This is where we differ 100%. I do not believe the unborn have a right to life, or a right to be born. I 100% believe that a woman has the right to dictate birth, which essentially dictates life.. In order for the unborn to live, the woman has to ALLOW it with her body. She has to allow the fetus to carry to term, then she allows birth. I personally believe that a woman has the right to dictate whether or not she carries to term, and whether or not she gives birth. I believe the woman ultimately has the say on life. Then you and I will have to disagree because I value life more than you I guess. And then personal responsibility comes into play NOTE: I know there are situations where abortion is viable choice but, I do NOT feel it should be a choice for chosen behavior. Don’t want a baby? Don’t behave like you do Sex is fun, enjoyable, and I certainly do not believe that wanting to get laid is acting as if I want a baby. Wanting to enjoy another human's body sexually does not equal wanting a baby. Skydiver Survivor; Battling Breast Cancer one jump at a time. Adoption is not a PREGNANCY decision, it is a parenting decision. One chooses to place a BORN child with an adoptive family. I did not wish to give birth, therefore, adoption would not have been an option. Adoption is not a viable replacement for abortion, logically speaking. If one simply does not wish to parent, but does not mind remaining pregnant, it is perfectly logical. Skydiver Survivor; Battling Breast Cancer one jump at a time. But this then comes with responsibility. What is your stance on the scenario where the woman "decides" to carry and delivery and keep the child - all decisions 100% hers..... But the father doesn't want it? Would you then require him to support? This is where it becomes tricky. I do not believe that ETHICALLY, a man should be forced to support a baby he never wanted. With this being said, I have NEVER had a condom break, EVER. I have had a lot of protected sex too, with a lot of partners. I only became pregnant with my husband, sans condom, when I did not take my pill correctly. I believe that "The condom broke" is often a shortened way to say "We forgot, we are embarrassed, so let us say we used one". Right now, a man must pay up. I am conflicted about this issue. I can tell you that IF I was a guy, I would wrap it up regardless of what the girl says or does. If one does not really want a baby, wrap it up and pull it out and ejaculate someplace more fun ;) Again, I have conflicts. I know PLENTY of woman that ooops guys all of the time. I dont know Wendy You know where I stand and my conflicts as I have taken the time to tell you that I believe in the babies right to live. That abortions should not be used just to get those who practice loose bad behavior off the hook I also do not think the state has a right to outright ban abortion I also do not think the state or the fed should fund them But my purpose was different here in this thread Abortion, in the context of this thread is NOT about hc To say that is all it is diminishes life as a whole because the unborn and children are the most protected we have in our society. At least that is what many say it should be but to argue it is a hc issue takes the supporter off the hook because after all , it is just a medical procedure Really? that is all it is? Sorry, I dont feet that is the way this issue should be framed. Those aborted mean more than that Those that support this have to take account for their position But they dont want to WOW, loose, bad behavior? I am sorry, but you really have a stereotypical view of women whom choose abortion. I am not surprised, because our media perpetuates this. Women forget their BC pills sometimes, this does not make them loose or nasty, it makes them HUMAN. Most of these women will have their period, and they do not look back... You would never know they had a mishap. The woman walking into the clinic, she had a mishap but she was not so lucky. Married, wealthy, happy, MOTHERS choose abortion. As a Nurse in an abortion clinic, I worked with countless women that were not loose, or the stereotype you seem to believe exists. I am married. I never want children, and I had an abortion because I became pregnant. I am not an anomaly, I am not LOOSE or nasty. I f$%^ up my BC pill, yup, I f@#$% up. I am human, I am imperfect. I was not LUCKY, I did not see my period that month like many other women would. YES, I am glad I got "off the hook". I am glad that my BC muck up did not force me into carrying a pregnancy to term, OR motherhood. Skydiver Survivor; Battling Breast Cancer one jump at a time. Abortion care IS health care. Just as any other procedure performed to a pregnant woman would be considered health care, abortion is as well. It does not matter that an end result is the destruction of the fetus, the woman is still receiving health care services. There can be any number of services a pregnant woman needs that are potentially harmful, or of absolute harm, to the existence of a pregnancy. When a woman chooses that she does not wish for care to given for the health or well being of the fetus, we follow her wishes. We also follow the wishes of a woman that refuses to save herself during a dangerous pregnancy. Skydiver Survivor; Battling Breast Cancer one jump at a time. There is a reason to perform an U/S before an abortion at ANY gestation, especially 6 weeks. We cannot 100% know gestation until an ultrasound is performed, we are not going to take a woman's word for it. We also have to rule out ectopic, molar, or partial molar pregnancy. These would require follow up. I worked in the abortion services field too, as a Nurse, and U/S were a typical part of the preoperative exam. They occurred before every abortion as part of the GYN exam. The problem many pro lifers have with these U/S exams is that we do not FORCE women to view them. They want us to. YAY! This may become TMI, so warning. Before an abortion an ultrasound is ALWAYS performed, we just do not force women to look at it against their will. It is part of the standard pre op exam. I worked for an abortion provider in my past, too. I had an abortion, and looking at the u/s did nothing for me emotionally. Skydiver Survivor; Battling Breast Cancer one jump at a time. Nun gives birth, sisters express "surprise"
FreefallingCari replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
