Just curious where or how you came upon that 1000% figure... ------- I pretty much made it up. From a BBC news report: According to Home Office figures, there were 59 firearms-related homicides in 2006-07 compared with 49 in the previous year. If you were to open a gun shop in every town and make firearms as readily available as they are in the US then it would not surprise me if the rates went up by 1000%. When you start with small numbers then moderate changes in figures create large statistical changes. Look at the figures above. 10 additional murders relate to a 20% increase. In the US 10 additional murders would represent a minuscule statistical variation. Why would this change happen? I wondered how long it would be before someone took this story and made it into their argument for no gun control. I still stand by the view that there would be substantially more (as in 1000+% increase) in gun crime in the UK if hand guns were legalised and sold openly as in the US. Of course the law abiding don't break the law. But if you slip from law abiding to criminal with easy access to weapons such as guns things get nastier quicker than without that access. I also disagree that it does 'nothing' to stop gun crime. If you can't get guns easily, which you can't in the UK (sure you can get them, as you can anything illegal if the will is strong enough), then there will be less of these incidents - as demonstrated by the UK gun crime rate versus the US gun crime rate. Therefore having gun control in the way we do must have some impact on gun crime. It won't be long before someone uses this to promote the UK having less gun control - the whole: If there had been concealed carry individuals around this would have been stopped earlier - argument. This seems to be the argument of someone who sits around at home day-dreaming about the time they get to save the day with their big shiny gun... RIP to the victims. CJP Gods don't kill people. Thanks for the input. I was aware that the Verso was higher level than the expert. I plan on jumping the suit regularly so leaning towards an Expert instead of an Indy but planning to but a decent number of jumps on the Access or Indy before I upgrade. I am signed up for a wingsuit course with Fly Your Body (Jean Loic-Albert) in Gap next month and I have started looking into wingsuits and talking to a number of wingsuiters in relation to purchasing my first suit. It appears to me that most of the wingsuit pilots I have spoken to have gone straight onto an 'experienced' suit like a GTI (as in the case of my CI) and I am interested to see that I have been reccommended the S-Fly Indy by the company running the course. This is a fairly new suit designed for beginners and before this they only did the Access and the Expert so the progression was - do the course on the Access then get an Expert. Am I right in assuming that these 'beginner' suits are filling a hole that wasn't necessarily there in the marketplace before. I a nervous about spending the money on one then finding that I outgrow it pretty fast. If I get 15 or so jumps on the course will the Expert or a similar suit be right? I am not a complete noob looking for approval to do something before it's the right time, I am honestly interested in how others here have progressed and whether they see a value in suits such as the Indy. If you can afford it buy a new one, use it for a while then either sell it and buy another or keep it and buy another. Yeah it'll get scuffed up but if you can afford it then no worries. The Conservatives have said that they will look at seat sizes to level the playing field a little - i.e. if one seat has 40,000 voters and another 110,000 voters then the votes of those in the larger seat are not 'worth' as much as the smaller ones. This is a step in the right direction. I agree that the Lib Dems could force whoever they decide to enter a coalition with, most likely Labour, into an agreement to change. This would inevitably result in a Labour Prime Minister that wasn't Gordon Brown. So we would end up with another unelected PM and a Government that does nothing for 5 years and is powerless against the possibility of a move to voting reform. That isn't acceptable to me,... I am not sure the two go hand-in-hand. I also think that a hung parliament is the worst situation we could end up in because no one would get anything done at all. It's hard enough for parties with control of the house to get changes through without the whip, can you not imagine the carnage of a budget put together by two parties with opposing views, laws and the firm hand that is required to get us out of recession just wouldn't happen and we would sink further into the shit. Obviously Labour are dead in the water, Gordon seems to be doing his best to achieve this. Whilst David Cameron just appears like someone doing an impression of David Cameron I think that, for me, the Tories are the only choice as I don't think the Lib Dems are ready to leave - they've never expected it so they wouldn't know how to do it - my dog used to chase squirrels - when he one day caught on he had no idea what to do with it and so he let it go. Whatever happens we need some form of change in the system but a hung parliament is not the way to achieve it - the two parties would never be able to agree on how to do it. I think the inference here was that the bag not being searched, even though checked in, is not a good thing. Bombs etc. don't necessarily need to be hand detonated. It's an interesting case too and has raised the spectre again of what level of defense you have. The guy who was beaten was tracked down and giving a serious beating but he had tied up the family. I think the guy in prisoned took the law into his own hands by delivering the type of beating he did but I wholeheartedly agree with the right to defned yourself inside your own home. It is hard to argue with an experienced CCI when you are new and not confident. I appreciate the comments that jumpers die when they don't follow the pattern but if the whole load lands one direction then that is the direction in which to land, IMHO. Nothing in your list of suggested items to ban was designed specifically as a tool to kill other people, swords were, and are still used by some to that end.
