TSA & traveling with rigs as carry on
rjackson replied to rjackson's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I haven’t traveled with my rig as carry on baggage in a while. I just checked with the TSA website and the game looks the same even though they don’t have that nice pdf that you can print out to take with you. Is the TSA handling rig the same as they did a couple of years ago? Assuming of course that there are a few bad apples out there. --------------------------------------------- Randy -

Both are great DZ's. From Orlando Sebsatian is about 90 minutes. Lake Wales and Z-Hills are about an hour away. Both Lake Wales and Sebastian got beaten up from the Hurriances but not too bad to impact operations. Of the three I think z-hills has the most open landing area. Regardless you should have a good time at all three. --------------------------------------------- Randy

---- You want to put something fun in that. See if you can find a RX7 engine. The same guys that made the conversion plate for my 2.8l v6 made one of those. --------------------------------------------- Randy

Where did you get that????? --------------------------------------------- Randy

Nope that was a 2.8L V6 out of a Chevy S10 truck. --------------------------------------------- Randy

The V6 helped with that. Pulling a trailer up the Cajon pass in So Cal fully loaded was great. --------------------------------------------- Randy

Water cooled. Whats wrong with water cooled. I had a 74 VW bus with a Chevy V6 in the back. Now that made a great VW. Water cooled

What type of sitting do you prefer?
rjackson replied to Darius11's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have been in aircraft in all of those configurations. My first thought is for benches with side by side seating. Couple of reasons for this: - Sitting on the floor facing aft is ok if the plane isn't full. I'm 6'4" and the way we pack people into planes I dont get much space and it damm uncomfortable. I feel really sorry for the small girl that I end up sitting in front of with my J5 in her lap. The other thing I dont like about this configuration is the tradition of getting everyone up off the floor, four or five grand before jump run. With the bench configuration I dont have get up until right before having to move to the door. - Side by side you do get "you own space" even though your packed in. I do agree with the person that posted about the last couple seats getting real small. The other thing no one has mentioned here yet is cycle time. I have heard, but havent seen the data, that it is faster to load an aircraft in a bench configuration than with floor seating. DZO's chime in here. Its comfort thing for me --------------------------------------------- Randy -
Yep... moved out here to years ago from Cal. California drivers are professionals compared to these folks. This state could make a fortune if they installed those red light cameras. --------------------------------------------- Randy

I have done some six ways with Blind John. Its great to see that big smile on his face in free fall. He carries two radios, has a huge canopy and dumps at five grand. He started out sighted but lost his vision and has done lots of jumps (dont know how many) blind. Its a little wierd when someone brings his seeing eye dog out to meet him when he lands --------------------------------------------- Randy

Its all supply and demand. What will be a shame is if is not enough demand the tunnels on DZs will have to make up the short fall another way by cutting costs or raising prices in other areas. You can only raise demand so much by cutting prices. Their operating margins cant be that great. Hope they did their home work when they did the business models --------------------------------------------- Randy

Thanks for the update. I posted a question wondering how they held up (events & places to jump). Doesn't sound good. --------------------------------------------- Randy
