I am a low time jumper (170 jumps). So far I have jumped at 6 different DZ's (including WFFC) and figured out a good method when going to a new DZ. Get a briefing about canopy skills, and freefall with lots of others in the air before jumping. There will be lots of very fast canopies and hook-turners, and people with 500 jumps that have worse canopy skills than you at 50 jumps. You will need to say away from all of them. When you get there... 1. Figure out the flow of manifest & general DZ oper. 2. Take a good look at an arial DZ photo with someone familiar with the DZ. Make sure you know all hazards in case you have to land off. 3. Watch a few loads land before jumping 4. If you have any safety concerns, ask someone. 5. Pay attention to the weather. You may have stay on the ground while others are jumping in high winds. Don't get on the plane just because everyone else is jumping. Make your own decisions based on your experience. If you don't know...ask. You will find once you get there everything will be fine providing you are a "heads up" skydiver. You will meet lots of cool people to ask questions that may arise while you are there. Good luck, have fun, and be safe....

Dominican Republic Boogie - Fly in the soup
no7rosman replied to narcimund's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I talked to someone who attended and met Eugene Matos. There were 7 jumps made during the boogie from a military CASA(2 the first day, nothing the second, 3 the third, and I am not sure when they flew the other two) There was no reason given as to why the plane stopped flying. Their money was refunded as promised. Eugene told this guy when they arrived that our checks had been mailed. We have not received them yet. 24 other people were there from all over the world. The person I talked to got a hotel after the second night and stayed at a resort the rest of the time in DR. There was a demo jump and the president was there, and when all of the people (including DR Military Officers) lined up to give the President their gifts, and he got in his helecopter and flew away leaving them all standing there. The boogie was bad, but they ended up enjoying their vacation in DR. Don't worry...I put the original posting on here about the boogie, and talked a bunch of my friends into going. I will take the heat if there is any. We knew it was a risk when we signed up. -
Dominican Republic Boogie - Fly in the soup
no7rosman replied to narcimund's topic in Events & Places to Jump
We spent the week in Coolige instead of risking this boogie, but here is what it is going on. Very disturbing. This is "hearsay" for right now...I have not personally talked Randy, but did talk to the guy who came home. Two days before the boogie Eugene sent a different letter saying it was not cancelled and the Islander has been confirmed. Three people from our group decided to go and try it, only to find out it was completely cancelled when they got there. There was nobody there. One of them turned around and came home the following day costing him 600.00. The other two didn't have the money to change the ticket and have been stuck there all week due to the in-flexibility of American Airlines and their ticketing policy. I heard they made two jumps from the islander all week. I did not reschedule another flight and lost the money for my ticket from Miami to DR (368.00). We have not recieved any money back from the people who were collecting our boogie fee. (285.00). Since my flight from Denver to Miami was using United Miles, it cost 75.00 to put those miles back. Since I have not talked to Randy (he was stuck there all week) personally about this situation, I am not going to write any slander towards these people.... yet. I wrote a letter to the organizer saying I wanted 100% of my boogie fee returned, and told him I would make sure no other skydivers fall victim to this elaborate scam, and he replyed saying he would seek legal action if I tried to destroy their "good name". My opinion....The boogie is not a hoax as it has been going on for years...Something went bad where we could not use the CASA's, and the boogie was cancelled. As of now we have lost all of our money. I am still hoping for 75% of our boogie fee back that was promised by the organizer, but I am not holding my breath. I will post more when I find out the exact details from Randy when he gets home. narcimund -- any news? -
Bush...(George) Is gonna get us all killed!!!!
no7rosman replied to no7rosman's topic in The Bonfire
UNITED NATIONS (Jan. 22) - France, Germany, Russia and China have made it clear they will not be rushed by Washington's timetable for war against Iraq, despite threats by the White House to move against Saddam Hussein without their approval. How many people think we should attack Iraq no matter what the UN resolution. How many think we have reason to attack? I think Bush needs to be caged... -
I thought that was your "taint"?

Coolidge is offering 13$ jumps from Mullins King Air until March I think. He goes to 13-14k. Not a bad deal there either. In fact I am going back in a couple weeks.

