etc. Yeah I know they're not too cool, but I'm just looking for something simple. And I don't see why they're girly. They're skydive-y The "pin check anyone?" is nice too, I just don't like yellow tees. Definitely the best ones are freefly t-shirts... I just have to be a freeflyer first to have a right to wear'em

Which tee is better? I wanna buy one, browsed through some e-shops and the choice sort of boiled down to these two. Plus: if you happen to own a nice skydiving t, plz share the idea

Skydiving: How Old Then, How Old Now?

ROFLMFAO I was thinking of employing one of the "melodies" as a means of waking myself up in the morning... My problem of ignoring the alarm would disappear the very next day This one?

CNN got a hold of my story... I DID IT! I left my wheelchair behind
Frodo replied to Rebel's topic in The Bonfire
Bravo Art, that thing was fantastic, thanks for what you're doing! I hope this kind of coverage by CNN of this kind of achievment will have the same effect as the Point Break movie and Bush's skydive had had before - it will inspire more people to fall out of the skies! On a side note, which was more exciting - jumping outta plane or being interviewed nationwide? ... just kidding Way to go! -
I had an idea on how to decorate my future rig... but since I'm not buying a rig in he near future, you can have my idea for free

I'm not very familiar with english-speaking humourists/comedians, and I'm feeling like downloading funny stuff to listen. Can you name any notable ones? I don't want goofy humour, or those who act stupid or make farting sounds etc., but rather some "serious" stuff. Politics and such. I believe Bill Maher and Dennis Miller are examples of what I'm looking for, but since I've seen each of them only 1-2 times, I can't be sure. Ellen de Generes was quite funny too (on HBO). She talked about "everything and nothing" but it was quite funny. So... any help would be noice. Oh, and shows like the Daily Show w/ Jon Stewart and especially Trigger Happy TV crack me up too.

I browsed through ~1,000 most recent threads and haven't found a poll quite like this one, so: * Which container are you using? (sorry if I missed a couple in my list) * Please upload a couple of pictures of your rig. I'm sure everyone will enjoy comparing each other's weird/cool designs, options, etc. * What are the major pro's and con's of your rig? * Let's say your rig is stolen. Which one would you buy next? Same? Another, but from same manufacturer? Or something else? (I have nothing to post myself cos I don't own a rig ) Tanks

New Skydiver's Question...About Reserve Chute
Frodo replied to Kramer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hmm, so far you're the record-holder in this thread. About 1 chop every 120 jumps?... 4-0 for me... Proud to be a member of the "zero silvers" club, if you will -
HowStuffWorks (and check out the "lots more information" part )

Yeah, I was thinking of something similar: the thoughts are great... but sound, what, OLD? These sound to me like thoughts of a very wise, yet quickly aging, person. Do I think a skydiver, or any other type of adventurer, explorer, self-challenger could have writen this? No. Though many parts repeat my own feelings word by word, the mood of the text is of someone tired of life (somewhat). Hard to imagine a seeker of new experiences, thrills behind these words. Or maybe I'm totally wrong. + I'm not saying it's bad or wrong, it's just kinda not my thing exactly. But this part is perfect:

Some years ago, the highest I could possibly get was 9th floor of a building where my granma used to live, and I had a lot of dreams where I jumped off that balcony and was falling (for a pretty long time) until I was very close to the ground, got scared and then, of course, I awoke. Never dreamt of falling with a parachute behind my back - parachutes were something from another world and not particularly exciting. These days I have skydiving dreams, but after some time I catch myself forcing these dreams onto my mind time and again, and it's no longer a cool dream then... And, like one of the peeps had said in this thread (what, two years ago?), it's frustrating when I get up in the morning and realize that all the skydiving gear and cool chicks were only in my dreams...

1) yes, skydiver 2) future owner of a black rig with some flaps in yellow :) or sumn like that 3) driver of a 15-year-old bimmer, a little embarassed by its size I could also add, for example, that I'm bored by games like baseball or golf. Hard to sum up everything in 3 lines.

