. tracert is practically useless. bbtec.net is in Japanese, but I sent abuse@bbtec.net an email anyway. Could someone run a global whois on bbtec.net? I'm not really into WANs and I'm not sure how to do it. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. In a hypothetically concrete situation, what if you met a really cool girl out of the blue on the internet? Furthermore, what if this girl told you that she really likes you? And what if she had a lot of qualities that you were looking for? Now, what if she lived 43 hours of non-stop driving away from you? This is definitely not what I was expecting to happen, and I'm confused I know there are some folks here who tried it. What can you say? -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy. When you exit, try exiting with your back to the prop and putting your legs all the way in to your chest, into sort of a ball with your arms out. This prevents the wind from catching your feet and giving you a cartwheel. You can fly this with your arms, do a 180 and geek the people still in the plane, for instance We call this a "ride the slide" exit in Canada, and it's really easy. You will probably end up on your back after you get to terminal. This is fine, it's because you were backflying on exit (think about it, it makes sense). Just go right ahead and sit up. Glad it helped. I would love to jump with you when I drop by Florida in about a month. -- Toggle Whippin' Yahoo Skydiving is easy.
