Intentional Cutaway Desired - Raven Micro 150 Concerns
moonglo replied to mdrejhon's topic in Safety and Training
I have 3 rides on a Raven-M loaded at 1.1-1.2. 1st and 3rd were nice stand up landings, the 2nd was a light wind day and it bowtied as I flared, my feet about 4' off the ground. My head hit the same time as my heels! (thanks luminous for my oxygn, I could have been much worse than dazed) My rigger lengthened the lower break lines about 6" after this so that when my adrenaline is pumping it'll be harder to flare too far. From what I've seen of others flying similar Raven-M's I'd suggest you prepare to plf and practice your flare if altitude allows until you get a chance to land yours and see how it behaves. From what I've seen of Micro Ravens (note: I've only flown the -M) they are not quite as prone to stall. Ideally if you can afford it, replacement with a PDR or Smart etc. may be the best option. -

I will be organizing wingsuit flocks for experienced jumpers, and first flight breifings and wingsuit demos will be available. Luminous will be doing "Bigways or Smaller", contact him if you would like to do bigway RW or learn the basics in a smaller group. For both groups there will be FREE BEER Saturday after jumping provided by Skydive Houston and Virgilio! Thank you!!

That's Skydive Houston to you non-locals... All 3 Texas PFI's will be there with their demo fleets and we will be organizing flocks for the more experienced wingsuit pilots!! First Flight Briefings will also be held for anyone with 200+ jumps wanting to try a wingsuit. (don't forget to bring a case of beer for us to drink!) With a bit of luck voodew1 and flyinbob will have their GS-1's finally and will let us ooh and ahhh over them -Jenn

I liek the Budget Rental Trucks moving safety tips (with cartoons) such as "#42 Don't pack dog and cat in the same box"

I'll try to talk luminous into going, sounds like fun!

Saw a guy at my DZ pack someone else's alti in his main and lost it on opening Taught a packing class once where the guy couldn't find his (flex-z) goggles at the end of the day. I opened the student rig to repack it and- you guessed it!-stuck halfway thru a crossport in the canopy were his slightly mangled goggles!

Egon, Piers, Bruno, and Krys Memorial Jump August 6
moonglo replied to Widgeon's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Anyone in Houston: I'll be organizing the memorial tracking dive at SDH that evening.... Blue Skies! Egon, Piers, Bruno and Krystal -
Born in CT, grew up in upstate NY. Since college the places I've lived for at least 10 weeks in order: Ithaca NY, Williamstown MA, London, Ogunquit ME, Fredonia NY, Aspen CO, Houston TX, Philadelphia PA, and back to Houston where I sit looking for my next job. Ah, the life of a theatre bum
-
Keep trying, and tell yourself you can! It took me more than 400 jumps (200 on my canopy) to be able to consistantly land it, and I still don't always land on my feet

I have a futon on a wooden platform (I Built!) and i love it. It's squishy/soft enough for comfort but solid enough that it doesn't aggravate my bad back!!

Skydive Spaceland--Looking for a jumping buddy
moonglo replied to frequencydrive's topic in The Bonfire
Come visit Skydive Houston sometime, we have many FF coaches available! -
Is that the one represented by the little airport sign with the arrow pointed towards the cemetery I always passed driving Rochester to Ithaca College? Man, I wish I'd found skydiving years earlier! If so I'll have to come visit next time I'm up north doing relative work

Sabre 2 openings and strategies for dealing with them
moonglo replied to darrenspooner's topic in Gear and Rigging
#3-That was my fix for old sabres that were hurting people- don't shove the nose. It eliminates the snivel....snivel...POP! that was hurting them by making the canopy inflate to push down the slider. When the nose was pushed too far in the snivel went on so long that the slider fell down in the skydiver's burble leaving the canopy to open (POP!) on it's own. Quarter the slider and make it do it's job!! With the nose out it opens briskly, but the slider does it's job and no one gets hurt. -
I jump Sabre 2 and have a hard opening in X jumps (on average)
moonglo replied to veter_'s topic in Safety and Training
350+ jumps on a sabre2-150 (2002) loaded at 1.2:1 and never a hard opening. 150+ jumps prior on sabre 170 (1992) and only hard opening was a premi while i was on my back my fault for jumping the borrowed rig with very loose boc. I also pack many sabres and sabre2s for others and have only had 1 complaint of a hard opening- on a sabre 2-230 i think(and the same guy has now blown up 2 sabre2's in less than 200 jumps, he's a bit fast!)
