Cheers for all the advice. I had actually had a Hornet recommended as a first canopy. I have just under fifty jumps at present (so my profile is not too far out) and am really starting to look so that I can get something organised for this summer. I have been jumping PD 210's and 190's (more recently) which is why I was looking at that sort of size. My landings have been mixed but the majority are good. I was also planning to test jump a Hornet from Thomas Sports prior to making any decision. I do not, however, want to rush into getting a canopy that is too small for me - I have already seen enough injuries and do not wish to add myself to the list. I am looking to possibly pick up a new rig from PISA (Hornet & Tempo in a Teardrop) and have been in discussions with them in South Africa. They recommended going to one of their UK dealers (Thomas Sports) instead of buying it direct from them. Obviously that puts another link in the chain. My question is, therefore - what are the advantages of both options? Has anyone bought a full rig from PISA direct and if so did they get stung on tax bringing it back into the UK (or US)? Will it be cheaper to buy direct? I am hooking up with the guy from Thomas Sports at the BPA AGM in two weeks and would like to have as much info as possible prior to then. Check stuff out on the web - there are loads of sites dedicated to ways around not getting the fine such as www.paynofine.com I agree that whilst if you do the crime you must do the time but I disagree with what we call stealth tax in the UK (grabbing cash from camera fines whilst not attempting to make roads safer). That is pretty good going - I was jumping a 288 on my training and am now on a 190 or 210 so I think I would have been a little confused as to what to buy that early on. At my home DZ it's 20 pounds to hire a rig for the day which isn't bad and I reckon I can pick one up for around 3K so I am in no hurry - I obviously want to make the right choice... Might be a good idea to hook up. I was going to ask Robin Durie for some advice but he is in NZ on one of his many travels at the moment. As I would probably only be on this rig for a year or so before a potential downsize the resale value is important. Will let you know the next time I am down at Nethers... Thanks for your help. Hey All. I am looking at purchasing a rig and have seen a good deal on a complete Vortex rig with a ZP-EXE canopy. I can't find any info out on this canopy although the salesperson told me it was a lot like a Sabre. Anyone know anything and be able to give me some advice. I had been considering a Sabre 2 - how similar is it? Also the rig is £2999.99 for complete package including Cypres. How does this compare to prices in the states and other countries. Would a crafty trip abroad for a rig benefit me much. I have 40 odd jumps and am looking for a 210 or 185 (not sure which yet)... Looking forward to some help. CJP Gods don't kill people.