I suspect it was the father who came again. The priest's remark now makes sense. "Sex? Nun for me, thanks!" Q: How do you get a nun pregnanat? A: Dress her like an altar boy. Now Winsor, must we review sex ed for you? You CANNOT get pregnant from buttsecks. Skydiver Survivor; Battling Breast Cancer one jump at a time. Correct. When I did a clinical rotation in the ER, I saw women come in for pregnancy tests, people come in for sniffles or allergies without respiratory distress, even STD testing. The county health department offers it for 100% free, but you can only come in during business hours. These people will also never pay an ER bill, so it is essentially "free".(for them)) I believe we should have the right to turn away people. Obviously we should quickly assess for resp distress, as well as other emergencies, but a pregnancy test is not ER worthy. Allergies and sniffles are not ER worthy. Making the system more efficient would not get as many votes, because both sides have such extreme views and unwillingness to compromise. 1000% true. Another issue I see is that overhauling the system would require uncomfortable choices to be made, and for people to finally face the reality that LIVING costs money. People want to have as many children as they want to have, they want to have the Iphones, material possessions, etc.. AND they want someone else to pay if their choices cost them too much money. People need to get real, and use logic. You need to plan your lifestyle carefully, only having as many children as you can provide for, and not having "stuff" one cannot afford. This is logical, but not cushy and comfortable to talk about. Skydiver Survivor; Battling Breast Cancer one jump at a time. ++ in addition - "If they feel they cannot provide, only a government can, it pushes the spiral further downward. IMHO of course" different religions, but dependency = dependency I agree. I have always believed in a hand up, not a handout. Safety NET, not hammock. My biggest area of controversy is that I personally believe that if one cannot afford to have children, then one should not have them. I do not believe that it is cruel or unethical for people to consider their ability to provide BEFORE they have children. I have seen people place more consideration in their ability to afford a CAR, than their financial provision for children. Obviously sometimes people fall on hard times, hardworking, even previously wealthy people, fall from their heights of success. This is why I believe in a safety net, but it is not a hammock. This is also why I CRINGE at the thought that because I am CHOOSING to wait until 36-38 to have children, when my house will be paid off, I am somehow a terrible person. I am 32 now. So I am terrible for wanting debt freedom before children? My mortgage is my only debt. I want it *gone* though. I see RAISING children as a responsibility, not a basic human right. I believe that abortion, adoption, and birth control are all 100% acceptable. Skydiver Survivor; Battling Breast Cancer one jump at a time. I am all for freedom of religion, and the concept of "live and let live". I have a strong negative opinion on organized religion, specifically con artist types that prey on people. People need to be encouraged to become more self sufficient, to feel a sense of pride in their ability to provide. If they feel they cannot provide, only a deity can, it pushes the spiral further downward. IMHO of course. Skydiver Survivor; Battling Breast Cancer one jump at a time. Sadly, they are likely quite serious. I cannot tell you how many extremely irrational religious people I know, it's pretty unsettling.. Anyhow, they have 4-5-6 kids, no jobs, constant utilities being shut off, etc, and "God will provide". I am a deist, however, I believe that 'god' provides common sense. Perhaps they need a better god? Skydiver Survivor; Battling Breast Cancer one jump at a time. DX June 19th 2014 I have been jumping since October 5th 2013. https://pinkribbonskydiver.wordpress.com/ -

Hi Wolfriverjoe! I am a Nurse with a lot of different experiences, likely similar to Jclalor. We tend to have a variety of experiences. I worked in Long term care for 5 years, I worked with patients on vents, with trachs, PICCs, tube feeders, etc.. I worked Baylor, which means I was the weekender. Back then you could work every weekend, two 12's, and be paid for 32 hours as a bonus. I also have experience with clients post operation. Right now I do 'unusual nursing'. I inject botox and perform laser skin rejuvenation services, such as laser hair removal, laser skin resurfacing, medical grade chemical peels, etc. MUCH CUSHIER. TPN post tonsillectomy, along with her other surgeries, is not common. Even though the extent of her surgery was fairly impressive, it did necessarily warrant TPN. It did warrant a special diet, likely a liquid diet, or even NPO for a period of time. She was obese, so it could have been medical decision that she would be able to thrive NPO with IV fluids for a short time post-op. Some families see NPO as starving their family member, and I am no stranger to families feeding post op patients pizza and cheeseburgers. Skydiver Survivor; Battling Breast Cancer one jump at a time. When I was a kid I drank my dad's vodka and sprite mixture when he went to the bathroom. I wanted to taste it, it was good, so I drank a drink. Needless to say, I likely had a good night's sleep. My dad and mom had a laugh, told me that was for adults, and that was it. I think weed should be legal. I have never, and will never smoke it, but I am furious that people are locked up for several years over a fucking plant. What if some nutter went and decided to smoke some 4 leaf clovers and felt a "high", will we ban that too?! They let child molesters walk away due to overcrowding, yet keep the weed smokers in jail for the "good of society". This appalls me. I believe in being a good citizen by acting safely while using drugs and alcohol. Have a designated driver, do not drive if you are intoxicated, etc.. Actually, her being dead would allow for an autopsy. At this time any signs of foul play, or negligence, may be long gone. As a Nurse, I have seen families try to act as "Nurse" for their loved ones. Suctioning is not rocket science, but it takes some critical thinking and knowledge of what one is doing. I read that too, that family acted in some ways that may have caused harm. This is a sad situation. Skydiver Survivor; Battling Breast Cancer one jump at a time. DX June 19th 2014 I have been jumping since October 5th 2013. https://pinkribbonskydiver.wordpress.com/ -

Please do not hate your profession. People will need representation for something, be it a home buyer, or other needs, at some point in their lives. I thankful to have an awesome real estate attorney working on my new home, and back 10 years ago I was thankful to have someone on my side during a NASTY divorce. ALL professions can have greed, or individuals that practice their craft without ethics or values for their fellow humans. Unfortunately, this situation can easily be turned into a GOLD MINE. Someone will take it on, and whether or not they are truly in it for the money is between them and their conscience. Skydiver Survivor; Battling Breast Cancer one jump at a time.
