That was great!

The spell checker on this site just told me I spelled "skydiver" wrong!

A small flux core if you're not doing anything thicker than 1/4" is way easy to use, some even run on 110. To the original poster: once after 5 minutes of tack welding in shorts (no A/C summertime in TX) while sitting on the floor next to my project I got some really impressive blisters on my knees. I always love the reactions I get talking welding or carpentry- "Your a girl welder and skydiver?"

Yep, done it twice

UPDATE: Phoenix-Fly is sending me demo Phantoms, an Acro, and a V-1 in assorted sizes for those of you who may be interested in trying them and lucky enough to fit in them!

HOLY Last Minute - Bat Man - Bling Babes Boogie!

Wouldn't count on Luminous either- y'all know how he feels about boogie fees when there's not going to be aircraft brought in for the event -
Yes, my best friend's husband had his credit ruined by his horrible parents stealing his SS# when he was only 2 years old! He's finally getting it all straightened out now at the age of 25

HOLY Last Minute - Bat Man - Bling Babes Boogie!
moonglo replied to turtlespeed's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Ok, I'm a bit confused, but that's cool. Does that mean they've changed their minds about wingsuits on loads with tandems? -
Yes, your ribs will crack at sufficient speed and it will leave an impressive bruise from shoulder to hip! I was stopped, rear-ended by a truck doing about 35-40 mph, 3 cracked ribs and chest pains for weeks when breathing... But better than breaking your face on the steering wheel or flying through the windshield. Edited to add: I always wear my safety belt, it just feels wrong to be in a vehicle without it.

Edited cuz things change -
Well if you got one that'll fit me I'll be at SSM one day this weekend but I don't want to launch something with a face full of nut sack either I think Susan finally ordered her Acro, so she might have it by Skyfest if she's really lucky. Is this Saturday or Sunday going to be better for flocking?

Why did you start skydiving?
moonglo replied to Chris-Ottawa's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had never really thought seriously about skydiving, but it was on my "things to do someday" list. I'd always dreamed of flying like a bird. A coworker told me she had about 300 jumps and offered to buy me my first tandem in exchange for me teaching her how to weld. Overcast Saturday morning, October 6, 2001 - I was first out the door on the first load after the clouds broke, had never seen a skydiver in freefall or a square parachute and had no idea what to expect! (but at least I'd been told to bring beer!) I landed and quickly bought my $99 second tandem, and jumped again the next morning. Saved up for a few months, got a raise and a cheaper apartment, and started AFF in January 2002. In 2005 I took that friend on her first wingsuit jump! -
Sorry for the hijack, but why not use an RSL for wingsuiting? I've seen 2 wingsuit malfunctions now where the jumper was saved by their RSL- they were spinning on their backs and the relative wind was blowing their wings over their handles, and the legwing was inflated adding to the spin! That was enough for me to consider adding an RSL or Skyhook to my next rig now that I started jumping a larger wingsuit (V-1). Good job NW Flyer!! Thanks for sharing and glad you're ok

So what did you do while the forums were "down" for repairs??
moonglo replied to SkydiveStMarys's topic in The Bonfire
Got ready to leave Houston in the morning -
Actually it's in the first flight waiver published by Phoenix-Fly at those rates. If you're demoing my suits a lot we'll work out a per day rental, but I did have to buy the demos and pay for my rating so I don't think its unreasonable. Some boogies/DZs have been known to cover my slot. I have been known to do free classes and demos, like for jumpers who have let me borrow their rig for months or who feed my cats while I'm out of town. I wish I made enough money that I could offer my services and wingsuits for free, but without part time packing I can't even afford to pay all my student loans and dentist bills- anyone wanna hire me and pay me 3x what I make now?

Yep, made 3 RW and 3 wingsuit jumps last weekend (see pics in wingsuit forum "best times" thread). The helmet still makes my jaw hurt a bit, but I had been way too long on the ground. Now I gotta make up for those lost weekends

I will be running first flight class ($30), organizing flocks and providing demo wingsuits ($10 per jump) at Aggieland June 17-18 for any jumpers interested and qualified. You must have a minimum of 200 jumps and be current to make a first wingsuit flight. Please contact me if you are interested so I can schedule the class once a day and have properly sized demo suits available. -Jenn PFI#21

That was some of the Best Times I've had in a while too! Can't wait til the next time we can all get together for some more fun tight flocks!!
-
So sorry to hear you're broken! Heal quick Shari!!

I know a couple of video guys who wear those while flying with heavy video equipment on their heads.

from http://www.glenphotos.com/summerjam/sj1.html "Just after I sat down from my trip from the stage I noticed one plane flying in circles overhead. Then I saw a parachute open and pink smoke swirling in the sky. I didn't know it at the time but this skydiver, Willard Smith, better known as "Smitty"** to his friends, 35 of Syracuse,N.Y., with the pink flare would die before landing. His friend quoits: "He had an "artillery simulator, which he had tucked into the pack opening band of his chest reserve. It is a dangerous explosive, packed with TNT. It went off prematurely, it was speculate, by accident, and it blew a hole in his chest". He is buried at Dewitt, N.Y., near Syracuse. He was a well known jumper in his time and to this day he's still talked about at sky diver's reunions and, reportly, "is still the legend he was when he was alive".** **From a college and skydiving friend of Smitty's." I spent many summers camping at Watkins Glen with my family, but never heard this one before today

They have built-in wing suits! Then they're gonna get in trouble for getting on loads with tandems!
-
Most places I've been its a minimum of 500 jumps and you still have to get the TM's and S&TA's ok.
