  1. I don't always get a gear check. Stories like the one Bill Von tells scare me. I came from a dz that had a kingair where we sat on the floor and I don't think I received a pin check ever. I now get a pin check if its someone I know and I trust. On the other hand if I'm not confortable with someone checking my gear I don't let them mess with it. I don't think that its any safer going out the door wondering what the hell they were doing back there.
  2. you need to keep posting, after you post enough times the newbie thing will go away. Prim-8s Rock
  3. I have some friends that would like to have a pickup 4way team for Nats. I thought people interested could make themselves available here. Is anybody interested in 8,10,16way?
  4. I notice that you don't like to be honest with us since you have posted 2 different exit weights, but I will be honest with you. If you really want to do FF and RW proficiently you really need 2 suits. My 2cts
  5. I don't know if you are still looking at this thread but take a minute to absorb what they are saying. The tempo 150 doesn't bother me but the 135 is a little small. When your on final and someone cuts you off there is no substitute for experience. I won't lecture any more than that, but I will tell you I had over 500 jumps before I broke my femur and I thought I was ready for what I was doing. Maybe you won't make any mistakes like I did. All I know is after 6mos of rehab and 11 weeks off of work it changed my attitude about some things. My new attitude is "I checked my pride at the ER room". There is a whole lot of thought that needs to be given when choosing both of your canopies. Nobody could have talked me out of what I was doing at the time, good luck be careful.
  6. You know when you get to altitude in the desert it kinda looks green. Besides how often do you look down during a jump anyways.
  7. So you don't want to hear about the nice weather at PVS right now, or about the bigways going on. OK I won't remind you of that, I want you to know that it will be in the mid90s this weekend in Eloy with light winds. I'm probably not even going to jump, of course the weather will be the same next weekend when I do. Have a nice day.
  8. It depends on the group I'm jumping with, the more people there are the more I look aroung to see where and what others are doing. I usually reach up for my rear risers and worry more about what is going on around me.
  9. Big Vibes my friend, I hope you both heal very soon. Someday soon we'll have to ccompare note and scars
  10. My rig came in 7 weeks and they had quoted me 8. I've had my rig a year and a half, and when I jump somebody elses rig that doesn't have the cut in laterals I notice the difference. I'm not saying the difference affects my performance, I just notice the rig moving on my back. I love my Odyssey it was every penny, which by the way was less than a wings
  11. I've jumped Tri's from 190 to 135. They have great consistent openings. They are rock solid in the air and easy to pack. They won't teach you how to swoop, but they aren't a bad way to go when starting out. Saying all that I have recently switched to a xfre. My 2cents
  12. If this is your first class it might not be so much about what you learn, it might be more about learning how to learn. If at all possible try to be patient with regards to your learning curve, make your expectations resonable. Bikerbabe is right don't worry about flaring too high and looking like a rookie, I use to worry about accuracy and that caused me to make the wrong decisions. If your set up is off remember you can do it again. My femur has just healed be careful.
  13. I just flew through PHX last week. Look at the USPA website. I followed there advice and had no problems. I traveled with my rig in a plain suitcase with no markings. I made sure I didn't pack a hook knife or a closing tool. I did make sure I had a pull up cord in case I needed to close my rig back up. I waited for the line at the TSA to dry up and I went through. I quietly told the TSA that I had a parachute in the bag. They didn't give me any trouble and commented on my cooperation. I printed out all of the info on the uspa site and put it in my bag, but I never needed to explain anything. Good Luck
  14. Well I would be upset about this but I'm leaving in the morning to go jumping for a week. So I might not see the picture of skybytch's ass, helmet, rig, rack, and or grippers, but Wednesday morning on jumprun I'll be over it.
  15. It does sound pretty fair. I am flying out of Phoenix next week, we'll see how easy it goes. I'm going to print out all of that info and have it with me.
  16. Andi and Christy, I just got a PM from Lori. I feel so bad for you Andi. I was at Elsinore, I should have stayed like you asked Andi. Unfortunately we now have something else in common. My tidbits of advice are use the morphine drip as much as possible, seriously they have it set up so you can't over medicate. I didn't hit my button more than twice because I didn't want to abuse it, since I wasn't using it alot they came in the third day and took it away. I went from morphine to vicadin which in my opinion are placebos. You already know about this site which I joined afterward, it helped me with my sanity. I and sending alot of vibes. Get well soon my friend so we can fly again. Ken
  17. I don't know but Arizona's is 300, probably won't be broke for awhile
  18. I am proud to say I've jumped with Dilys a couple of times. One time she said to me "I don't know what I'm going to do". I asked her what was wrong what did she need. She told me " well I can't jump forever and I don't know what I will replace it with"Dilys had a great attitude and her landings are kind of funny too.
  19. big vibes to Lew and Cajones. She is lucky to have a skydiver close to her, it is one less person she will have to explain why or how to.
  20. My opinion would be if you quit you will just end up doing something like this. I use to race cars all of the time, it took up 45+ weeks a year. Now I skydie all the time. If I wasn't doing this I would be doing something else like it. It seems to me that you need to ask yourself what you are going to do instead of skydive, if the replacement answer is good for you then give it a chance. If its not going to work for you then you have to make a tougher choice. Another way I look at this situation is I would hate to look back someday and say I wish I had of done this or that. Good Luck!
  21. No, but does it make more sense to put a tandem up by itself with no fun jumpers. The higher prices lesson the incentive to jump during the week. If you use the theory that the cost of running the place is the same all the time, why do they charge more on the weekends. It would seem that they should be able to charge less on the weekend because of the increased activity. I love PVS and visit them often this is definately disappointing.
  22. As everyone knows by now, one ti rod in my femur and some screws to keep it there.
  23. I know there's other kingairs out there and its not as if I can't jump an otter at Eloy, those pics of everybody jumping from Mike's plane just reminded me what a great time I am missing.
  24. Thanks alot Rhino, I was OK with not being there until you showed me that awesome kingair. I like to ride with mike as much as you do.
