  1. Kris, oh Kris. Where's Kris? Somehow Kris earned the nome "Master D" at the DZ. I believe that is short for the Master o' Disaster. Has something to do with a string of rough landings I believe. Kris, where are you??? Missy the 225 lb. Meat Missile Sky World
  2. This thread is starting to remind me of someone trying to give themself a nickname. It just happens, man! Missy the 225 lb. Meat Missile Sky World
  3. I like to "subtly" congratulate our C-182 pilot on the outcome of his "hearings" as I load the newbies. "Yeah, the FAA is so full of sh1t." he says with a shrug. Sick, but fun. Missy the 225 lb. Meat Missile Sky World
  4. Good job, you did SOMETHING. You made a decision in a scary situation and saved yourself. I think for ME, 700-800 feet with a pinned head and violent spin the decision would have been a cutaway. For you it was not, and you saved your life, because YOU DID NOT PANIC! KUDOS, brother! Missy the 225 lb. Meat Missile Sky World
  5. Gear thieves piss me off! Thieves piss me off! Great, now I'm pissed off! Name, Name, Name!!! Missy the 225 lb. Meat Missile Sky World
  6. My $.02: Smooth, slow riser release will retain the most speed. A quick "let go" from a riser dive will cause rapid speed loss, and rapid decrease in altitude loss. Watch crew rotations sometime. When the guy at the top dives to the botom, if he dives right to his slot, he will release the front risers right from the dive, and his dive and forward speed just stop relative to the formation. Hence, for the longest, smoothest swoop, release slowly and smoothly, and plane out slowly. If you get too low, the snap release is a good way to "abort" and slow down quickly. Mike Sky World
  7. that is freakadelic! Mike Sky World
  8. Well, Dan, I am feeling pretty silly myself. I really didn't intend to get into a flame war with you. My point is simply that I think that the comraderie that is fostered by helping "kids" is well worth the lack of monetary gain. I believe the ISP is good for the sport. I also believe that most of the USPA leadership, just like anyone who posts to these forums, has good intentions. I also tend to believe, however, that large DZs, which will benefit from coaches freeing up their I's, have a lot of sway in USPA, and this is sometimes not good for everyone. Anyway, we're all skydivers, and I will always take a brother skydiver over a whuffo, so I apologze for sounding aggressive. Peace Out Mike Sky World
  9. I am one of those geeks who likes to check out peoples profiles, and it seems that there is a rating that does demand more of people with 800 + jumps who want to teach people and make some cash. It's called an AFF I. Why bother being a "Coach" if you want to brief, debrief, wearbriefs, teach a class, and maybe jump once in a while. Especially if the "bar" is too low. Get a real rating. Flame on, I've got 600 jumps and am merely an IAD I, but then again, I am one of those slackers that throws students for the free jumps, shoots video for the fun of it, and teaches low-timers for free (or beer). Funny, none of my "students", wait, I mean friends, has ever called me an asshole for that. Mike Sky World
  10. The Firefly webpage doesn't have a lot of selection. None to be more precise. It has said to check back later for a long time. Anybody got pics of their pants?? Mike Sky World
  11. FYI... I am currently working on a thesis in Organizational Leadership dealing with the feasibility/effectiveness of a canopy continuing education program implemented by USPA. USPA has thus far been very helpful, and hopefully someday something like this can be done by someone. I had to use USPA because the project has to deal with an "organization", and I am thinking about things like adding formal canopy courses to the B, C, and D license req.'s (kind of like water training). Anyway, wish me luck and give suggestions, I will gladly use them if I can work them into the weird parameters of this stinking thesis. I'll probably be posting some unscientific polls in the near future, so please help me out!!! Mike Sky World

    Age?

Wow. I was 18 when I started, then 23 when I started again. Now I'm damn near 28. Mike Sky World
  13. Damn right! Except the beer part. I'll drink anybody's beer! Mike Sky World
  14. Exactly, SUITS ARE FOR SPEED CONTROL, not for help learning. Learn to freefly naked, and then get a suit to match your fall rate to your skinnier/fatter buddies. If you use pants/baggy shirt as a crutch a) you learn less, and b) how will you learn transitions properly if you've got all bag on legs and no shirt, or vice-versa. Just my humble opinion. This from a guy who started "freeflying" on his 20th jump because the guy in "Dropzone" looked so cool corkscrewing through that industrial haze. Mike Sky World
  15. THanks oohnoooooo!!!! Mike Sky World
  16. Ahhh, the ISP. USPA has created another rating so experienced jumpers can be paid to do what we have done for fun for years. There is probably a jumper at your local DZ who is quite qualified to teach you many skills in a two-way drill dive settting, AND do it for some beer at the end of the day. Mike Sky World
  17. Well said Zennie!! That's why it's FREE flying. That's what sucks about giving anything a name, even if you name it "FREE," people still want to hang limits on it. DAMMIT, IT'S ALL FUN!!!!! Mike Sky World

    Tattoo

Hmmmm. I'll bite. Mike Sky World
  19. I love my 135. Toggle turns definitely eat altitude. I do tend to open in a diving right turn, but never enough to scare me. I guess that's why they dont BASE ellipticals. Mike Sky World
  20. Viking, my prayers are with you and the fam. Follow Clay's advice, getting to say everything to my mom before she died helped both of us immensely. Your skydiving family is here for you! Mike Sky World
  21. Buy a servicable but well-used rig for your first if you plan to downsize soon, then when you do, get that nice new XXXJS-4000, and you won't have any grass stains on it already. Just an idea. Mike Sky World
  22. It's me again! Please click the link below and answer my wingloading poll!! AND this time you CAN vote more than once if you have multiple canopies, and please leave me some comments!!! Mike Sky World

  25. Off the top of my head, it's basically a style set: 360 turn right or left, backloop, 360 turn opposite direction, frontloop. In a certain amount of time. OR you can do a 4-point 4-way which is usually much more entertaining! Mike Sky World
