The core problem with stopping skyride is to get the DZO's/Managers to stop using them. If all the DZO's would take a stand that its bad for the industry and that they wont loose any money in the end then the problem will go away, forget about the competition for once and look at the long term negative impact this will have on everyone. Our DZ has been skyride free since 2005 and I have had a lot less issues with unhappy customers from that outfit. I have tried to get my competitor to stop using them but some have this illusion that they will loose out if they refuse what little they get. Never mind these poor customers are driving through 2 states to give him or others their certificates. DZ's stop using them period and this scam will go away its that simple.

Celebrate 10 years with Skydive Kansas City
skydivekc replied to skydivekc's topic in Events & Places to Jump
We are proud to announce that Skydive Kansas City's 10th anniversary is fast approaching. On June 6th, 1998 we opened our doors and flew our very first load. SDKC has come a long way from our humble beginnings with one C-182 and a small gravel floor t-hangar without a door To celebrate we are hosting hot air balloon jumps on Friday, June 6th through Sunday, June 8th. The balloon will go to 5K and can hold 5-6 jumpers. Price for a balloon jump will be $105.00. Slots are still available for Friday PM, Sat AM, and Sun AM/PM. All slots are pre scheduled and arrangements must be made no later than Monday, May 12th. We have never had a balloon over this airport and if you have ever jumped here you know we have lots of wide open landing areas. To show our appreciation for your continued support over the years, we will have complimentary Pappa Murphy's pizza, cake and beer on Friday evening, and a cookout Saturday with all the fixings and frosty beverages provided, just bring something to throw on the grill. Bonfires on both nights. There have been numerous changes in the last two years especially since we have taken over management of the airport. We now have hot showers and accomodations available for those that wish to stay. We will be running both cessnas all three days and can do 8 ways on Friday. If anyone that has jumped with us in the past has any old video footage or or photos of the past ten years please bring this to share. It will be fun to watch the memories on the big screen and reminisce. We know many of you will be attending the Geoff Peggs Memorial boogie, and we are hoping to get out there ourselves and make a few caravan loads on Thurs. Again I want thankyou all for your support over the years, we are looking forward to another great season -

Karl, I'm looking forward to hanging out. Also several of my guys are looking forward to jumping the demo gear from Aerodyne! I will be picking you up at MCI thursday and we will start the event off early Friday. Just spoke with Dave Swartz from Skydive Radio and he is going to be our otter pilot for the event! Another company has jumped on board and we will have a free set of custom sunglasses by "Gatorz" in the raffle. A local KC brewing company is working on sponsoring us a few kegs of "The good stuff" as well

We have received confirmation that PD will be sending us up a few of the new Optimum reserves as well for you jumpers to try. If you are not aware of the new reserve PD offers it is made with a new low permeablility and low bulk fabric available only from PD. Also they are saying it flies very well being its a 7-cell design. Sizes range from 99-143 so its marketed for those tiny rigs. Also its certified under TSO C23-d. 28 days and counting

Paridise Skydives - Still flying the Porter?
skydivekc replied to Unstable's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I was just out at the Rigging course on Tue. at MRVS in KC. Jay and his staff were helping out in the course so that may be why they are out of the office in Iowa. Jay sold the porter last season and i hear its in Nevada flying sight seeing tours. Give Paul Eriksmoen a call i hear he is still flying that beech Airliner out of a 2000 ft strip 5 miles north of KCI airport!! -
Well my post was in reference to the majority of DZ's in operation and that is C-182 smaller DZ's. The dawn of the turbine and the new era of what jumpers come to expect "the big plane" has changed the way larger DZ's make a profit ie. tandem/AFF. If this industry continues on its current path we will see a clear line between mega DZ's with large turbines and small DZ's that operate a small fleet of 182's. The middle range King Air or Caravan DZ will be ousted by too much overhead and will either go back to what has been tried and true and that is somewhat old school methods otherwise they will dissolve!!

Well consider this. In the early 90's when this sport was at its peak in active members and 1st jump training was also at its peak. Static Line training was offered as a primary option. Why? It was and still is a very affordable way to skydive. Yes, many can afford the $200.00 tandem carnival ride that most DZ's including ours offer and Yes, AFF is the top of the line program for those that don't mind shelling out $300.00 or so for the first one. However with our program we see most get more out of a static line in the form of achievement and self pride from their accomplishment for half the price. Plus they can return and get in the air again for less than a couple cases of beer or a cheap night out on the town. This is why i feel the sport has shown a decline over the years. Most don't have the money to dump into it. At least not in the Midwest!!!