Mine is actually not my nickname, nobody calls me "frodo". It's just that on my greencard I look a lot like the hobbit from the movie, with that semi-idiotic grin Plus I found that it's a good name to use in forums, since in most cases it's not "occupied" by anyone. (Yeah well, in a couple of cases it was, so I had to come up with some stupid numbers, like frodo1111)

Or, more precisely - uploaders. From CNN: Well... I guess since I'm not sharing anything, just downloading (yes I'm a very selfish netizen ), then I don't have to worry too much [:D]

Guy flew 3000mi to FL and was sold a stolen/wrecked car
Frodo replied to Frodo's topic in The Bonfire
This is a long story about a guy losing more than $10,000 because of a fraud + his mistake + bad luck. It can be a good lesson to you if you're going to buy a used car, or otherwise just willing to learn from others' mistakes. I hope I will do my humble share of "community service" by posting this. Maybe after reading the story, one of you will be saved from a similar mistake this guy made... So here's the deal. A guy flew 3,000 miles to Florida to buy a used 1989 BMW M3, which he saw in an internet ad. He talked to the seller over the phone, and being himself a mechanic, or something like that, the guy (buyer) asked the seller a lot of details that me and you would probably never even think about. Over the phone the car "looked" nice, though $10 grand for an M3 looked suspiciously cheap. To make long story short, he flew to FL and ultimately bought the car... but very soon found out what a huge trail of dirty records this car had after it. The above summary doesn't even come close to describing what the poor guy went through, so here are the links: Main story; Follow-up. (very long!) The story is fresh, it was posted about a week ago, and it's still being passionately discussed. The guy's biggest mistake, by his own admission, was not checking the CARFAX history of the vehicle. It had everything - been stolen, wrecked twice, its record "washed"... maan. The moral of the story... well, I guess: never ever ever buy a used car without CARFAX'ing its history. Plus, I'd say... maybe if you're buying a car from a private seller, then get a hold on his/her name, address, work, maybe even take some pictures of the seller. This way it'll be easier to defend your interests afterwards, in case of a fraud. Just my 0.02 to the story. -
Most likely an old 12-14 years BMW. 325 would be just enough I think (2.5 liters, V6, probably around 170 hp - not bad!) They're rear-wheel drive, that's a goodie. And with a mechanical tranny, of course.

Any autocrossers out there? I'm planning to start autocrossing in about 4-6 weeks. What would you recommend to read, learn, what events to attend, etc.? Actually, I want to try autocross not because I like it so much, but more as a means to learning better car handling. Want to know the cornering limits of the car, how does it get into a skid, how to get out of it, using gas, brakes, learning techniques like using emergency brake, etc etc. I'm planning to buy a couple of books from amazon but if you know good internet resources (I honestly did a good search, but found very little), it would be invaluable. Would appreciate any advice. Second, what's your opinion on static seatbelts? I believe (this is not my theory) they are actually safer than usual belts that we're all used to. Reason: during a collision, static seatbelt makes you decelerate at the same rate as the car, which is as good as you can get. But usual seatbelts aren't holding you for the first fraction of a second, thus then you decelerate quicker, literally hitting the belt and increasing chances of getting hurt. Plus, static belts distribute the force of the collision over more area of your body. Whatcha think? Third, how much can it cost to install Recaro's in your car? Don't think I'm into crap like placing "VTEC" or "type-R" stickers or whatever to make people think the car's cool while it's really not. But I believe good seats with strong lateral support might really help. Tanks!

Exactly! Have you seen this one? Scary, huh?

Actually I have already recorded a couple of CDs with stuff that to me seems related to skydiving in some way (some of them are just good mood-creators while driving to the DZ). Here are some: Moby - Porcelain Roxette - Wish I could fly Incubus - Drive Paul McCartney - Vanilla sky Cranberries - Salvation Dick Dale - Miserlou (an incredibly energetic and cool guitar play from the movie "Pulp Fiction") Sublime - Same in the end (why is it so popular that I have heard it in at least 2 skydiving videos?) Seal - Fly like an eagle Green Day - Desensitisized Natalie Imbruglia - Do you love Aerosmith - Dream on

You're definitely not the only one. I took a calculus class this Spring, and on the day before the final test, I knew/remembered very little of the material. So I wake up early the next day, the test is at 2pm; I came to the university at ~7am, and for 7 hours was just reading and reading and reading. All in all, when I saw my final grade, it was higher than I expected, which means I passed that exam really well. My point is that, strangely enough, the material of a whole course can be studied in a matter of hours, with proper motivation. Don't get frustrated, just forget whatever you're doing now and open that book and study. Good luck.

That was dumb...

The guy that writes texts at RealTV sucks bigtime. The text either explains what is obvious anyway, or has ridiculous, kidergarten-level mistakes, or both. The skydiving/BASE footage they use to show would be cool to watch if only: 1. they showed something other than screw-ups, and 2. they understood a bit in what they're showing.
