JFTC - Inside Edition Coverage?
skykittykat replied to skykittykat's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Does anyone know when Inside Edition is going to show the coverage they took of JFTC? I understand that Inside Edition is going to show 1/3 of it's show covering JFTC. I watched it all last week and saw the labrador that swallowed a diamond ring (which was recovered) and the seals that were causing havoc by sitting on peoples' boats moored in SF Bay.... Liz -
Ian and I kidnapped Leigh this morning and took her to Eloy. Don't worry, she is fine after having a big feed and a few drinks round at Mahoney's and is currently ensconsed in the bunkhouse. A ransom..... - we will get back to you! Liz

Condolences Thread - Adrian Nicholas
skykittykat replied to USPA's topic in Blue Skies - In Memory Of
I never met Adrian, only saw him and that was in 2002 at the Brit Chicks Record. I know I will get flamed for saying what I am about to say: He turned up to offer his video/camera services for free for the first ever British Women's Record and I remember seeing him there on the dz looking shy and the next thing I knew he left - he had been kicked off the dz. I don't know the details, but I do remember thinking at the time, here was a guy whom I had heard so much about, had achieved a lot and had jumped the Da Vinci parachute and he was asked to leave! The Brit Chicks 2002 was all about setting a record and bringing girls (and guys) into the sport and to deny one of the best known skydivers of that time to participate sent out the wrong message. For me, at that time, being invited onto the record with my number of jumps and experience, seeing someon like Adrian was a huge thing. I didn't see (and still don't) what the issue was over him being there - I only saw a humble shit hot skydiver turning up to film the Brit Chicks for free and that he would take the time to do that. Adrian contributed soo much to the sport. -
Only 5 pink days to go!!! I hope I won't get into trouble with the greenies for a sort of advertising..., but if you can spare even a dollar, please donate. The web site is www.jumpforthecause.com To all the participants - let's start a list of all the dz.commers who are jumping so that we can meet up: skykittykat Chicks Rock!!! Liz

Dear Little Bro, To quote Goldie Lickin Chain, "your missus is a nutta"... Why oh why did you tie the knot with her - that song totally sums up your new wife and her behaviour to a T. Your loving Sis.

Prices are up on Airkix (SkyVenture UK) website for FS tunnel camps
skykittykat replied to UKFSChick's topic in Wind Tunnels
It does seems expensive when you convert into US$ (especially when it costs $600 per hour in the Eloy tunnel), but electricity prices, staff wages and VAT (boo, hiss) are higher in the UK - it's all relative. Upcoming Camp: To everyone out there, if you don't have any plans on going to Eloy, Perris or Orlando, or you can't afford a week off work, totally grab a slot on the Mark Kirkby/Gary Beyer camp in the UK. It is a bargain to get that level of coaching at that price!!! How often do world champs come to Blighty and hold camps of any kind? You never know, if their camp is successful, then we may see more of them holding future camps in the UK which can only be good for those skydivers who can't afford/take time off work to travel abroad. Liz -
I think it is going to be tough to predict who will win 4-way - it will basically come down to whichever team of the 3 top teams (Airspeed x2 and Fire) as to who is on top form on the day. I agree, I think it will only be won by a point or so. I wouldn't even like to hazard a guess, although I would like to see Velocity take the Gold. 8-way - Airspeed - there aren't any other teams out there doing the same amount of training in 8-way as Airspeed. 10 and 16 way - Play time and probably just a couple more golds for Airspeed to lug home! Liz

I take it that you are talking about the actual discipline rather than after the beer light goes on This would make a good poll - "who are the craziest skydivers once the beer light goes on" The Base jumpers would not be crazy at all as they have to stay sober so they can do their midnight flits to shush shush jump objects... Liz

A little birdie told me you were there - how did it go??? I am hopefully having another fix tomorrow night if there is time available. Can't jump as my reserve is being re-packed so the tunnel will have to do Liz

Skydivers who don't deserve respect.
skykittykat replied to Trae's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You forgot 3 types: Just Like School: You only hang around and recruit those like you, ie: we are too cool.... To join, you have to dress the same, act the same and have no personal opinions for yourself - only those of the ring leader/s. Know it All: You have done an Airspeed Camp and you know everything and will not listen to anyone else as your Type A personality will not allow you to. Wannabe: You think your goals and needs come before anyone else - so long as you can get a team together and you think you are going to do well, no matter what - if someone that gives 100% time, energy, learning and committment, you will get rid of them and replace them with somone "who in your opinion skydives better" who you can control, therefore ignoring the whole skydiving ethic so you can achieve that "glory". Going low on formation - stay or track away?
skykittykat replied to fmmobley's topic in Relative Work
Unfortunateley, I have been the person low on a formation and what I did was slow fall as much as possible, all the while being aware of the formation. As soon as the first wave tracked off, I tracked and tracked until pull time of 2,500ft and not higher. I have been on formations where people have gone low and they are buzzing around. The scariest was when I was in the base and a guy went low - I clocked him go low and kept an eye on him. I tracked off at my time and I saw him track back towards me (I am tracking towards the dz) and I had no idea of what he was doing - nor did he. Luckily, due to my awareness of people around me and the person who had gone low, helped out!!! Liz -
The footage shown by Fox 10 news this morning was awesome. I missed the last 45 min of the show, but everything I saw until 8.15 was fantastic. I'm sure that there will be a flood of bookings so all you local skydivers get booking!!! They covered everything - from freeflying, freestyle, RW, kids, whuffos, staff, and the presenters involved were obviously very excited about their experiences and it showed. For those that watched it or get to see it, I vote that Dennis is now called "Osama"!!!! Liz