News Dominican Republic Airforce Boogie

Demo Jump. I recieved an email from them asking me to bring our country flag to jump. Since this is a huge event for the DR, the President and some of their dimplomats will be attending. I don't want to jump a flag this early in my skydiving career, so I mentioned it to Ralph and Randy, DZO's of Denver Skydivers. They have a 2000' sq ft American Flag that they love to fly. It was jumped on two demo's at Rantoul last year. check out a pic http://www.denverskydivers.com/htmls/et.html (The picture is not Rantoul) They will be attending the boogie and jumping their flag with a huge audience. Right on Ralph and Randy!!!!!!...Hope you don't get shot down -
It is not the USPA's responsibility to develop third party software and give it to members for free. Software development is very expensive. I am not a fan of the USPA and all their freaken fees and dues either, but nobody should expect them to develop software for free. Buy a book you would be suprised how fast you could learn to do it yourself on your home pc.

All and all I am not a big fan of any organized religion. Especially the mormons after hearing they have to give 10% of wage and show finacial proof. Different strokes for different folks!!!! Can't hold it aginst them as long as they don't bother me with it.

Her family was pretty normal. You couldn't really tell anything about JW in general conversation. My x used to tell me all the people in their congregation would talk bad about her mom if they knew she came to my apartment and we were here together without supervision. My x's mom never pressured her about it and everything was fine. But then her aunt started pressuring her and my girlfriend stopped coming to my house. Her aunt wanted us to only have supervised visits. She said ok I said NO WAY and now she is my x.

I don't think so. My last girlfriends mom was JW. I don't think she had any diet.

Dominican Republic Air Force Boogie - Anyone been there?
no7rosman replied to no7rosman's topic in Events & Places to Jump
A little more info about accomodations. The guy said all people attending the boogie are treated like officers. Sleep in officers barraks, food, etc. It sounds like the low jump numbers were before the CASA's. He said there were people making 8 jumps per day. I can handle that. -
Jumping at high MSL vs. low MSL
no7rosman replied to no7rosman's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If your home DZ is close to sea level...What did you think the first time you jumped at a DZ that was above 4000 MSL. I have seen a lot of people who come to our DZ (4200 MSL) come in pretty hard. (Usually a late or incomplete flare) Any preferences? -
Don't forget they were talking about gays. Think of your sphyncter. OUCH!!!!!
-
Don't forget...some of us are fast!!! It may not take a lot of stamina.
-
Very well stated. I also don't agree with choosing to be gay because it is cool. I didn't know that %

Dominican Republic Air Force Boogie - Anyone been there?
no7rosman replied to no7rosman's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Hey...thanks for the good information. The guy emailed me today and said their last boogie, most people did 16 jumps (the whole week) and the fast packers did 25. For 6 days Do you know if they are jumping funky rigs that take a long time to pack or something? How about the Hueys? He said they have two that may be flying. I am not prissy and the accomodations will be fine I think. It looks as if the the base is in the jungle. Is that right? Real honestly I am not real excited to pay 1000 for 25 jumps. I have bought my tickets so I am kind of commited. Your post is uplifting...I just cannot go with the thought of cranking jumps. Thanks -
Am I for real...yes Am I sarcastic....yes I really don't give a crap what other people do. Like I said...one of my best friends is "married" to another guy. I hung out with them at the DZ for 2 years before I knew they were gay.(Yeah...I am from Iowa - no gaydar) Anyway their gayness is not an issue because they are both such great people. They make gay jokes. They make racial jokes. Just like everyone in the world...Jokes are funny. That is why we tell them. I don't believe in hurting other peoples feelings unless they truely deserve it, but I don't hang out with people who can't take a joke.
-
First I would like to say I have nothing aginst gay dudes who still act like normal people. One of my closest friends is gay.(No...I am not) But now they are starting kids out early with gayness it seems. What is next...Will they start marketing Ken to the little boys and barbie to the girls. The next generation will be 50-50 gay/strait and the one after that will 70-30. Holy shit!!!! Is there something wrong with me. Why do I love the female species so much????

IS that GOOD or BAD
