  5. IMHO, if the guy going for the license was fibbing on his log book, it'll catch up to him someday when he gets cut from a big way (or worse, get hurt) because he'd padded his skills in a log book. doesn't sound that way tho. as for the DZO, they don't see every jump everyone makes and can't verify everything that happens. maybe he just hasn't seen this particular jumper excel, and was in a little disbelief. Jumps are signed by a witness, so if the jumper ought to log the right stuff, the signer ought to be able and verify what he wrote, and the DZO ought to believe what he sees in a log book. but that's not always the case... sbb
  6. it all depends on the zip code.
  7. true, but small, one cessna dz's might not have any other means available to progress students. AFF you need at least 2 AFF I's there to get one student in the air. sometimes that's not feasable. yeah I agree AFF is the superior method of instruction, although we all end up at roughly the same point at about the A license. One advantage I think S/L has over AFF is the ability to open or get out out low. I see a lot turbine jumpers think 4k as a hop n pop. that's a 10 second delay to me. sbb-oh and tandems who continue with s/l do seem to do better than only s/l jumpers, partly because they have that awesome feeling of freefall to use as a goal.
  8. what does your dz use for fjc training videos aids? Did anyone produce their own specifically for their program and how did you go about doing it? sbb

  15. I remember chasing a tandem out of field one day about 2 years ago and on the walk back the dz, I found a alti-II mounted on a red chest mount lying in the dirt. Saw the triangle shape of the mount and was like WTF!! on a similiar note. about 2 months ago, a guy jumped a new-to-him tri 160 in high winds and cut it away because it broke a line(I would'a kept it myself). Never did find it until last week. AFTER the cornfields had been harvested. according the finder, other than some dirt and probably wear and tear from sitting in the sun, it was ok, even after the farm equipment probably rolled over it. I think the guy who tried to jump it, bought it. duh! It'll be interesting to see what they do with it....

  23. wasn't there to see it but did see the video of the aftermath. Young jumper was the last to land on a very nice day. Wasn't sure if he could turn into the wind in time, so he flew some 100yds or so WAY over the pea pit and made no attempt to turn. He had plenty of time, just inexperienced. flew himself right into a very tall thicket of bushes. He fell through and canopy was caught on top. Tried to get out but was getting severly poked from the needles so he took a seat, while his cousin, who put him out ran over and said 'are you ok...I gotta run.' and left. I guess the wife was calling. The rest of the gang had to use chain saws to extract him. You can barely see him in the video it was so thick. He was ok, gear was ok, ego prolly not so ok. someone constructed a memorial and mounted it in cement for path they cut out. thicket(his nickname) found a old chainsaw and painted it gold and mounted in on plaque. my own plf story is short. the only time I jumped a round. saved my ass. sbb
  24. It was all just a show at CF. If I had the dough, I'd come down and do 4way video for you guys for that boogie....maybe someday tho.
