At what point of the deployment do the risers come out?
Safelandings replied to Safelandings's topic in Gear and Rigging
That's a good video, you can see that the risers begin to come out when the slider catches air. Nice shot of line twist too. Thanks -

Tkanks for your reply. Thats good to know. I wasn't sure if I needed to make my line stows tighter to pull risers out before they unstowed. Thanks again -
At what point of the deployment do the risers come out?
Safelandings replied to Safelandings's topic in Gear and Rigging
I just recently received my own gear and started packing for myself. I notice after packing when I'm pulling it apart to do it again that I pull the bridle releasing the closing loop, pulling the bag out, lines unstow, canopy comes out, pilot chute collapses, THEN the risers are pulled through the magnetic risers. I know they say you want full line extension before the canopy is released from the bag, but does this include the risers? This all happens so fast during free fall that I never noticed at what point do the risers come out. -
Good to know. I find that the rig is a great fit but very stiff right. Thanks

Going over the slinks isn't a problem. It's the riser itself. It seems to be about on 1/8" wider then the grommet hole. At this time I might not bother pulling it down until it will benifit me. Didn't realize that at my canopy size and wing loading I woulndn't benifit from pulling it down right now. It's just that I wanted what I paid for, the ability to pull it down if I choose to. And at this time I can't. The grommets are too small.

I took Brian Germain's canopy coarse last summer.understood that it would not obstruct my view, will flatten the canopy a bit more, makes you more a part of the suspension of the canopy rather then hanging below the "triangle" now your inside the triangle, it reduces the chance slightly of getting line twists, you get more lift and performance out of the outer ends of the wing. I completely understand that I would need to watch for other canopies, that a given! Just trying to get the most out of my canopy.

I guess if the risers were used for a while they would get softer and might make it easier. I haven't jumped it yet. I hope the whole rig softens up quickly. It stiff as hell. And I'm still practicing packing. Can't get that slippery shit in the bag. Thanks for your thoughts guys

How long did it take them to make your new rig?
Safelandings replied to crwslut's topic in Gear and Rigging
Same as Katzas. 12 weeks for my custom NeXgen. -
I just received my new NeXgen and a Pilot 188. During ordering I was talking to the sales person at ChutingStar about different options for holding the slide down once I pull it down the risers. But the issue is it doesn't fit down any further then just below the slinks. I emailed ChutingStar about this and asked if there are different size grommets. She said no there isn't, that there are all a standard size and I just needed to pull them hard to get it down. That's not going to happen. If I really pull I can get it to the toggles and there's no way it going over them especially when stowed. Any ideas or opinions on this.

How should a jump suit with booties fit?
Safelandings replied to Safelandings's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've resently received a Majik suit with large booties nut not realy sure how it should fit. When it's on with shoes standing straight up the booties are very lose. Only when I arch with bent knees and point my toes out do the booties become tight. Does anyone have photos of their suit on while standing to see how it should fit. I think mine may be too long. Anything helps at this point, alcohol or not. Thanks -
Looking for photos of a Majik suit.
Safelandings replied to Safelandings's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It's really hard to tell what this suit looks like. The only photo on their site is very dark and blurry. Can anyone post some photos. Maybe with detailed shots of the different options. Very hard to order something when you don't know what it looks like. -
Looking for the NEEDS and DON'T need in a RW suit
Safelandings replied to Safelandings's topic in Gear and Rigging
My weight is 170 I'm just getting into doing formations with groups between 4-8 jumpers My fall rate isn't a problem, I seem to be able to stay with the group. Not thinking of competitions as of now but they do have some through out the summer that I could join but nothing serious. I do enjoy doing track jumps -

How do you find your cut away canopy
Safelandings replied to Safelandings's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've thought about this a lot since I just put my order in for my own gear. Is the some king of GPS chip you can have put in your riser somewhere so after you cut away you can find your canopy? Where I jump there is some areas of field, bush, water and suburbs. How do you find your canopy? That would really suck to cut away a fairly new canopy and not find it.. Kelly -

Looking for a detailed packing video
Safelandings replied to Safelandings's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I now have 82 jumps and just put my order in for an Icon neXgen and a Pilot main. I've been renting the whole time and only packed 3 times. I have seen videos on you tube on packing and some are good but is there anything really good that shows detailed shots of packing. I know Everyone probably thinking I should get packing lessons, and I will be. Just want to become very familiar with everything before I get some lessons. Thanks Kelly -
The reason I asked this question was because I assumed that if it offered the altimeter as a visual with free fall alarms, I assumed the alarms would be loud enough. I've never heard one go off so had no idea how high pitched it was. I also would have though that in the description, it would have stated that to hear free fall alarms in free fall it needs to be mounted on the helmet. And for those of you who posted helpful comments and jumped to my defence before I had see the posts, I thank you. I realize that this sport can be dangerous. I try to learn as much as possible so that I can make it safer for everyone who jumps with me. Which is why I ready throw tons of posts and ask question when I'm not sure about something. Even though I got my A licence I still see myself as a student, but a good student who wants to do this for along time. I still rent my gear but I do have a helmet which I researched before I bought and now working toward the altimeter. And when I have the money for a canopy, I'll be asking questions on hear and to others at my DZ before I come to a final decision. So for those who seemed to forget what it was like when they started. When they didn't know everything they do to day. When someone posts something because they don't know the answers you don't need to make them feel like an idiot. Because in my eyes the idiots are the ones who don't ask. Thanks Kelly

Thanks for your comment, it was really useful.... First off, when you read posts you should read ALL the words because if you would have, you would know that I didn't purchase one yet. If you would have read the posts correctly you would see that I'm asking questions to do some research ahead of time before I buy one. And secondly, I will study how to use it but that's usually a lot easier if I had actually bought one first. And as for the size of the canopy, I know I use a Pilot 188. But when people ask what size I use I round it up to 190. Again thanks for your post. It was really helpful

Yes, it was on his wrist. So I would need to put it inside my helmet to hear it in free fall, but if on the wrist I would only hear it under the canopy? Do you think I would be able to hear it under the canopy even if I had the ear plugs in too under my helmet?
-
I would assume he did because he would be looking at it upside down if it wasn't right. It was on his left hand. As I said we usually wear ear plugs under the helmet but not on this jump. Do you have it on or in your helmet?
-
I was really considering the N3. But a friend of mine received his and we jumped together on a couple of two ways and neither of us could hear they alarms go off. He wasn't sure if he had it set right on the first jump so he went through it and thought it was good to go. So on the second jump we stayed docked together while the alarms were supposed to go off and still didn't hear anything. We both have G3 helmets and wear foam ear plugs normally but not on these jumps. Is this altimeter loud enough? Or is it possible that he didn't have it set right? Now I'm not sure if I should go with the N3 audio instead? What are your experiences with this product?
