  1. http://www.kenoshaskydiving.com/ Why are skydiving businesses so weird about contact information? I've noticed a few dropzones that are not on google maps nor do their websites have an address or phone number to the actual dropzone. You just get directed to some adventure agency that books tandems all day. Are these just tandem mills that don't like fun jumpers? Why else would they make it so hard for someone to call them or have an address so people can come in to watch/check out the DZ?
  2. I get the part about following their rules when you're there, excepet I do think 4 years for THC possession is a case of the crime is the punishment. What is really the crime here? Taking a persons life, or experiemnting with a harmless substance? Keep in mind I don't smoke and wouldn't neccessarily recommend it, I just don't think it warrants the death penalty. But what really gets me is persecution of the innocent, I want to know that if I don't smoke marijuana or drink alcohol in their country that I won't be sent to prison. I get following their rules, I just want to make sure that they follow their own rules. I hate this whole mindset about they have rules and if you don't like it don't go, but what's the point if they don't follow their own rules and burn the innocent on the stake? If you don't have marijuana and are charged with possession what's the point of the rule?
  3. Yes people should pay their debts. However, it is ignorant to think that in every single situation it is immoral to not pay debt. Isn't it also unjust to trick someone into slave labor, indebt them and make it practically impossible for them to escape the country? Besides, it sounds like their government has no morals and is corrupt, I don't see the big deal with not paying the government back an excessive visa fee. It's worse to not pay a business a debt for a product or service because they engage in honest work to support themselves and their families. Whereas the government uses the money for oppression and severe punishment for minor non criminal behavior.
  4. I don't even think some of those athletes are athletic let alone the fans, mainstream American sports don't really require much physical effort.
  5. It's not hard at all. Just don't mention it, truth be damned. "heading out of town and seeing some friends" would work in a pinch depends where you work what you do, I just got my A license so it's harder to contain my enthusiasm and I just want to tell people. I haven't been judged by anyone at work... yet... btw, what's a wuffo?
  6. I've gotten judgmental comments from people who've done tandems themselves. It's like really? Did you just forget about your tandem excursion? Some people will definitely judge you, I never bring it up myself per se, but it's really hard to not mention it when someone at work asks you "so what are you doing this weekend?" You're freaking working all week can't wait to skydive and then someone asks you something like that it's hard not to reveal your adrenalin seeking behaviors! Then of course everyone at work knows what you do after that. In the grand scheme of things it really doesn't matter what people think about you as long as they are not in a position of power over you, if it's a co-worker or social acquant. it doesn't matter, but if they control your pay or something like that you gotta be careful with how you handle it.
  7. if they keep being such assholes over there nobody is going to want to visit their country.
  8. this thread won't go anywhere near it's potential without an anonymous post feature.
  9. where is this info from? 41K does not sound that high. Given I know quite a few folks in the 20K and 30K region and they are still reasonably young http://www.dkellner.info/DonKellner.html google Don Kellner if the link doesn't work. Granted this is from 2009 Guiness World Record book, though I imagine he still holds it. It says every skydive he makes is a world record, how badass is that? The important point still stands that this thread is promoting this psychological barrier thinking that we must have unlimited money and no job to achieve the success we want. See quote below. "Don Kellner is both an amazing skydiver and an amazing man. The fact that he was able to attain and maintain a skydiving world record on weekends and after work demonstrate his passion for the sport that can still be seen today if you come out and skydive. "
  10. why not have some common decency?
  11. The voices never go away : ) On the flight up you think this is so so stupid, so stupid stupid stupid. Then you fall out and start thinking YES YES YES!!!!
  12. well the world record is 41,000 jumps (in a lifetime), I believe the guy did most of those as a weekend warrior while holding a full time job, jumping after work and weekends. So stop making excuses and harden up!
  13. At my home DZ they have exceptions for unicycle riders since they are inherently such superior athletes
  14. Can you place a regular galaxy alti on a shoulder strap of a rig? I haven't seen any shoulder specific alti's on chutingstar so I'm wondering if you buy a special strap that attaches to a regular alti?
  15. Ya but that's different, I still think what tandem instructors have to do is harder.
  16. Ya I guess the HD would be good, but yea, he can't film anything worthy with 15 jumps other than a shaky horizon with maybe a couple of crappy ass clouds. How is this guy even logistically thinking about doing this I don't know. If you're an uncurrent AFF you have to do a coach jump at any respectable decent quality DZ. I've only been around a limited sample of 3 DZs but I just can't see any way in hell they'd let a student jump a camera anywhere because at the 3 I've been at that's been the culture. No camera for low experience jumpers!! EDIT: DZ'S WON'T EVEN LET STUDENTS JUMP IN THEIR NORMAL CLOTHES (STUDENT SUIT USUALLY REQUIRED EVERYWHERE), NO FANCY HELMETS OR GOGGLES, ETC... let alone a camera
  17. Omg that first attached pic is so good though, who cares about a tangle hazard when you can get shots like that!!!
  18. Wait you mean to tell me you don't want to hear some loud ass wind over some low ass quality footage of the horizon??!
  19. Why don't you just get a B license? With a B license you only need a jump once every 6 months to stay current. If you're so smart it should not be hard to get your B, all you need is 35 more jumps that's nothing. You could do that in 2 weekends and be done with it. Then you won't have to argue with people about currency requirements. And hopefully it will be humbling and you'll see why your position on camera flying is foolish
  20. Plastic surgeons perform operations, and they don't treat any diseases but still earn very high salaries. OB/GYN's deliver babies and provide counseling throughout pregnancy, likewise they don't log any sort of disease for their efforts. Good health is very dynamic, especially in the field of mental health. Whether or not you or the patient believe its a disease doesnt matter, you still spend the same amount of time with the patient, write the same length of a report, etc...
  21. I just wonder if you actually truly believe it's a disease deep deep down inside. I think you know the truth deep down but you'll never admit it.
  22. If you want to know why a forest is dying, you have to look at the trees. You will also always have a limited understanding of any forest you see... Yea those god damn details always get in the way of a narrow-minded world view
  23. It doesn't change what you said. It just shows you are being untruthful.
