You said it right. How racist is it for her to say "the shooting was racist"? Just because the stupid guy was Black? I'd assume they'd shoot the 'hillbilly' in the same situation. I'd also thought the term 'hillbilly' was supposed to be biased. I guess that's ok to use the term since color is not involved. Oh the hypocrisy of the armchair quarterback. Wait, is sports terms also biased? ... Driving is a one dimensional activity - a monkey can do it - being proud of your driving abilities is like being proud of being able to put on pants

I'm right in with Ira's comments mostly. However, you shoot until the person is down. This guy did everything wrong and chose to get shot. Worst thing in comments here is people saying "he should be fired" for 5 seconds of observations on multiple subjects. There was one comment like that here in the posting on this subject. What's with that? It happens all the time. Glad we have so many super experts on everything to make that call. ... Went through several girlfriends before the current wife. She's now a jumper (doesn't have the landing gene for some reason even though she's an excellent RW and passable sitflyer). Now the argument is who stays on the ground with the daughter. I win, it was my sport first. ... Jumping out of Planes other than 182s

My list is only about half as big as Winsor's. Cessnas - cozy and like coming home. People who jump Cessanas DO become better fast at RW, you have to because you have less altitude. And, they learn to spot - sadly missing nowadays. However, I'll always an Otter over anything else. (but the Helio Stallion was cool). ... Took 5 years out of the sport while in the Navy. Once back in, it took on a whole mew meaning for me. This is a very sad time. My condolences. I'm hoping the support will be huge - as it should be. Does anyone have an update on Todd's condition? Any details on the accident? I can't find more than one article. We know Todd in our area and the locals have known Roger forever so we're pretty interested in the whole story for a lot of reasons. Blue Skies ... No problems Nick. I'm camping at the DZ the entire week with a lot of team training hopefully. We'll make sure you get going and find people to jump with. If you have the full week, you might just want to visit as many of the DZs as you can. That's what I do when I travel. Blue Skies ... Three dropzones near Minneapolis. St. Cloud isn't that far from Baldwin. Hutch - More freeflyers, smoking in the hanger, King Air is fast but the door is small. Very nice people. Baldwin - All types of jumpers, can be clicky, better plane (Otter). Best relative workers in the area. Fast fallers. Good family and single types. Camping friendly. Owatonna - South of the cities. Club operation. Super friendly. Cessnas. I'm a fanatical anti-smoker so I just don't go to Hutch even though I like the people and the plane. I'm a member at Owatonna, and spend 90% of my jumps at Baldwin. Any drive is worth it depending on what you do more of (don't worry about distance, it's not a real factor for any of the 3 from St. Cloud). If you freefly and don't mind the smoke, Hutch is for you. If you want to do RW, or both RW and freefly, the Baldwin is the right place. Have fun. ... I learned something great in tunnel camp about slowing down. But only if you are using booties (like all good relative workers should). First, hugging the ball is not very effective. It still emphasizes the upper body and leaves you blind. If you are wearing booties, over half your surface area is from the hips down - why not take advantage of it??? From a regular mantis body position: Get your legs all the way out and turn your feet out, snap those booties taut - cup air at your hips, too. Get your arms out in front of you and turn them palm down (like the old time superman television show). Here's where the oldtimers are going to cry "foul". They are wrong. Since your legs are out, you would normally drive forward - counter this by lifting your head (and upper torso) to slip air forward past your face - this will counter your legs being out so you don't just go into a funny (superman-style) forward motion (the legs would normally drive you forward). It seems counter intuitive, but slipping air past your chin is more than compensated by all the lift you get with your leg/booties. Best way to learn this is to go up with someone as base and try each body part separately. First, just extend your arms forward - note the lift. Then, just cup the hips - note the lift. Then, extend your leg/booties back (straight) into the air and counter the forward motion by lifting the torso a little higher - note the BIG lift. Finally, mix and match these. Frankly, I was most effective sticking one leg straight back, dropping the other knee to help stabilize forward motion, extend arms forward and cupping shoulders - but still keeping my head/chin up high and spilling air. But that was because someone taught me the beach ball method about 15 years ago and it was hard to keep my torso as high as it needed to be. Both legs straight would have been better but I just didn't feel right slipping that much air with my upper body - my bias, I'm sure it would have helped. Last week I coached a 85 women with the build of a toothpick. She wasn't wearing weights. It was work, but I'm normally around 124 MPH on 4-way, this one was in the 90's. It works. Nothing like professional coaching. I learned a ton (NSL camp). Good luck - the beach ball is ok, but there's a better way. ... http://www.hawksuits.com/ Marsha goes above and beyond the call with her suits. reinforced knees, 3 types of materials to choose, special tailoring for appearance (men's suit design and womens style are different since they have different shapes). Gorgeous suits too. The booties 'rudder' very effectively.
