On a recent jump, one of my lines was cut when it snagged on something sharp at the landing site. I have just replaced it but was interested in knowing what length I should replace it with. The canopy has around 100 jumps on it, so there will be some stretching of the Dacron lines already. The obvious choice is to replace it with a line of equal length to the other side.... However, I also know that lines stretch a bit after the first couple of jumps. In the end I made it 1cm shorter than the other side. Has anyone else been in this situation.

It was good seeing you out there Douggs. Martin Rosen from Team Bautasten was also flying some new pants which he made and making it to the landing area also. Its great to see tracking growing again in 2004. Meeker

Not to my knowledge. I think there is plans to make a bigger jump in Russia at the end of next week. This is mentioned at www.jumptower.com

I was going to Italy (from the UK) last September and was told by Ryanair that they do not allow parachutes as hand-luggage because of the risk of the Cyprus activating. They tried to stop me, but I explained it was a Base rig and they let me go. Its always worth playing the no-Cypes thing as an argument. Meeker

I saw the Sugar Glider last summer in Norway. Shaun who designed it was not particularly interested in making it a business. It was a personal project. Is he now making them, or did u jump one of the prototypes? Meeker

I saw this suit in Norway when Shaun was testing it last summer. He designed this suit specifically because he wants to jump Table Mountain in South Africa. From what I have heard, this Base jump is little more than a go and throw. Shaun wants a floaty suit so that he can outfly the first bit. If he does, then he has several thousand feet of freefall to play with. This is what I remember from conversations with him. The suit is very professionally made. Meeker

Cheers for the info folks. I asked for a quote from Narda for one of these devices and they were not prepared to quote me because I was a not a professional and could not probably afford one. $1800! True, but I just found one on Ebay for $160. Do a send a snotty email or not? Meeker

This is mainly for opening up new stuff which has a lot of shit hanging off it. I want something which is hand-held and will tell me when its dangerous where-ever I am on the A (except in FF of course!) I like the Narda kit because its designed specifically for engineers working on masts.

I have been doing some research to see how dangerous A's are. So far I have bought a hand-held frequency counter to let me know if there is any high RF, but I wanted something more accurate and I came across this radiation safety monitor: http://www.narda-sts.com/en/produkte/nardalertradman.htm Does anyone bother with this sort of thing? I am particularly interested in opening up new stuff without getting cooked. Meeker

I did the FJC at Kjerag under Chris and JJ a few years ago and it was fantastic. Since then, the pendulator has arrived and it adds a lot of value. Personally, I prefer a large cliff to a bridge for a first jump simply because, the rock drop is 12-14 seconds. New River Gorge has 8 seconds. Last year I saw a group of people from Brasil doing their FJC at Kjerag. One chap did his first few jumps well, then on this 3rd jump, he went unstable and pulled after 8 or 9 seconds. Had this been a bridge, would it have been different? Meeker

I am also a Birdman Intructor based at Target Skysports, Hibaldstow, Lincolnshire. It is strongly recommended that on your first dive, you jump with a BMI to provide support and safety. A first jump covers instruction (typically 30 - 45mins), suit hire, video and a first jump with myself. I do not charge for my instruction, all I ask is that my slot is covered and I get a cup of tea. For directions, goto www.skydiving.co.uk or send me a message. Simon

Yeah I use a Dainese Safety Jacket also. It does make your rig a much tighter fit, but it does feel comfortable. I have not needed it in anger as yet. The other problem is that when u have done a jump, the stash bag (I have a standard BR model) is overflowing with canopy and armour. Meeker

This year the Kjerag Heli boogie runs from the 18th to the 20th June. The Voss boogie is on afterwards from the 22nd to 27th June. I know the drive is 4-5 hours. Is anyone planning on going to both? Meeker www.basekjerag.com www.ekstremsportveko.com

My old man introduced me to climbing when I was a kid, then I got into Skydiving at University then BASE a few years after. But I always had the potential to BASE. When I was kidda, apparantly I watched black and white superman on the tele. When the show was finished, I would climb the stairs in the house and jump trying to fly. My Mum had to ban me from watching Superman as her friends were starting to get suspicious of my bruises! Meeker

I had my first WS reserve ride in October last year. I was jumping a Stiletto 120 as I had done on many jumps before. The malfunction was a spin-up. The reserve was a Transfair 128. Meeker

I jump the Dainese Safety Jacket and love it. Its very comfortable. The only down side is that it does generate extra heat, however I think they all do that. Meeker

I'm going to be in Holland during the weekend of the 6/7th December and a couple days either side probably. I would like to hook up and do some jumps with some of the locals there. Is that possible? If you need some references, Vrank Le Poole knows me from the adventures in Russia. Drop me an email to meeker_boy@lycos.com Thanks, Meeker.

Hi, I am putting together a video of my exploits from 2003 and am looking for the soundtrack from the short 4 min video called GATO.wmv. Is it Norweigan or Swedish and where can if find it from? Thanks, Meeker

Congrats on the reserve ride. I also had my first BM mal recently. I had a spinetto! I chopped with my wings in place and dumped my reserve as normal. I think I had a reserve for 2K Meeker

if i learn to fly a suit in the US can i then jump one in the UK?

Craig is a BM-I at Langar, I am a BM-I at Hibaldstow. The Chief Centre Intructor here follows the 500 jump limit (he has done a fair bit of WS also). He has let some people do it with less (375 >), however this has been because he knew them well over a period of years and they had done some WS at another DZ. A bit harsh. My personal feeling is, that I would want to see someones attitude and skills in a skydive first before taking them on if they had less than 500 jumps. Meeker BM-I
