OK Ill play devil's advocate here. I have 2 close DZO friends who have had 2 TI's open up competing businesses at the same airport after working for them for several years. These individuals were successful also in luring away other staff and using the successful business model the original DZO had created. The DZO community is small and when stories like these surface, operators take measures to protect what they've invested and how they provide for their families.

Moving from Tandem DVDs to Tandem USBs
skydiveoc replied to tkhayes's topic in Photography and Video
Seems like when 5g hits...the need for removable media will go the way of the need for horseshoes for you mode of transportation. -

Get a tandem rating and a double go pro "selfie" glove. :) -
Are we still burning DVD's? UStream anyone?
skydiveoc replied to skydiveoc's topic in Photography and Video
At .20 a dvd and 2 gb thumbs at $3, it seems we're still going the route of giving the student removable media, dvd more than thumbs. Seems so old school now. Has anyone made use of UStream or its competitors as a media delivery source instead of DVD's? -
Fool you into wearing Mr Baggy the they arch like a wet noodle. Break out the dead spider hand signal!

We dumped all of our SanDisk micros and went higher end. Our comp guy recommended Samsung.

Love when that happens in the door or on jump run.Quote

New action cam model from Sony , AS100V

We had the same problem w/ hero 3's. Dumped the SanDisk cards for Samsung and format in camera everyday. No more corruption. -

20 years doing tandems and Im just now getting fed up with spit / snot on my face! I'm looking at a G3 or the new bonehead Aero...Quote -
Houston…we have a problem. The DZ has a huge bug with corrupt micro sd card message. Sometimes, the footage is unreadable. Have had to take to local computer mad scientist to recover data. Happpening to various videographers, different sticks, brands. All class 10 or better. We replaced all cards, sd card readers, had puters wiped and we were good for about 2 days. But…its baaaaack. Any one else having an issue? We have been running good for over 2 years with these cameras, Hero 3 Silvers.

New DZ needs to set up video editing.... Help!
skydiveoc replied to jimradzik's topic in Photography and Video
There was a time before Sandy Bridge when HD cameras were the rage but processors couldn't handle them. We offered Raw as an easy way to "self edit". And…you could put your own music on while we had to stick to royalty free stuff. So they weren't getting raw without an explanation. They could choose edited but it would have to be mailed. We do use Swoopware now and yes it comes out nice. However lots of people are requesting raw now so they can Vine it and manipulate it the way they want. We put it on a thumb drive for them. -
Who has the hot tip skinny contact on the cheapest 1 or 2 gig thumb drives?

New DZ needs to set up video editing.... Help!
skydiveoc replied to jimradzik's topic in Photography and Video
DSE's set up is sweet. Other nice ones include Swoopware and Perigrine Video from Perris Valley. Doug and the guy from Peregrine are always at PIA and seems to have it dialed in. These are the way to go if you don't have time to devote to learning and paying for an editor. In my opinion, hiring a local college kid who knows NLE is a waste of time. Peregrine has a pay for video option. Basically $1 per video I think, and all editing is done via internet. Or…go with raw footage. We did that for a whole season while we were in between decisions. -
Hey guys, Would like to pick one of these up for ground shots, landing shots. Looking for ease of use, widest lens, good burst rate, reasonable in price, good, not best, quality image. Wont be used in the air. DSE: I can't remember if u use an NEX or A5000?? Thanks

I dunno…seems like $1000 is swing and a miss strike three these days.

replacing / repairing factory tandem parts
skydiveoc replied to skydiveoc's topic in Gear and Rigging
How do we find out if it is part of the TSO? A reserve is obviously TSO'd but a MR can replace a component (line segment or toggle) of the item with like materials and engineering? I guess my question is when are the components part of the TSO? Quote -
replacing / repairing factory tandem parts
skydiveoc replied to skydiveoc's topic in Gear and Rigging
So...we are not supposed to use non/factory parts like third party risers, drogues etc. But where is the line drawn? A master rigger can repair / replace a container flap, reserve line, manufacture a drogue kill line but not a drogue, he can manufacturer and replace reserve and main closing loops but not risers? Thoughts? Specifically I was looking to replace my bungee recoils on my sigma. Seems simple but legal? -
We have a gal who does this for us as well. Anyway, she is on a dance team with my daughter. We go to competitions and they have spec pics to sell of the competitors on stage. I busted her snapping secret screen shots with her phone! Hahaha. I try to buy em if I can...support the industry I guess.

Have your friends randomly start puking on you and have 15 great answers to the question" "Do I put my goggles on now?"
-
Just get the students to back out ;) and mount the camera to the yoke pointing out the door. No more issues with the stability now than with your garmin! Of course the whole potential of a reserve pin snag might cause some concern to the TM's Remember skydiving priorities! 1.Get a good shot, 2. have fun 3. be safe.

My wifi remote worked to activate my hero 3 mounted on an inspection plate. Video and Still shots were great. My IA asked me to remove it though. There is a mount system for struts that would be more FAA friendly and they were selling them at oshkosh. Google oshkosh strut mount and you see it. Basically 2 fiberglass C clamps with plastic wingnuts.

Action cameras setup for tandem video and stills
skydiveoc replied to OG-Tahiti's topic in Photography and Video
Ive been shooting handy as long as it has been around and regular outside vid since hi 8. I'd get two double GP sets per TM, FunJump makes a sweet swivel mount. Shoot every student, drop the glove to show vid and pics and take up the second on the turn. You can count on 30% add on percentage easy. Should have a 70-80% media rate. Also better get a few extra cameras for the airplane. GP's sometimes get cranky and lock up. Better just to swap out in the plane than to scramble trying to get the battery out or in airplane format. Keep em charged and in the glove box...and an on the go charger too! -
New firmware update for the black due on the 2nd april
skydiveoc replied to spencer's topic in Photography and Video
Can you share what this "file" is? Having the same issues with a Hero 2 recently switched to a class 10 card and firmware update. Lots of blank files and re-arranging files making it a nightmare for the editor once there are 6 or 7 tandems on it.