Apologies if this has been posted b4 - I could not be arsed to read thru over 500 posts.... Fox 10 news in AZ are doing a live broadcast from the tunnel in Eloy in the morning from 6am til 10 am. Earlier today, all the news team came down and filmed footage and flew in the tunnel. For my view on the tunnel, go to the Wind Tunnel forum and: BEST TUNNEL IN THE WORLD" Liz
-
Wow, I just flew in the Eloy tunnel and I can say after 35 hours of tunnel time in the Orlando and Perris tunnels that Eloy's tunnel rocks!!! OK, the air is pretty thick, but there is NO turbulence anywhere in the chamber (good news for tail flyers). I cannot wait for my next fix!!!! Liz

If my British Airways flight leaves Heathrow on Sunday - fingers crossed I can be in the SVA tunnel on Monday... Is there a vid floating around of the ESPN footage? Liz

This terrorist attack is testament to the British Stifff Upper Lip. What happened yesterday was horrific, but the Brits have weathered through the Blitz and the IRA assaults. Unfortunately, the money that financed the IRA came from our "allies" (which is a subject for the Speakers Corner). My generation of Brits have grown up with the threat of terrorism and we will not be bowed by it. I really feel for the families that have lost their loved ones during this attack, just as much as I felt for all the families that lost loved ones during the attacks in Britain and Ireland. To combat terrorism is all down to education (probably another speakers corner discusion!) If everyone learns to live together in harmony without pushing their views and accepting differences in views, then there would be none of this tragedy. However, this is human nature - survival of the fittest rules. Liz

If you jump at Skydive Carolina or you can travel to do this camp, do.. You have got the 2 most experienced skydivers in the world holding this camp. Not only do they know the big way stuff, they know everything from packing, canopy control through to flying your body. They are both VERY approachable and will answer any questions asked. If you are not very experienced in big ways, then this is the camp to do. If I was not in Europe, I would sign up for this and I mostly live in Eloy and have done a lot of big ways. I have earned a slot on the Womens World Record - Jump for the Cause - this year, but my view is that you can never learn too much... Liz

Which team from the US will win the Malevsky meet
skykittykat replied to GQ_jumper's topic in Relative Work
Bring on the Nationals. The Malesvky Cup has shown what needs to be done. My 2 cents worth, Airspeed will take the 4-way and 8-way at Nationals and I do not say that to bitch at the other teams. This year's US Nationals will be the comp to watch!!!! Let the best team win... Liz -
I'm in Earls Court at the moment and if anyone needs a place to stay there are a few big bean bags to sleep on. PM me or phone 0207 370 5213 (business phone so we get a few nutters phoning anyway!). Liz

Sabre 135 w/ 25 jumps ~ 1.4 WL
skykittykat replied to Kimblair13's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
To follow on from other replies, get your dzo/Safety officer to talk to him/her. If that does not do anything to change the sitiuation, then you have done all you can do and he/she takes their place in the Dawin Awards/ If it makes you feel any better, I came across a guy who had downsized from a Stletto 150 to a Stiletto 120 and with a total of 200 jumps. I asked him if he could land it overses with higher elevation/thin air or if he would beable to land it in a back yard????? He said it didn't matter as he would not be jumping anywhere else. OK, fair point, but what if he had to take a down wind landing at the dz??? He was cocky and is still jumpin, but it is only a matter of time..... -

Are some of their members sick? If so, I hope they get better soon! I know Mr Bobo's arm was broken - has it healed properly yet? Liz -
Which team from the US will win the Malevsky meet
skykittykat replied to GQ_jumper's topic in Relative Work
After reading this whole thread and looking at the voting, it seems that a lot of people are undervaluating Velocity - remember they have Kirk Verner (World competitor/winner since 1992), Neal Houston (tenacious competitor with a lot of world experience and wins behind him), Dennis Rook and Andy Honigbaum (goals are to be 4 and 8way world champs in the same year - both world champs in 8 way last year). The whole team has an awesome vibe about it. My money is on Velocity followed by Odyssey and then Fire. 8-way - Airspeed. Bring on the Malesvky Cup. My 2 cents worth. Liz -
I heard that certain people would be flying in the tunnel today and looking at a 2 week opening date. Can anyone confirm this or is this another "get our hopes up" rumour???? Liz
