    Carry-on-rig

I've found it's also much quicker to NOT put the rig in a bag. I've flown nurmerous times with the rig over my shoulder and 99% of the time just walked through security, no questions or searches. However everytime I've put the rig in a bag I was made to take it out and had to get it examined and explosives tested. I know the TSA advises you to put it in a bag but in my experience that is just asking for a closer look at it as they cannot see what it is right away I guess.
  2. For me it's to finally learn to swoop by the end of the summer, meaning 270s.
  3. by the way I'm just drunk and philosphising.
  4. when you don't need it but never get it when you do need it?
  5. Or just buy some extra velcro and mate it on your pants when you don't want to wear the top.
  6. A friend of mine who has a two piece suit constantly wears it in the tunnel with no problems. He just sewed some velcro on the suit to velcro the top inside the pants to prevent it from flying up. Works great.
  7. Are there any other hotels to stay at besides the $199 a night Raddison? I heard that a lot of hotels were leveled by the storms and we're looking for some in the $50 price range. Also is camping allowed and are there showers too?
  8. 2 in 500+ jumps, both intentionals though. With more on the way.
  9. Anyone know if this is still on? There's nothing on their website. Heard they might not be doing it due to finances.
  10. So what's going on in February? Not counting Belize, would love to go but don't think I could afford it.
  11. Really, I tried getting directions on yahoo and they both seemed about 2 hours from Santa Fe. Do you have to call Skydive New Mexcio or are they always there on the weekend?
  12. Which drop zone do you recommend in New Mexico? I only know of two there, Skydive El Paso and Skydive New Mexico. I'm going to be in Santa Fe for the next month. Are they jumping this time of year? Where should I go?
  13. Hey I've been keeping the beer supplies up anyways..... Getting my tandem rating a few weeks ago and getting my static line rating two weeks ago

    ITS FRIDAY!!!!

Well of course no work, or responsiblitiles for two whole days! For me at least
  15. I didn't realize that. The dz I learned rents student rigs for just $5 a jump plus you pay the packer. I always thought the $25 a jump was a bit steep.
  16. Hey I thought this only applied to skydiving!
  17. So how does that work with communications between you and the tower? Or do you just fly where there are no communications?
  18. I've been thinking about taking a flying lesson for a while so when our videographer got his instructor license and started offering discovery flights I couldn't resist! It was great actually being in the pilot's seat and flying the plane after that many skydives. Amazing how the slights bank can make you nervous in the pilots seat but you won't even notice it in the back. I'm thinking I might have to keep taking lessons
  19. As far as using the students hips to move them up instead of their arms I'll have to try that. It would keep your hands farther away from them. But I'm definitely keeping the laterals tight. I watched a video of myself when I wasn't tightening them as much and you can really see the seperation between the student and myself and it was causing us to spin and potatoe chip. Saw another video when I was really tightening them down and it looks much clean and was much easier to fly. But that's just what seems to work for me.
  20. I didn't think of it that way about telling them what NOT to do. Maybe I won't be doing that anymore. I have't YET had any real problem students. Makes me what to take a few more skydivers up and have them go all crazy all me to see if I can handle it. Edited to add- or rather just to get some experience handling students from hell.
  21. A good point - but who's to say they are not going to grab your hands when you are using your arms to fly, all they have to do is reach back and grab you since your arms are behind theirs. I just make sure I tell my students never to grab anything behind them or me. If they need to hang on to something to grab their harness. Anyone else have thoughts on this?
  22. I just got my rating last month so bear with me. One idea that I found works for me after I get the drogue out is to grab the student under their arms and push them up and center them under you. I was surprised that you can actually move them up several inches even with all the straps tightened down as much as they'll go (the students even help me tighten them more than I could myself) It helps me to stay more stable and get more leg surface to fly with. It takes two seconds and works better than anything else I've been told to do. Just my two cents.
  23. I'm going to be down in Odessa for a couple weeks in early December working and was wondering if there are any dropzones nearby or withing a few hours? I'd love to get some jumping in on my day off!
  24. Make sure you can chase and stay with someone who is really backsliding and has an unstable fall rate. Common with new students. Jump couple times with someone doing this and practice. It really makes a difference when it comes time to actually do it. Just advice about what worked for me.
