I have a safire 149 (original MFG 2001 with spectra lines) in my second rig, and I'm having real problems with trying to get the thing to open soft. It has less than 100 jumps on it, so I think the lines are in trim. It also has the standard factory slider. Does anyone else have a safire that opens hard? I have tried rolling the nose 4+4, seems to make very little difference! when the canopy opens, there is just no snivel at all, the slider comes down immediately, not so good on the neck with a camera! Any help appreciated, Graeme

Anyone cut away and lose their main? Sabre in eBay
gmac324 replied to catfishhunter's topic in The Bonfire
That certainly isn't a sabre! It has thick dacron lines with weird attachments to the connector links, looks like F111 and has seperate stabalisers :-) -
Got a 120 main and a 126 reserve right now. Would buy a 107 main and 113 reserve in my next rig. But only if I could test jump the reserve a few times first and felt confident that it was big enough! Right now I feel comfortable with what I've got

Currently have an NJ with a PD126 and cypres 2 and a sabre2 135. It is extremely tight but does fit at a squeeze. I would not recommend it, I am currently looking into getting a new container for my canopies. Graeme

My advice would be sell the sabre2 and buy a safire/lotus/sabre or something else cheaper and similar performance at the same size if you are really short of cash. Why do you want a smaller canopy? Graeme

Thanks for all of your advice guys. I will stick with my 135 for the time being, until I have done lots of birdman jumps. Then I might consider buying a sabre2 120. I have realised jumping to a 107 is a silly idea and will likely end up in me hurting myself so I will stick with what I've got for now. Graeme

Think I might go with the 120 after doing some wingsuit jumps (30 or so) to get used to the openings first. Here in sunny scotland we still jump through the winter, although only 3 or 4 instead of 10 a weekend in the summer so should have them clocked up by mid march or so. I have just lost 18lbs of weight so my wingload on a 120 is not too different to what my 135 was about 8 weeks ago, which is why I was considering a 107. But I have decided skipping a size is a bad plan, and I can always get a 107 in a few more hundred jumps

Thanks for your help. Main intention in this forum was to check up on a highly loaded sabre2 and a wingsuit to see if it was a good combo. I will look into actually downsizing separatley and am in no rush to cause any harm to myself

I currently jump a sabre2-135, and was posting recently about possibly buying a crossfire2-119. I have decided that I going to buy a wingsuit this summer and do most of my jumping on that, so will stick with a sabre2. But I would like a smaller one. Used to load my 135 at 1.55 for 200 jumps, now load it at 1.41. I could get a 120 loaded at 1.6 but was leaning towards a 107 loaded at 1.75ish. Is it a really bad idea to skip sizes when downsizing, or should I look at getting a 120 first. I have no doubt that I could handle a 107, but I have also never seen anyone with a highly loaded sabre2 so wouldn't mind a few opinions. Was planning on doing 30 or so wingsuit flights with my 135 before considering changing canopies anyway, and thought that a small sabre2 would have more suitable opening characteristics than a crossfire 2. Thanks, Graeme

Only seen 2 at St Andrews so far, Dave West and Vicky Wilkinson both have 109's. How many are at Strathallan , Andrew Hilton mentioned someone having a 99? I managed to get a 119 crossfire 2 from icarus with 300 jumps and a new set of vectran lines on it. Been a factory demo for the last 6 months so I got a good deal. Should be jumping it at the start of next year

doesn't do anything when I go to the link, no popup

does maddy have anything bigger than a 119? would be keen on a 129 first, that is the same wing load as my sabre 2. Not that unobservant to not notice it

I jump all year round, normally at least 3 or 4 a weekend, but up to 10 a weekend in the summer. I really dislike the stiletto's short recovery arc, and feel less happy swooping it, than my sabre 2. The stiletto is just a loan from an instructor to get used to flying an elliptical before trying anything smaller. All I need to do now is find a demo crossfire 2 Pretty impossible in the uk.
